Dear readers,
I wanted to share this glorious shot of the New York City skyline I took over Memorial Day Weekend from the private rooftop patio of the Gansevoort Hotel. I shared a delicious brunch there on Sunday morning with a small gathering of some of my favorite people — after celebrating the marriage of two of my closest friends the night before!
This week I’m focused on helping my subscribers to Raise Their Rates and Raise Their Standards! Don’t miss my latest no-cost video training I just made available here: www.HowToRaiseYourRates.com (and there’s a killer prize to win there too!)
Plus: Be sure to read my article below … And let me know what you think!

Secret 7 Continued: Environment and Action

Uplevel Your Business For a few weeks I’ve been encouraging you to change your intellectual, physical and social environments so that they reflect back to you where it is you want to go.
Today, I’m urging you to do the same around your business.
Raise Your Standard People sometimes think I’m joking when I say, “The front of the plane, the back of the car,” but I’m serious. You should travel first class.
In your business, you have to raise your standard. You have to keep reaching forward or you’ll stagnate and fall back.
Look around your office. Does it inspire you? Is it opulent? Is your desk beautiful and functional? If you like flowers, is there a vase of them nearby? Is your chair comfortable? Your computer top-of-the-line? Is there art on your walls? Is the floor clean and uncluttered? Do you have a good filing system?
If not, your office environment is holding you back. You need to start upgrading right away.
Raise Your Rates Some people will be all-too-happy to run out and buy a new desk, but you can’t just increase your spending. You have to raise your standard on the revenue side as well.
That means raising your rates or your prices.
I have met absolutely brilliant people who don’t believe they’re worthy of charging a premium for their services, and so they don’t.
Some of these people would love to live a great lifestyle and have done so by taking on all types of debt.
Yet, they still won’t demand a premium for the quality they provide.
As long as they’re reluctant to receive at least the equivalent of what they’re giving, their business — and their life — will reflect impoverishment.
You Are Worthy I want you to raise your standard across the board. Don’t wait until you get “there.” Do it everywhere in your life until it becomes comfortable.
Treat yourself like a king or queen.
When you start walking in those big shoes, you subconsciously set yourself up to go right to the top.
And you can get to the top very quickly. It doesn’t have to take a long time.
I’m not saying that raising your rates will be easy. It may be very difficult.
Do it anyway.
Give yourself the experience of feeling well paid.
If you do, you’ll be absolutely amazed at the transformation that occurs in your life.
Keep Going Raise your rates, beautify your office, and then keep expanding.
Up-leveling is a continuous reaching for a higher vision of yourself, catching up to it, and then reaching higher again.
And in the process you become the full expression of who you’re meant to be.

“I have met absolutely brilliant people who don’t believe they’re worthy of charging a premium for their services, and so they don’t.”
Looking at my experiences of the past 4 years, I think it’s possible some of us subconsciously identify with clients who can’t meet those higher rates – ie, we think how bad it would be to desperately want a service ourselves, and yet not be able to afford it! What an insidious way of attracting things we don’t want… it creates our very own personal glass ceiling, reinforcing the state of “cannot have”-ness.
And it doesn’t change the consciousness or income of the “poor” (in every sense of the word) people we’re identifying with!
Of course it is insidious Miss C,because it is confirming the lack thinking that protrudes the subconscious. If people want to give away their services, then by all means do so. However, just now that doing that serves no one. I would recommend looking where in your life you are allowing those thoughts to dictate your actions and see what shifts can be made around them.
This is interesting David since as no matter what I charge, I am unable to get a paying client – so much so, I have decided to put off pursing my business. I’ve struggled for 7 years and its heartbreaking. I understand what you are saying, however, how am I expected to change things around me when I lack the resources to do so? I’m in a catch 22 situation. I charge higher fees, no one hires me because its too much. I lower my fees and people think I’m no good so still don’t hire me.
You are unable to get the clients Valerie because you don’t want them bad enough. The Laws work all the time, and you can’t allow the lack of resources stop you. What resources do you need? A telephone, someone to call, and a program to sell. Take a close look at your sense of urgency and attack the situation. Putting your business on hold sends the message that you are giving in and allowing worry, fear and doubt to rule your life; when potentially you could be three feet from gold.
Humm…Yes, actually, you are right. It’s been so long since I have worked with anyone my confidence is non existent as I have forgotten pretty much all I’ve learnt and how to do it (although I read a lot and attend seminars often). I don’t feel I have the ability to help anyone any more which affects my ability to sell my program(s).
Thanks David!
Why do you think that is Valerie?
Erm…If someone asks me something and I don’t know the answer, I’ll look stupid. They would have come to me for answers and I don’t know what the answer is! Also, people do their own research and tell me things that I don’t even know about. What’s the point paying me?
I love the way you talk about money and spirit as naturally connected in a way that rings true to me. I thank you for your encouragement to value myself and reward myself.
For me to arrange my cluttered physical space is an overwhelming challenge which I have not overcome well ever. While reviewing your post I get flashes of the feeling that I can do it naturally. Soon. As I value myself and practice raising my prices.
Just caught up with this Blog post. Brilliant, inspired reading. Few owies as you hit the spot a couple of times. I know what I need to do and just need to do it. I have started putting the prices up on my website and amazingly enough, not one client has even noticed! They seem happy to pay the increase. This has given me a lot more confidence.
Now to tackle my small cluttered office!
Thanks David
I have always been putting the artwork that I do “on hold” as well, because I always felt like, I’m not good enough, I have to wait until I’m good enough before I can show any of my work to people. Now after reading these posts here I’ve decided that I will take samples of what I do and post them on the internet, even if they are not as good as I want them to be and could do with a LOT of improvement. Maybe there might even be someone out there who likes it just the way it is right now! And in the meantime keep improving and every time I have something better, I will take down the old samples and put up new samples.
