When the biggest LIAR in your life is you…

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Margaret Foster.  You can find her on the web at http://www.margaretafoster.co.uk/.

Question:

Hi David,

I qualified as a life coach and NLP Practitioner over 3 years ago. The plan was to work in an office during the day and build my business during the evenings. However, I've only coached a handful of people and they were free sessions. I often help people out at work with their problems, but they never want to sign up for anything.
If I'm honest I'm scared to sell my services. Many people I've spoken to don't even know what coaching is and when I've explained, I get a lot of negative feedback.
I'm totally stuck and keep thinking that maybe I should just give up but something won't let me for some reason.
So my question is – should I give it up as a bad job? Maybe the Universe is trying to tell me something!

Thank you!

Answer:

You are absolutely right, Margaret. The Universe is most definitely trying to tell you something.

Here's the secret to finding out exactly what it's trying to tell you:

1)     Spirit never speaks to you through fear.

2)     The desire you feel is GIVEN to you by Spirit.

So if you are feeling fear around selling your services, you can immediately know that the fear you are experiencing is coming from your ego. And if it's coming from your ego, you know it's a LIE designed to stop you.

And when you are feeling the desire to grow your business and help others, you can immediately know that the desire you are experiencing is coming from Spirit. And if it's coming from Spirit, you know it's the TRUTH.

So, whom are you going to choose to listen to?

I hope you listen to that Spirit-given desire within you and begin to really take a look at why you have fear around selling your services.

You must realize that the fear is the only thing keeping you from your desire and step through it.

    • Thanks for the comment Victoria. I am very proud of my Neagle Code blogs as they have helped so many people since first implemented. You ask the questions, I provide the answers…it just seems to reinforce that we are all on the correct path. Continued success to you and be sure to share it with your friends.

  2. Margaret,

As David says, you have to do it yourself…but you don’t have to do it alone. The speed with which you make that shift in attitude and release the fear can be much more rapid if you engage with someone who has been there and knows what it takes to get past it.

I was near the point of quitting myself, but I was prompted to take one last stab at it by hiring a business/mindset coach. The money involved was a huge leap of faith, but with my coach’s help I made it back within a month.

The only defeat is giving up. Whether it’s a member of David’s team or someone else you’re attracted to, get some help and you _will_ move forward. Good luck!

    • Very true Michael. It really is the ‘three feet from gold’ story retold over and over. You cannot even have the thought or idea without the way to achieve it being present. Believe that you are worthy of it and push through any worry, fear, or doubt you may encounter. It really does make all the difference!

  3. Margaret, I have a question: how would you feel if your “day-job” boss said, “What we’ll do is, stop your salary entirely, then we’ll just ring you up for free advice whenever we need it – if you’re really good, we’ll let you come in and do a few shifts for free!”

What objections would you have to this idea?

What core beliefs do you have about deserving payment for your day-job – beliefs perhaps around results, your commitment of time and energy, and your value to your employer’s company, that you can learn from?

I don’t know where your fears about deserving payment for your coaching work are hiding, so that’s just an idea, have a play with it… you might turn up some interesting things.

    • Thanks for the suggestion Miss C. This is a great lesson in self worth and charging for the value you provide by way of your services. You have to BELIEVE that and take action in order to grow.

  4. “Spirit never speaks to you through fear.” Thats a new thought for me. It allows me to seek another voice as I fear. I didnt have a clear alternative before. Now, when I catch myself in fear, I can seek the voice that offers me more life.

    • Fear is a lie Nitsan. You need to learn to push the ‘next’ button and get those thoughts out of your mind. The more energy you give it the more you will stay exactly where you are. You certainly can do it! I appreciate the post.

  5. Wow this is so true. Just attended a three day workshop where this is exactly
what we learned about. Awesome to see it again knowing it happens to the best of
us and is part of the learning process.

  6. David, your name means a lot to me, because it is mine, and was given to me by my mother, a devout Christian if there ever was one–my mother did not merely preach the principles of Jesus in the Gospels, she lived them. You know the one, about judging the other guy for having a splinter in his eye, when you have a plank in your own (something like that). So, my question to you, as it would be to myself, is this: Do you practice in all areas of your life the gorgeous principles that you teach in your courses? And, if not, why not?

    • I try to see the truth in every situation David, and yet without struggle there is no growth. I study constantly and travel with my books, but like you I also have an ego that would love to derail me. The one thing I NEVER do is judge people, so there is no splinter in my eye.

All any of us can do is our best, and so that is what I do.

  7. Can I please say a huge thank you to you David and to everyone who has responded to my question. It’s wonderful to receive so much help and support.

    Thank you.

    Margaret.

    • You are very welcome Margaret! Happy to be of service and appreciate you having the courage to ask the question.
