Distracted and afraid? How to build your business anyway

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I know what I have to do to grow my business and fulfill my purpose, but every time I get the courage to pick up the phone and reach out to someone, fear stops me and I end up allowing myself to get distracted. I donโ€™t know what to do to overcome this. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Neagle Code Answer

First, letโ€™s bring awareness to whatโ€™s really happening here.

Your subconscious mind does not understand time, and therefore does not see your lack of sales in this moment as a potential major catastrophe for your business in the near future. It only sees that youโ€™re safe right where you are, and thatโ€™s exactly where it wants you to stay.

Every time you start to make a move outside of that paradigm, you will feel fear. Youโ€™ll begin to have thoughts of:

โ€ข What if they think Iโ€™m salesy?
โ€ข What if they think Iโ€™m pushy?
โ€ข What if I make a mistake and say the wrong thing?
โ€ข What if they reject me or hang up on me?
โ€ข What if Iโ€™m bothering them?

And you stop.

You donโ€™t make the call or have the conversation, and you stay exactly where you are.

I come from a place of bringing truth into a person's life, so consider this:

Your purpose has safety automatically built into it.

Why would that be?

That means that you would have to be safe doing it, or there would be no purpose in more life, itโ€™s one and the same.

So this fear that you feel is actually a lie designed to keep you small and safe.

And hereโ€™s the REAL kicker:

The fear you feel is ACTUALLY POINTING YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

If youโ€™re experiencing fear when youโ€™re looking at moving towards your purpose, it is because that is in direct conflict with what youโ€™ve been programmed with; the false need for safety.

Use your ability to choose.

Pick up that phone.

Have that conversation.

Step more fully into your purpose, and as you do this, the fear will subside.

After all, itโ€™s only a lieโ€ฆ

How to overcome โ€œItโ€™s a lot of moneyโ€ objections

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Kylie J.

Neagle Code Question

David, HELPโ€ฆ.I HATE asking people for the money! Over the last 30 days Iโ€™ve done a ton of discovery sessions and none have turned into committed clients yet, despite them all being interested and highly targeted, qualified leads. Prospects get all excited and then they balk at the price and say, โ€œItโ€™s A LOT of money!โ€

I feel like I know how to convey value. I know what to say, but when people resist the price, I back off and tolerate the โ€œLet me think about it and get back to youโ€ response. I just don't want to seem pushy! What should I do?

Neagle Code Answer

Fantastic question!

The true problem is that your fear of what someone is going to think of you is negatively affecting your ability to have a powerful sales conversation.

If you care more about how you are perceived than you do about helping people you wonโ€™t be aware of specific questions you can ask to overcome the โ€œItโ€™s a lot of moneyโ€ objection.

If you werenโ€™t afraid of being pushy, you would have responded to โ€œItโ€™s a lot of moneyโ€ with โ€œCompared to what?โ€ instead of backing off and handing out your brochure.

You see, the โ€œItโ€™s a lot of moneyโ€ answer is a conditioned response people use when faced with a decision that leads to their own growth. So you then have to ask them another question to see what the true objection is.

If you were to ask, โ€œCompared to what?โ€ you would be able to see how they are making their decision and allow you to redirect the conversation.

Step into being powerful and confident in your next sales conversation, and you will be amazed at the win-win conversation that will take place.

Always remember, โ€œsalesโ€ is not doing something TO someone, itโ€™s doing something FOR someone.

Why am I scared to sell my services?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

If I'm honest I'm scared to sell my services. Many people I've spoken to don't even know what coaching is and when I've explained, I get a lot of negative feedback. I'm totally stuck and keep thinking that maybe I should just give up but something won't let me for some reason.

So my question is simply: should I give it up? Maybe the Universe is trying to tell me something!

Thank you!

Neagle Code Answer

You are absolutely right. The Universe is most definitely trying to tell you something.

Hereโ€™s the secret to finding out exactly what itโ€™s trying to tell you:

1) Spirit never speaks to you through fear.
2) The desire you feel is GIVEN to you by Spirit.
3) Spirit never tells you what NOT to doโ€ฆonly what TO do.

If you are feeling fear around selling your services, you can immediately know that the fear you are experiencing is coming from your ego. And if itโ€™s coming from your ego, you know itโ€™s a LIE designed to stop you.

And when you are feeling the desire to grow your business and help others, you can immediately know that the desire you are experiencing is coming from Spirit. And if itโ€™s coming from Spirit, you know itโ€™s the TRUTH.

So, whom are you going to choose to listen to?

I hope you listen to that Spirit-given desire within you and begin to really take a look at why you have fear around selling your services.

You must realize that the fear is the only thing keeping you from your desire and then you must step through that fear.

Should I stop when things get difficult?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I recently heard a pretty well known speaker in this industry say that if something is too difficult, itโ€™s the Universe telling you that youโ€™re doing the wrong thing.

Iโ€™m pretty sure you disagree with that, but I would like to hear in your words how you inspire your clients to overcome this particular block when so many “gurus” out there are convincing people to stop when things get tough.

Neagle Code Answer

Youโ€™re correctโ€ฆI completely disagree.

Unfortunately people who stop when things get difficult miss out on the experience of growth.

You see difficulty is only a perception.

Let me make a distinction here.

Iโ€™m not talking about difficulty in a physical sense. Letโ€™s be honest, lifting a freight train with your bare hands WOULD be difficult.

Iโ€™m talking about the feeling of difficulty. Or better yet, the โ€œexcuseโ€ of difficulty.

So letโ€™s play with a scenario.

Bob really wants to create a flourishing coaching business. His friends have always told him that heโ€™s a great listener and heโ€™s helped many people see their goals to completion.

Bob has his website up, he blogs regularly, and heโ€™s all set to fill up his calendar with clients.

Except Bob doesnโ€™t have any clients.

To have clients, Bob would need to get out from behind his computer and talk to people.

He hasnโ€™t done this because approaching and talking to people is difficult for him.

If he were to stop here, he wouldnโ€™t grow his business, and heโ€™d probably end up taking a part-time job to pay his bills.

The truth is that talking to people is not difficult. It doesnโ€™t take a great deal of physical strength to shake someoneโ€™s hand and introduce yourself.

But to Bob itโ€™s difficult because heโ€™s in fear. Itโ€™s difficult because of whatโ€™s going on between his two ears.

Underneath it all, Bob is terrified to meet new people because heโ€™s afraid of being judged by them. Heโ€™s afraid theyโ€™ll think heโ€™s salesy and theyโ€™ll reject him.

And what he doesnโ€™t understand is that the door to his success lies in stepping through that fear so he can create a new experience and reprogram those old beliefs.

So whenever you feel resistance to anything in your life, ask yourself:

WHAT AM I AFRAID OF?

And then do it any way, because fear is a lie and the truth will set you free.

What fear-based thoughts are going on between your two ears?! Letโ€™s put them in their place: I invite you to sign up for my newest (no-cost) 60-minute mini-course called Mental Chatter Mayhem at this link:

[5 Simple Steps to Unshakeable Self-Confidence Series] Article #8 ~ Are You Working on the Correct Problem?

Did this happen to you?

Did you get stuck or confused as you tried to apply Steps 1 and 2?
(As you tried to determine the thought that keeps you from seeing the results you want, and then replace that thought with one based in Universal Law?)

If so, I encourage you to try again.

Itโ€™s almost certainly the case that you got stuck because werenโ€™t working on the correct problem.

You see, most of us have layers and layers of stories we tell ourselves about ourselves, so it can be a real challenge to accurately identify the thought, belief or story that is the core of our difficulties.

In other words, your issue likely isnโ€™t what you think it is.

Case Study: Fear of Sales Conversations
For instance, a student of mine had a lot of fear come up around sales conversations and thought the core problematic belief had to do with the outcome, so he might have created this Step 1:

I canโ€™t do sales conversations because Iโ€™m afraid they wonโ€™t be successful.

While that might be true, it wasnโ€™t the problem that was keeping him stuck.

The real issue was about his father.

He was a grown man, but he kept getting hooked into an old story that was triggering fear with other people. He had the secret hope and wish that his father would stop rejecting him and start accepting him.

Because this was all subconscious, every sales conversation became a conversation with his father.

He wanted his prospects to accept him. He needed them to accept him, because he didnโ€™t accept himself.

Once he realized the right problem, he could then apply Steps 1 and 2 correctly:

Step One: I want to do sales conversations, but I canโ€™t because I might be rejected, which triggers the rejection I felt from my father.

Step Two: I can do sales conversations because the outcome doesnโ€™t matter to my self-esteem. Whether the person chooses to work with me or not, I accept myself. I am worthy just as I am.

Can you see the difference that would make?

Freed from his need to be accepted by the people he wants as clients, instead, he can show up powerfully and serve them.

A Common Problem
I used my studentโ€™s story, because itโ€™s very common.

Many people desire approval more than money, but most people arenโ€™t aware of that. They just struggle and donโ€™t know why.

When youโ€™re making sales, youโ€™re putting yourself in the position of being rejected more than being accepted. That is a mathematical fact in business. More people say no than yes, and that goes for every business on the planet.

So you have to get to the point where you approve of yourself, and you are your own authority.

Thatโ€™s what this series is all about.

So try again with Steps 1 and 2, and begin to kick your core problem to the curb.

And then with Step 3, next time, you can finally start seeing the results that you want in your life.
