Distracted and afraid? How to build your business anyway

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I know what I have to do to grow my business and fulfill my purpose, but every time I get the courage to pick up the phone and reach out to someone, fear stops me and I end up allowing myself to get distracted. I don’t know what to do to overcome this. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Neagle Code Answer

First, let’s bring awareness to what’s really happening here.

Your subconscious mind does not understand time, and therefore does not see your lack of sales in this moment as a potential major catastrophe for your business in the near future. It only sees that you’re safe right where you are, and that’s exactly where it wants you to stay.

Every time you start to make a move outside of that paradigm, you will feel fear. You’ll begin to have thoughts of:

• What if they think I’m salesy?
• What if they think I’m pushy?
• What if I make a mistake and say the wrong thing?
• What if they reject me or hang up on me?
• What if I’m bothering them?

And you stop.

You don’t make the call or have the conversation, and you stay exactly where you are.

I come from a place of bringing truth into a person's life, so consider this:

Your purpose has safety automatically built into it.

Why would that be?

That means that you would have to be safe doing it, or there would be no purpose in more life, it’s one and the same.

So this fear that you feel is actually a lie designed to keep you small and safe.

And here’s the REAL kicker:

The fear you feel is ACTUALLY POINTING YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

If you’re experiencing fear when you’re looking at moving towards your purpose, it is because that is in direct conflict with what you’ve been programmed with; the false need for safety.

Use your ability to choose.

Pick up that phone.

Have that conversation.

Step more fully into your purpose, and as you do this, the fear will subside.

After all, it’s only a lie…

How can I focus when the “fear of failure” overwhelms me?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Marjorie H.

Neagle Code Question

I just walked away from my corporate job of 17 years and for the last 6 months or so I have been trying to “find myself”. I've been doing a lot of soul searching and a lot of journal writing, and I come up with great ideas. I start working on them, and then I begin to experience this overwhelming fear of failure and I jump to something else. I know I need to focus on one thing, but I'm afraid if I spend too much time on the wrong thing, I could fail and have wasted all that time and possibly be out of time and money. I really hated my corporate job, but at least someone was always telling me what to do. Do you have any suggestions on how to navigate this?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Marjorie, and congrats on the beginning of the rest of your life!

The key thing to understand here is that it is your FEAR OF FAILURE that is causing you to stop and find something else.

Let me remind you of something really important.

FEAR IS A LIE. And it is not from Spirit.

Fear is not a message to you from Source that’s trying to redirect you or help you course correct. It is from your ego.

And your ego has one goal in mind: to stop you from growing.

You see your ego views growth as a huge threat, and it will go to every length possible to keep you “safe”.

Instead of allowing fear to direct your decisions, I recommend using the following four questions:

1) Is this something I want to be, do or have?
2) Is being, doing or having this taking me closer to my goal? (You want a yes here)
3) Is being, doing or having this in alignment with Universal Law (more life to all)?
4) Does being, doing or having this violate the rights of others (does it take away someone else’s right to choose)?

The determining factor in using these questions is that you must answer yes to the first three questions, and no to the fourth.

When experiencing indecision, using the four questions above will help you see clearly which direction to take without letting fear take the reins in your life.

Once you make a solid decision using those four questions, then it’s time to exercise both belief and faith. This is where most people get tripped up and they stop.

I’m going to be facilitating a 3-day seminar on this exact topic July 26th-28th. I highly suggest you join me at Manifest Success Seminar and gain both the awareness and the confidence you need to step into your new life. Click here for all the details: www.davidneagleseminars.com

Don’t hesitate to make this decision…there are fewer that 20 seats left!

Why “the fear of success” is a myth

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Amanda B.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I recently heard you say that a fear of success is not real. And yet, I think I have a fear of success. I have every opportunity to have a thriving business, but when I get close to thriving, I put the brakes on. Can you explain to me how this is NOT the fear of success, because it sure feels like it.
 Thanks!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Amanda,

First, I want to be clear. What you are dealing with is not the fear of success.

No one is afraid of success. You succeed in different areas of your life everyday.

What you are struggling with is the fear of what you believe you will need to leave behind in order to achieve success.

You put the brakes on because:

A) You’re worried about what people are going to think of you if you make a mistake

B) You’re worried about what people will think of you if you do achieve success

C) You’re worried about who you will need to leave behind if you seek your own success

D) You’re worried about what you will have to give up to accept success into your life

You see, it’s never about the fear of success, it’s about the stories you have around success.

Check in with yourself right now.

Ask yourself the following questions:

1) Who will I need to walk away from to be successful?

2) What risks will I need to take that may threaten my fear of what people may think of me?

3) What things will I need to walk away from that will no longer support my success?

4) Am I willing to do whatever it takes for my own success?

These questions will help you see how your sub-conscious mind is getting in your way of standing confident in your decision-making.

As soon as you shine the light of the truth on this, you’ll be able to see things in a whole new way!

Why fear is a powerful cue for growth

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Cindy L.

Neagle Code Question

Hello David,

I am at a point of stepping forward within my work as a therapist, and have already been invited to present at a couple of conferences, which offer great networking opportunities. What I have noticed with this clarity of how to move forward, is my utter terror about presenting and promoting myself and what I do, with clear intention to step up and move forward……WHY?

Thank you for any help with this.

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Cindy and thanks for your question!

The answer to your question is both simple and complicated…let me explain.

The primary reason you are feeling terror is because your sub-conscious mind views any growth as risk.

You see, your sub-conscious mind is your feeling mind and it uses those feelings to attempt t keep you exactly where you are.

WHY?

Because keeping you where you are means that you are “safe”.

What you’re about to do requires growth on your part. It requires you to step out and experience things you have never experienced before, and your sub-conscious senses that “risk”.

Speaking on stage opens you up to judgment and vulnerability, which again, your sub-conscious perceives as “risk”.

Always remember…Spirit does not speak to you through fear.

So every time you feel that terror, recognize that it’s your sub-conscious mind trying to keep you from moving forward and KEEP GOING!

To help you better understand the fear you’re feeling you may want to take a deep look into your thoughts and beliefs.

Do you have a fear of being seen? A fear of judgment? A fear of looking foolish?

Doing some introspective thinking may shine some light on what is giving your sub-conscious the power it has to cause you to feel that terror.

However, regardless, you must keep moving forward…that’s the only way through the fear to your success.

Why the “fear of success” is a lie

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Bryan S.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

Can you please tell me how to get over the fear of success? I believe it’s what’s continually stopping me from hitting my goals!

Thank you so much!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Bryan and thanks for your question!

The truth is that no one is actually afraid of success.

That’s a false lie created by our ego.

If you were afraid of success, you’d never put your pants on the in the morning, because even putting your pants on is a success.

In reality what people ARE afraid of is:

1) The fear of what they believe they will have to sacrifice to be successful. This is mainly true in regard to relationships.

2) The fear of what people will think if they were successful.

3) The fear of what people will think if they fail.

These are the top 3, but of course there are many other fears that keep us bound in chains and constantly striving for success yet never achieving it.

So you are correct, you are sabotaging your success.

Universal truth states that we create everything; all the good and bad, all the successes and all the failures.

So you need to get very clear on how never achieving the success you want keeps you safe.

I know you’re thinking, “No David, not having the success keeps me feeling unsafe, why would I not want success?”

And I would answer that you have to consider what fear is renting space in your brain, because if you wanted that success as much as you wanted air to breath, you would have it.

4 truths to help you overcome fear

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Mike K.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

Thanks so much for the opportunity to ask you this question. My question is around fear. I would LOVE to control the fear that I feel. I believe it keeps me from my success. Do you have any suggestions pertaining to HOW I can control the fear I feel?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi and thanks for the question.

First let’s all get on the same page.

The definition of fear is: a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.

Fear is an emotion, just like happiness, sadness, joy, or anger. Because fear is an emotion, you can choose whether or not you’re going to allow yourself to be overcome by it.

Let me explain…

Typically entrepreneurs feel fear when they are faced with their own growth or when they know they must change. They feel this fear because their ego is programmed to view these opportunities for growth or change as a threat, and therefore they feel fear to keep from growing and being “at risk”.

The important thing to note in the definition is that it says the emotion is triggered whether the threat is real or IMAGINED.

Most of the time, unless your life is endangered, the fear that we feel is not real.

Here are a few truths that will help you put fear in its place so that you’re not controlled by it:

1) Spirit will never speak to you through fear.

2) When you begin to feel fear, CHOOSE to focus only on the solution or the positive in the situation, and the fear will subside.

3) Always remember that fear is a lie, so if you see yourself getting sucked into that dark place, remind yourself that it’s not real and ask yourself why you’re allowing it to control you. How is it serving you to be paralyzed by fear? You are the creator of your reality, thus the fear is created between your own ears.

4) The only way to neutralize the fear is to step through it. Fighting it or resisting it only gives it energy. For example: If you’re feeling fear about making a sales call, MAKE THE CALL and the fear will disappear.

Step through the feeling of fear to truly grow

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Stephanie.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David, I just read your answer to a question about “pushing away” negative thoughts and I have a follow-up question for you. Sometimes when we have a negative feeling like fear, the solution is simply to change focus to the positive. Other times, focusing on the positive can be an escape from having to face a fear and deal with it.

How can I tell whether to turn away from a negative thought/feeling, or to face it?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Stephanie!

What a great question.

Turning your back on the fear simply means to not let it control what you’re thinking or doing.

I think it may be helpful to use an example.

Let’s say Beth wants to build a business, and to build that business, she knows she needs to make sales.

However, sales is something Beth is very much afraid of, as she’s very concerned about what people may think of her. The thought of making someone angry or feeling “salesy”, causes Beth to have a really hard time engaging in sales conversations both in person and on the phone, which in turn is negatively affecting her ability to make money.

Beth needs to recognize that the fear is a lie, turn her back on it, not allow it to control her and pick up the phone or make the contact regardless of the fear.

She should only focus on the positive outcomes she wants, not on worrying about angering someone or what they may think of her.

Focusing on the positive doesn’t mean she’s not “dealing” with something she needs to deal with; she’s stepping right through what’s causing her to feel the fear. And as soon as she does that, the fear loses its power.

You see fear rears its head when you’re on the cusp of growth. Never turn away from that growth because of the fear. Instead, turn your back on the fear, tell it to get behind you and keep going!

Never deal with the fear itself…deal with what’s causing the fear.
