[New Article] Do you have a backup plan?

Post 135 of 250

Dear friends,

This week I’m here on the East Coast, hosting back-to-back private client VIP days & sales trainings at my home.

This is one of my favorite ways to work with my make-no-excuses private clients. (Pictured are Crystal Thomas and I, just after completing her VIP Experience!)

In the energy of being in person together, we never fail to uncover what’s really been holding them back … so we can create their step-by-step strategy to soar … which they too can “see” clearly and fully believe in.

AND THEN, come Sunday, I’ll be on my way to Lake Las Vegas to host my first live coaching seminar in over a year: My Breaking Free Live Experience!!

Will I be seeing you there?

“Just Believe”,®

P.S. Recently, I was asked this question:

“What is the one most important insight you can offer people that will positively change their life in the most remarkable ways?”

Would you like to hear my response?

It’s part of a no-cost series called: The 21 Luminaries

By enrolling, you’ll receive the ONE INSIGHT that myself (plus Arielle Ford, Marci Shimoff & 18 other thought leaders) provided to answer this life-changing question.

What Is a Decision?

When we decide to follow our dream or our desire, we often think that we need to have a backup plan, a Plan B.

Folks, if you make a decision that includes a backup plan, you haven’t made a real decision.

You haven’t decided to move forward with 100% of your focus, intention and energy. You’re hedging; you’re still thinking about that Plan B.

More importantly, though, you’re not signaling to the Universe that you’re ready to step onto your divine path.

Remember, it is through our desire that the Universe calls us to our divine purpose.

The Universe knows that you’ve answered that call when your decision is clear and unequivocal, when you’ve burned the bridge behind you.

Once you make that strong decision, the Universe will then start to bring you what you need. It will move rapidly toward you.

A decision, then, is a powerful act that rallies the forces of the Universe. And that’s why decision is the second of “7 secrets of multimillionaire entrepreneurs“.

Strong Decisions Bring Success

A hedging decision is also problematic because you’re staying within your comfort zone, which is ruled by fear. If you let it, fear will control the way you think and will prevent you from experiencing the creativity, flow and manifestation that you want.

But when you make a decision that cuts off all other options but your desire, you pass through the dominion of fear and into the realm of the divine. And then you cannot fail. Spirit will guide you and bring you what you need.

Now, you do have to remain vigilant. Fear will try to stop you. And when the Universe shows you your next step, don’t throw out excuses like, “I don’t have the money, time, skill set, credentials, etc.” If you do, you won’t move on.

Instead, when you make your decision, say this, “I will follow my desire. I will step into this greatness, and I accept everything that comes along with it.”

You Have to Decide First

Another point that makes people uncomfortable is that they have to make the decision before they’re given their first step.

They have to:

a. Acknowledge the desire
b. Make the decision to follow the desire
c. Step out in faith

We often want to know the outcome before we make a decision, but that’s not how the divine path works. You have to step out in faith.

My Decision

It’s not easy to take that first step, but it’s absolutely rewarding.

After I left the loading dock, I went to work for a petroleum corporation and I made great progress there, but I was still waking up every morning at 2:20 with a voice in my head that said, “If you want to live your dream, you have to leave.”

I asked my mentor, “If I leave, what will I do?”

He told me what I’ve just told you, and he also said that I had to learn to trust Spirit.

It took me six months to make the decision to leave my corporate job, but I did. I walked away.

Believe me, people thought I was crazy and irresponsible. I had a wife, four kids, two cars, a mortgage. But I knew that I could not go through the rest of my life without knowing if the middle-of-the-night prompting was true.

It was. Within one month, what I needed showed up right in front of me and led me to do what I’m doing today.

Part of what I’m doing today is showing you how to make the decision to step onto your own divine path.

Making that decision is up to you.

I got nervous when I read the title of the e-mail asking “Do you have a backup plan?” – not because I don’t have one, yet because one of the great things I’ve personally downloaded from you in the past is exactly as your article reveals – “Don’t have one!” – so, PHEW!!! I’ve noticed, even in recent months that when I have started to walk the line of fear motivated decisions versus heart-centered ones, that I end up giving credence to a potential plan B – and it always smacks me in the face. So, thanks once again David – as your article follows suit with one of the great insights I’ve gleaned from you in the past, and was reminded of when my toe started to dip along that plan B – now, getting back to what’s home inside and staying the course – thank you once again for cementing the reminder!

Great Mo, sorry for the initial alarm. Backup plans are just a message to the Universe that I am not to be taken seriously. Burn the ships and know that there is no turning back. That accompanied with continual action will propel you toward your goal. Decisions, decisions, decisions… Appreciate your post!

This makes total sense to me. That feeling I get when I make the decision and I’m 100% on board…that’s when I know I’ve made the decision and it’s out in the Universe. Thank you for reminding me not to be wishy washy with a decision.

You’re welcome Melissa. The Universe doesn’t respond to wishy-washy; make a decision and never retreat from it. Your ego will try to influence you to go back to what is safe. False security is to no ones benefit. Move forward with confidence knowing that you were not meant to struggle. Thanks for the comment.

I agree with this… it is like when peope say they will “try” to make for Tuesday at 10 am.
we all know it’s not going to happen. This reminds me of the story of “burning the boats” ….there is no turning back, it’s do or die!

No turning back Ago, and who would want to. Once you step through that the first time you NEVER want to turn back. Growth hinges on the decision you make based on where you want to be. I appreciate the post!

Spot on! Totally agree! Just had that happen to me recently. I made the decision of what I wanted to do. I received from Spirit what to do (my telesummit – Live Life More Abundantly!) and all the pieces fell in place to make it happen very successfully. When I received the idea, I felt I should have it completed in 3 weeks (and one of those weeks my computer was down!) which is a pretty short period of time to put something like this together. But I didn’t question it or make excuses, just moved forward. It was very successful and now I am seeing and receiving the bigger picture how to carry it forward and the resources to do so are easily coming to me.

Great Auriella! No excuses is the fastest way to more success and abundance. I appreciate you sharing and would love more updates on the breakthroughs you are having.

Part of making a decision, is making the room to see that a decision needs to be made. Is it possible that your 2am wake-ups could only arrive at that time because your mind was too cluttered the rest of the day. I am learning more and more about how ones energy works and how to allow for the greater you to appear. Space is needed. Time to reflect and truly understand if you are happy with where you are. Forget about plan B, what is your plan A?

Dear David,
When I read this last line, “Part of what I’m doing today is showing you how to make the decision to step onto your own divine path.” huge tears welled up in my eyes and heart. Tears of recognition, affirmation, and feeling passionately in my heart my connection with God both cheering me on and kicking me out of the nest. I do not have a back up plan. I feel strongly, I am standing on the edge of a high high cliff, and it is time to leap and fly. (One of my totems is Eagle) I have been a risk taker, dedicated to living true to my divine path throughout my life and have cultivated deep faith as a result. Still, here I am at a new place in the spiral of life unfolding, and the Divine is once again asking me to leap into the unknown, it seems much much bigger than ever before. I am immeasurably grateful to have you here, standing beside me, cheering me on. We just recently met when you coached me on skype during the first Live Streaming event, yet already I feel a deep connection with you. I can’t wait to meet you in person this coming week in Vegas and to step into all that is passionately yearning to unfold. Here is a favorite quote on this theme that I wish to share with you

” The Lark is the bird that sings in the dark, before the dawn.”

Blessings, Linda Grace

The story of how you evolved into the this iteration of you has always inspired me. But I have been afraid to follow in your footsteps.
Thank you for this particular post. I think that i am finally ready to make the decision and to do what it takes to live my dream.

Wow, David, not only am I loving these articles, I’m also loving the commentators you are attracting to your blog. All very inspiring posts.

I didn’t really get on my path until I had a near-death experience. There’s nothing like not knowing whether you’ll make it through the next 24 hours to focus attention. I realized that despite all my superficial successes, I felt really sad about my life. It felt really empty. So I had a conversation with God, and I promised Him that if he gave me another chance, I would do it all differently.

I kept my promise, which culminated in quitting my prestigious legal career to be a holistic life and abundance coach.

Like you, I left my job with a big mortgage and high expenses, and a lot of people thought I was crazy. Fortunately, my brush with death made other people’s opinions a lot less important than they once were. Take it from me, when you aren’t sure if you’ll live another 24 hours, you don’t care anymore what people think, and you wish you’d never spent one iota of your energy on worrying about that. On the other hand, what does matter is making a real contribution to people, which ironically is very difficult to do while still trying to seek their approval ;)

Looking forward to more articles.

cheers,
Erika Awakening
