The Art of Success – Article #18 – Are You Suppressing?

Are You Suppressing?

Healthy self-expression is a โ€œmust-haveโ€ if you want a truly successful, satisfying life.

What does it mean to express yourself?

It means to give voice to your thoughts or feelings. You either say what youโ€™re thinking or feeling, or you act it out physically in some way (or both).

You acknowledge whatโ€™s inside of you, and let it out.

As human beings, we were meant to have full self-expression.

However, as kids most us of were taught itโ€™s not OK to express ourselves. In fact, we were sometimes punished for expressing ourselves.

Be honestโ€ฆhow many of you were not allowed to be angry?

And so as adults, we continue to suppress what weโ€™re feeling and thinking.

Hereโ€™s the thing:

Whatever you donโ€™t express, you suppressโ€ฆand that will make you sick.

If you think or feel something but donโ€™t express it, you begin to suppress it. You bury it inside of you.

This has a negative effect.

Everything you suppress will eventually find an unhealthy way to express itself with and through you. This is called โ€œdisease,โ€ which is a body thatโ€™s not at ease.

Health is the natural state for you to be in, both physically and emotionally.

We must learn how to express what weโ€™re experiencing in a healthy wayโ€ฆincluding the negative things.

Itโ€™s not โ€œwrongโ€ for you to experience something negative or to feel anger frustration or hurt. Itโ€™s merely a part of experiencing life.

If youโ€™re feeling something negative, itโ€™s the catalyst you need to have in your life that will take you to the next level โ€” but only if you understand it and express it the right way.

One way to practice healthy expression is to start by writing your thoughts and feelings in a journal while allowing yourself to experience whatever emotions come up for you.

Write it all out on paper.

What needs to come out will come out.

Expressing yourself in a healthy way will create a deep sense of personal freedom unlike anything else youโ€™ve ever experienced.

Desire or dysfunction?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

Can having a desire be a bad thing? Iโ€™ve heard some people say that a person must let go of the desire because the desire controls them as long as they are attached to it. What is the best way to keep the proper perspective?

Neagle Code Answer

Hello, and thanks for this question!

If we look to truth, we can find the answer to your question.

Desire is necessary.

It drives our purpose.

It pulls us to become who we are.

It helps us see when and where we need to make changes in our life.

And most importantly, desire is a KEY ingredient in how we create the world around us.

Desire is not evil, but it can be dysfunctional if you mistake true desire for a dysfunctional need.

The test for all of us to keep ourselves in check — and make sure that our desire is coming from a place of abundance and more life to all — is to use the 4 Questions.

I teach the 4 Questions in ALL of my seminars and workshops and to all my clients.

They are a series of questions that help us determine if we desire something or if we are making a dysfunctional decision.

The questions apply to every decision you make and every desire you have.

Question 1: Is this something you want to be, do or have? (You should get a yes to this question)

Question 2: Is being, doing or having this going to take you closer to your goal? (You should get a yes to this question)

Question 3: Is being, doing or having this in alignment with Universal Law (more life to all)? (You should get a yes to this question)

Question 4: Does being, doing or having this take away the rights of others or does it take away someoneโ€™s right to choose? (You should get a no to this question)

Use these questions daily to help you stay focused and on a clear path to your goals.

Remember:

Desire is the unexpressed possibility within you,ย seeking expression outside of you.

To deny desire would be to deny your true self.
