Why Do I Choke When It’s Crunch-Time?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I seem to be programmed with a lot of negative faith. Many times in my life, when I was very qualified to do something and people were rooting for me, I’d choke at the last minute. It didn’t matter if it was scoring a goal or auditioning. I’d rehearse and really know all my lines or be good at the sport I was playing. Yet when it came to crunch time, I would totally choke over and over again.

It made me feel so destroyed and broken downβ€”because I knew what I was doing, yet I would totally cave emotionally. How do I develop a more positive faith?

Neagle Code Answer

I don’t know that it’s an issue of having a negative faith. Usually, when we talk about negative faith, we’re thinking about fear or an expectation of something consistently going wrong.

When you’re giving too much energy to the outcome of something, that’s called hyper attention. You’re too attached to that outcome from the negative perspective of not wanting it to go wrong. Most people actually have an issue with that.

This is where the idea of β€œLet go and let God” comes in. You prepare, you do your bestβ€”then you let it go and just step into letting it happen.

It’s not about controlling every aspect of what happens. You have to turn it over to your higher consciousness and allow it to operate in that situation. That’s all you have to do.

You can tell yourself, β€œI’ve prepared as best as I can. I truly did my best in preparing or practicing. And now I’m turning it over to God or the universe.”

When you’re scared to death that you’re not going to get the outcome you’re looking for, you over-prepare or hyper prepare. That causes fear, doubt, and anxiety to invade your mind, which has a negative effect on your ability to perform.

Although it looks positive, it’s actually coming from fear. It’s coming from insecurity. You end up getting the thing you’re attached to the most, which is the insecurity.

I’m Nervous I Won’t Be Able to Repeat It

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I recently had my best month everβ€”$20K. Then I went into my sabotage pattern of freaking out.

Recently I realized I didn’t have any sales calls booked. I manifested some calls, but each person freaked out because of the money.

I’m nervous, and not sure how to repeat my $20K month (especially with all the craziness and uncertainty in the world right now). I’m trying, but I don’t know if I can do it. What should I do?

Neagle Code Answer

First of all, you don’t β€œtry” to do somethingβ€”you do it. It’s just a decision.

Let’s work with what your subconscious mind is doing. You’re doubting that you can repeat the $20K month, and you’re using the current messages in the media as confirmation that you can’t.

Then don’t repeat it. Make more.

You can have some fun with this:

First… TURN OFF the news!
Second…take the weight off your goal, or it will become psychologically crushing. If you fail to reach it and completely blow itβ€”remind yourself that you’ll be okay.

The world won’t come to an end if you don’t hit one of your goals.

So let’s play with this a bit. Come at it from the stronger, higher side of yourself. Step out against whatever your subconscious mind is suggesting to you.

Whatever your subconscious mind is suggesting you can’t doβ€”it’s pointing you in the direction of what you CAN do. You can’t have one side without the other also existing.

When your subconscious mind says, β€œYou can’t repeat the $20K month,” then don’t repeat it. Do more. Make more. See, it’s giving you the answer.

When someone challenges you about money on a sales callβ€”have fun with it. Instead of taking it all β€œbusiness serious,” I used to start playing with the other person and really challenging them on what they were challenging ME about.

Not that you’re doing this in a mean wayβ€”but really challenging them on what the excuse is. They’re talking with someone who can literally change their life, and they don’t even realize it. That’s why you charge what you charge.

When people said to me, β€œYou really believe you’re worth $150,000?” I would say, β€œNo, I believe you’re worth $150,000. You’re the one who’s paying the money. You’re the one who needs to feel that you’re worth it, not me.”

Think of the sales call as a hologram. You’re not fighting the other personβ€”they’re a representation of your own belief system. You’re not going up against the other personβ€”you’re going up against your own subconscious mind. You’re experiencing what your belief system is attracting.

We’re trying to help people understand THEIR worth.

They’re worth solving the problem, losing the weight, saving the marriage, building the business, and getting the results they want. It doesn’t matter what your product or service does. It betters somebody’s life.

And as far as letting in doubt… you are NOT alone in this. SO MANY business owners are getting caught up in the opposing messages in the media and they are freezing. Can You Just β€œDecide” to Be a Millionaire?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I’ve heard you say fear screams the loudest just before you make a decision. I had a goal to make seven figures. I’ve been doing β€œterror barrier stuff,” doing things I’ve never done before, and getting good at facing fears. β€œYou get the courage to do the thing by doing a thing.” I did everything that would lead to making seven figures.

But if I’m honest, I never thought my goal would actually occur. I wasn’t worried about it, because I didn’t believe it could happen. I wasn’t absorbing it as a real goal. Now, it’s happening. I’m super delighted and excited.

Now I have this bigger fear where I’m like, β€œOh my God, now I’m going to BE that person who makes seven figures.” To overcome thisβ€”do I need to make a decision to BE that person now?

Neagle Code Answer

Yes. You need to decide to be the person who makes seven figures.

It’s a double-sided decision. It’s the decision to become that person, and it’s also the decision to let go of the old one.

This can feel very much like someone’s about to die. Because someone is about to die. It’s very real.

It’s not a metaphor.

It’s real.

That’s the decision you have to makeβ€”to become this new person who makes seven figures.

Decide that earning this amount of money will become part of your new reality, your new experience, and your default.

Decide that you’ll continue doing the necessary things a 7-figure earner would do on a daily basisβ€”including facing all those fears.

Use all the tools you have at your disposal and everything you’ve learned to stick to this commitment.

…And congratulations for making that decision!

The Fear of Things Going Wrong in Business

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I want to maintain our high level of success, but fear keeps popping upβ€”that something won’t happen, or something will go wrong. I know you’ve said many times you don’t eliminate fear, but I’m a slow learner. How do I eliminate fear and stay focused on the opportunity?

In chapter 5 of You Too, Can Be Prosperous, faith is defined as β€œthe substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The last sentence says, β€œFaith is both Substance and evidence, both cause and effect.” Does this mean my faith makes me open and available for the cause of what I want to show up? Then I act on the cause, which creates the desired effect?

Neagle Code Answer

Yes, absolutely. Faith is both the substance and the evidence of something that’s not seen.

Remember, faith is a dual-edged sword. If you have faith in your fear, you’ll manifest your fear. Faith is something you can’t see, but it’s extremely powerful and will manifest whatever side you put it on.

If you think about the fear, you’re opening that door to cause it to be an issue for you.

As far as β€œeliminating fear,” you don’t eliminate it. Here’s the thing: your subconscious mind doesn’t want you to hear that. It blocks this stuff out, because if we don’t hear it, we can’t use it.

Fear is coming from a pattern that’s already in your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between what’s real and imagined. Whether you have a fear that you actually experienced before, or you’re imagining a fear someone else gave youβ€”when your subconscious mind goes to fear, it always views it as real.

Part of removing it is, you have to experience whatever the fear is about without actually experiencing what the fear suggests.

How do we do that without making the fear go away first? We use faith, courage, and confidence.

You tell yourself: β€œOkay, I’m afraid. I acknowledge I’m afraid, but I’m going to do the thing I need to do anyway.” The fear doesn’t get a voice in the decision. It’ll be screaming at you the whole damn time. But the more you continue to do it, it will subside.

The fear screams the loudest just prior to the decision. Once you make a real decision, fear subsides.

This is true with both business and personal stuff.

Part of the problem is, you don’t want to experience something going wrong. You need to change that. When things go wrong in business, it’s an opportunity.

Now, I’m not saying you need to sit and β€œmake things go wrong all day,” but you need to not be afraid of anything going wrong. If it goes wrong, it goes wrong. We’re going to learn from it. It will open the door to something equal or greater. Bring it on.

It doesn’t matter what goes wrong. It always provides an opportunity for equal or greater benefit to what you were experiencing in every area of your life.

It happens, you move on, create the next thing, and keep moving forward.

Not Sure What to Believe

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Amanda L.Β

Neagle Code Question

My biggest issue right now is that I’m not sure what to believe. I’m a small business owner, and I feel so confused about what to do. On one hand I have people telling me to act as if it’s business as usual, and on the other hand I have people telling me about how they are losing business and may have to file for bankruptcy, so I should be conserving and planning for the worst.

WHAT IS GOING ON? I feel like I can’t get my feet solidly underneath me. Can you help?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Amanda!

Please know that you’re not alone in what you are experiencing. I’ve spoken to so many business owners over the last few weeks who have asked me the exact same question.

So, let’s clear the confusion.

First: Get focused on what YOU want. NOT what you think you can do…but the deep desire you feel in your heart for what you want to experience or create in this world.

This feeling has to be strong, because the power of your desire will push you through any fear or resistance that you may experience as you progress toward the goal.

Second: Make a decision. Decide on your goal and make sure it is in line with your desire. For example, if it’s your desire to expand your business, a goal may be to increase the number of clients by 25% in the next 30 days.

Third: Make a list of new behaviors (This is where it may get uncomfortable). For example: If your goal is to increase the number of clients by 25%, then new behaviors may be calling all your pre-existing clients and directly asking for referrals, running paid advertising or creating videos to send to potential clients.

Fourth: TAKE ACTION. Begin to take action and implement the new behaviors.

The truth is, it doesn’t matter what someone else is experiencing…YOU can create your own experience. Tune out everyone else and focus on YOU and what YOU can do right now to create exactly what you want!

If you’re looking for more support around how to control your thinking, see the truth and create a plan of action, join me next week on May 6-8th for my Art of Success Watch Party! Tickets are only $97.00 AND 100% of the proceeds will be used to purchase Face Shields for NYC Hospitals!

How Do I Hold Myself Accountable?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes fromΒ someone who wishes to remain anonymous.Β

Neagle Code Question

How do I keep myself accountable to my goals and deadlines I set? Should I hire a coach, or is there a way to do it myself?

Part of this is, I’m doing something I don’t really love to do. I have a family and responsibilities that aren’t going away. What I really want to do is educate people and help them change their lives.

Neagle Code Answer

People often ask me, β€œHow do I control my mindset? How do I hold myself accountable?”

This question always indicates that a person is doing something they don’t want to do.

If you’re doing something you love and you WANT to do it β€” then you wouldn’t need to be β€œheld accountable.” You would just get up every day, and do it. You’d do it to the best of your ability.

We only have this problem when we’re doing something we don’t want to do… OR if we’re afraid of it.

Which one is it for you? Is it something you don’t love? Or something you’re afraid of?

If you don’t love what you’re doing… ask yourself: β€œWhy am I continuing to do something I don’t really love?”

Why can’t you do what you love AND meet your responsibilities?

Ask yourself: β€œWhat do I love to do?” Figure out how to bridge the gap between doing what you β€œhave” to do and doing what you LOVE to do.

When we don’t have a passion in life that means everything to us β€” any fear will stop us.

When you pick the thing you love to do the most, you’ll crawl over a mountain to get it done. The courage and enthusiasm will show up, allowing you to conquer any fear.

When you’re doing something you love, you don’t need a coach to get past the fear.

If you really want to help people β€” find one person every day that you could help in some way. You can help them with absolutely anything.

You can do this without thinking about business, clients, customers, or charging anyone.

Start embracing this gift in all areas of your life. If you go to the gas station, ask someone, β€œIs there something I can do for you today to make your day great?”

Give people gifts, smile at them, tell them they look amazing. Over-tip someone. Find ways to be a benefit to every person you come in contact with.

You’re not doing it for acknowledgement. You’re doing it because that’s your purpose in life.

This will get you in touch with the side of yourself that you are suppressing β€” that says, β€œI can’t do what I love, because of all the responsibilities I have.”

If you really want to help people, it won’t matter what it is. Find people to help every day.

They think I’m too expensive

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

I recently parted ways with a client who was becoming a toxic relationship. After making that decision, many new leads showed up in my pipeline.

I’ve had calls with several of them, but many haven’t panned out. I believe part of it is β€œsticker shock” β€” they think I’m too expensive.

Now I’m starting to go into doubt, fear, and worry. I’ve become a split personality. Some days, I’m focused, pumped up, excited about my goal, and ready to do what I need to do. Then something happens… a client says, β€œNo,” or they cancel the call before we talk. I’ll think, β€œThat one didn’t work; now I’m screwed.”

It’s a back-and-forth battle. I’m frustrated with myself, and starting to fear this won’t work β€” maybe my goals are wrong. Why am I doing this?

Neagle Code Answer

Thanks for the GREAT question!

When you have a vision and a goal for your life and business, it is your responsibility to hold onto that dream.

It’s not anybody else’s responsibility to verify that you’re on the right track by buying from you.

Everyone has a dream, and everyone is responsible for holding on to their own dream.

If someone doesn’t see the value in what you offer, and is not willing to pay for it β€” there could be a million different reasons why. But it has nothing to do with you.

It has nothing to do with you being on the right track, or being on the wrong track.

It IS an indication that they’re not the right client for you.

This is where I see people get really messed up. They’re using outside verification to determine whether or not they’re doing the right thing.

The responsibility for that is squarely in your hands.

You’re responsible for bringing your vision and goal into the world. You’re responsible for finding the people who see the value in it.

More people will always tell you β€œno” than β€œyes.” That’s how business works.

Your job is to find the people who see the value, and who will say yes.

For the ones who don’t β€” don’t take it personally, because it’s not personal. Their β€œno” is a reflection of everything going on in their life, their judgments, and their evaluation of things.

It has nothing to do with you.

There are plenty of people here for you, who will buy from you, so you can become wealthy… and THEY can receive the service you’re offering.

But the vision is yours. You have to hold it, and go look for the right people. That’s it, period.

Every time someone says β€œno” or doesn’t show up for a call β€” all that is saying is they weren’t the right person to begin with. That’s it.

Move on from it, and find those who are right for you.

Dealing with Haters

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

How do you deal with haters? I recently received a scathing email from someone who STRONGLY disagreed with an opinion that I posted to social media. It was blatantly abusive and attacked me personally… so I guess you could say it wasn’t exactly constructive criticism.

My first reaction was fear. My fear of judgment kicked in, and I even had a physical response! Thankfully I was able to get past it and back on track, but how do you deal with these intense, paralyzing fears?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question!

The only way to β€œdeal” with fear is to shine a light on it so that you can see that it’s a lie and then continue onward in spite of the feelings.

I know you’ve heard me say this before, but Spirit does not speak to you through fear, so anytime you feel that fear and hear those fearful voices in your head, you must stop and ask yourself whose voices those are.

Let’s go back to TRUTH. (My favorite place)

Fear is simply your ego’s way of stopping you from growing. And the fear was given to you by someone else, usually a parent or someone who had a significant role in your life.

The next time you feel fear, try identifying whose voice is talking to you because it will not be God’s.

So let’s go back to the first question you asked: How do you deal with haters?

My answer is that you don’t. You must have compassion and understand that people who send hateful and hurtful messages are actually people who are hateful and hurting inside. Their response is projection and has everything to do with them and nothing to do with you.

You aren’t responsible for someone else’s thoughts, feelings and emotions; you are only responsible for your OWN.

Kudos to you for recognizing that it triggered your fear of judgment. If you focus your attention on why you have a fear of judgment in the first place, and let the negative feedback go, the truth will set you free.

And always remember:

There is no growth without discomfort, and it sounds like you’re GROWING!!!

I Literally Shrink

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Calle.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

Last weekend I attended a 4th of July party, and while I was there, several prominent business owners (who I look up to) arrived.

I immediately shut down and avoided any and all eye contact and conversation with these people.

It was CRAZY.

I literally saw myself get smaller, quieter and more invisible the longer I was there. Eventually I left without saying anything to anyone.

Do you have any suggestions that might help me from repeating this the next time this happens?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Calle,

The key to recognize that your thoughts and actions are coming from a place of your core wound…

You β€œdisappeared” because of a core wound that says you’re not good enough.

And that is a lie.

So, the next time you’re in a similar situation, I want you to pay VERY close attention to the voices in your head.

As soon as they start to tell you you’re not good enough, smart enough, successful enough, confident enough, etc… I want you to say β€œNEXT”, and immediately start thinking of all the things you LOVE about yourself.

And then walk right up to the person, extend your hand with a smile and introduce yourself.

Here’s the kicker… it’s not going to feel comfortable. It might even feel like the scariest thing you’ve ever done.

DO IT ANYWAY.

You need to be disciplined with this…do NOT let your emotions take control of your actions.

The more you step through this fear, the more confidence you’ll gain.

And on Tuesday, I’m hosting a fantastic free training on how to SILENCE the mental chatter going on in your mind…you might want to think about joining me. Β CLICK HERE for the details.

The Fear of Success is a Smoke Screen

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

Can you please tell me how to get over the fear of success? I believe it’s what’s continually stopping me from hitting my goals!

Thank you so much!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for your question!

The truth is that no one is actually afraid of success. You fail every day.

That’s a false belief created by our ego.

If you were afraid of success, you’d never put your pants on in the morning because even putting your pants on is a success.

In reality, what people ARE afraid of is:

1) The fear of what they believe they will have to sacrifice to be successful. This is mainly true in regard to relationships. Are you afraid someone will leave?

2) The fear of what people will think if they were successful or wealthy. How would your family respond if you stood up and told them you decided to be insanely wealthy?

3) The fear of what people will think if they fail.

These are the top 3, but of course there are many other beliefs that keep us bound in chains and constantly striving for success yet never achieving it.

So you are correct.

You are sabotaging
your success.

Universal truth states that we create everything; all the good and bad, all the successes and all the failures.

So you need to get very clear on how never achieving the success you want keeps you safe.

I know you’re thinking, β€œNo David, not having the success keeps me feeling unsafe, why would I not want success?”

And I would answer that you have to consider what belief is renting space in your brain, because if you wanted success as much as you wanted air to breath, you would have it.
