Dealing with Haters

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

How do you deal with haters? I recently received a scathing email from someone who STRONGLY disagreed with an opinion that I posted to social media. It was blatantly abusive and attacked me personally… so I guess you could say it wasn’t exactly constructive criticism.

My first reaction was fear. My fear of judgment kicked in, and I even had a physical response! Thankfully I was able to get past it and back on track, but how do you deal with these intense, paralyzing fears?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question!

The only way to “deal” with fear is to shine a light on it so that you can see that it’s a lie and then continue onward in spite of the feelings.

I know you’ve heard me say this before, but Spirit does not speak to you through fear, so anytime you feel that fear and hear those fearful voices in your head, you must stop and ask yourself whose voices those are.

Let’s go back to TRUTH. (My favorite place)

Fear is simply your ego’s way of stopping you from growing. And the fear was given to you by someone else, usually a parent or someone who had a significant role in your life.

The next time you feel fear, try identifying whose voice is talking to you because it will not be God’s.

So let’s go back to the first question you asked: How do you deal with haters?

My answer is that you don’t. You must have compassion and understand that people who send hateful and hurtful messages are actually people who are hateful and hurting inside. Their response is projection and has everything to do with them and nothing to do with you.

You aren’t responsible for someone else’s thoughts, feelings and emotions; you are only responsible for your OWN.

Kudos to you for recognizing that it triggered your fear of judgment. If you focus your attention on why you have a fear of judgment in the first place, and let the negative feedback go, the truth will set you free.

And always remember:

There is no growth without discomfort, and it sounds like you’re GROWING!!!

The Power of Pause

The Power of Pause

Nothing in nature plays small

An oak tree, in the right conditions, will grow to be the biggest, best oak tree it can be.

A rose, in the right conditions, will grow to be the most beautiful rose it can be.

Yet, people
constantly
play small.

We are the only species on the entire planet that gets in the way of our own purpose.

Why is that?

I think that Tim Grover, in his book, Relentless, put it best when he said, “We’re born bad, and we’re taught to be good.” I think that it is right on, and the next 4 articles will unpack exactly what this means.

For starters, we all come into this world with this relentless urge to grow, to succeed, and be everything we were put here to be. Grover calls that “being born bad”.

Then, we learn to relent to the rules, beliefs and values of our family. Grover calls this “learning to be good.”

In that mindset, we’re taught only to be safe, to be secure, to fit into the community. The problem is, this is not what we were born to do and it is not within our nature.

Naturally, we have all these desires to fulfill, to play big instead of small, and be the best we can be. I don’t mean that in relation to anybody else—your focus should not be comparison. What matters is that you do the best you can to achieve your own unique purpose.

How do you move forward? Luckily, the universe is designed in such a way that you will naturally grow to fulfill your purpose, if you allow yourself. So, the first step is to uncover exactly what it is that’s holding you back, which I cover in my next two articles.

Until then, really think about all the instances in which you do something because of the fear of how someone else will react.

Before you make ANY decisions, pause and ask yourself, “Is this something I really want to be, do or have?”  If it’s not, SAY NO!

Until next week…

Do you charge for your time?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Gary V.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I’ve done what you recommend. I’ve tried to work from my vision and set my financial goals. I have my number, and I know what that money would be used for…and what I will provide in exchange for that money. Here’s my issue: I cannot stop thinking about time. In my line of work, people generally pay for time rather than a result. And the truth is, people aren’t paying me for time, they ARE paying for a result. I also see others in my industry who are making a lot of money by NOT charging for their time, so I know this is a barrier in my own mind.

How do I shift this???

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Gary!

Thanks for the great question. Making the switch from charging by the hour to charging for a specific result is really challenging for a lot of small business owners and service providers.

It requires them to not only step out of the “norm”; it requires them to really

OWN
THEIR
WORTH.

And I have a hunch this is what you’re struggling with.

Here’s the truth… exchanging time for money is a middle class value.

A VERY high percentage.

But if you’re in a business that sells results, it makes NO sense to charge by the hour.

There are a several things that are required to shift this:

1) You need to make a firm decision that you are changing your pricing structure.

2) You need to be committed and disciplined that no matter what, you will not offer your hourly rate to ANYONE

3) You need to focus your marketing efforts on the “right” prospects and clients.

4) You need to hone your sales skill so that you can accurately convey the value of the result you are going to provide.

Just a word of caution here.

Your mind will try to convince you of ALL the reason this won’t work.

And it’s a lie.

It will work if you will step into your worth and demand your success.

Do not waffle. Stay firm in your pricing.

And you’ll be surprised how fast your bank account will grow.

Comfort zone, Dead zone

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David, and thanks for taking my question!

My problem is that I think I'm too comfortable. I believe I have a deep desire to build my own business, but it seems I stop before I even start. I spend my time “thinking” rather than “doing”. And I think it's important to mention that I don't NEED to bring in money. I do WANT to though…

Neagle Code Answer

Hi!

The truth in your situation is that you just don't want it bad enough.

You're content to stay where you are, and there's nothing really that's creating a sense of urgency for you.

In these instances,
YOU have to create
the sense of urgency.

Let me explain…

Until your burning desire is greater than your need for comfort, nothing will change.

Growth is uncomfortable. Without the discomfort we don't grow. And if you're not growing, it's going to be near impossible to help someone else grow.

Ask yourself:

What in your life is keeping you comfortable?

  • Is it a job you show up to everyday?
  • Is it your savings account?
  • Is it your safe group of people around you?

What specifically do you fall back on as that safety net?

In order for you to move past this, you have to identify that safety net and burn it.

Then you have to fall deeply, madly and 100% in love with your desires.

You see, the juice of life lies beyond your comfort zone…

As we grow and expand, we can then enrich the lives of others.

Help! I’ve been plagued by low sales for months

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I have been plagued by the same challenge for several months now…low sales. It’s to the point where I need to start cutting back on my spending, which feels constricting and based in lack.

The biggest problem: I can’t figure out how to overcome this challenge, and it is SO frustrating…what is going on?

Thanks so much!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for your question.

First let’s look at what challenges in our lives and businesses REALLY are…

1) They are necessary for growth.
2) They hold hidden lessons that we need to learn about ourselves.
3) They are neither good or bad…they just “are”.

Webster’s Dictionary defines a challenge as: a stimulating task or problem.

But here’s what I want you to see:

You are experiencing this challenge because there is something that you need to learn about yourself, and the challenge keeps recurring because you are resisting learning what the challenge itself is trying to get you to see.

Each challenge we are faced with has a hidden message…

a hidden lesson that we need to learn
in order to become the person we
need to become to fulfill our purpose.

If you find yourself with the same challenge over and over, you need to take a deep look into what you may be resisting hearing, seeing, doing or being, that is keeping that challenge in your life.

In this instance, you may be resisting:

• the sales conversation
• reaching out to prospects
• being seen
• rejection

The list could go on.

Look deep into your challenge to identify what you may be resisting and reach out for help if you still can’t identify the resistance.

Want to grow your business? First grow yourself

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Pam.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

My question is this. Do you help retail businesses? Does your message work for every business? I want to attend your seminar, but I always talk myself out of it because I'm not a coach, etc. In your opinion, is this just an excuse or can you help someone like me?

Thanks, Pam

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Pam!

First off, I don’t think your question is an excuse.

In fact I think it’s a perfectly legitimate question to ask when making this decision, and I’m thrilled you sent it in to me!

What I’m teaching currently is about becoming a center of influence in your own life as well as the lives of others, and then using specific strategies and lines of questioning to help someone else make a decision.

This is important in ALL business, whether you’re a coach, a CEO, a retailer, a sales person, or a virtual small business owner.

Let me give you an example:

If you are a retailer looking to grow your own business, you must first grow yourself. You must first learn how to influence yourself to do the things that need to be done to grow your business.

After all, your business is your responsibility and only limited by you, right?

Once you begin to be an influence in your own life, you’ll then be able to be an influence in the lives of others, which is why my upcoming training starts there.

In your case, you must be an influencer or leader in the lives of your employees and your customers as well.

And here’s the kicker…you can’t influence people by “telling” them anything. True influence really occurs when you ask questions that lead your employee or customer to make a decision or come to an awareness all on their own.

So I then walk you step by step through my blueprint and give you the exact questions to ask and words to say that will have an impact on whoever is considering your product or service.

I don’t care if you’re selling services or widgets, this skill is essential to the growth of ANY business.

Therefore, all of my scripts, scenarios, strategies and tools can be adapted to any business.

If you have additional business specific questions, PLEASE feel free to give my team a call at 877-776-6364. They’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have!

Looking forward to meeting you in person!

Are you afraid, lazy or just too comfortable?

comes from Richard.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David and thanks for taking my question!

My problem is that I’m comfortable. I have deep desires to build a business that helps others, but I can’t seem to change the things I need to change or do the things I know I need to do to get myself going in the right direction. Are successful people really selfish?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions
for Life”
comes from Alex.

Neagle Code Question

Dear David,

I have been passionate about building my business. I invest, I work hard, and do my best to provide for my family. I feel I’m generous with money, and yet I still overhear people in my inner circle calling me selfish.

I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. Am I really selfish to want to build a successful business?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Alex.

The short answer is:

No, you’re not selfish.

Let me explain.

The definition of selfish is to force others to live the life you want to live. Unless you’re taking away someone else’s right to choose, you’re not being selfish by building your own business.

What’s really happening is this:

When you change and grow, you force the people in your life to adapt to your changes. Your growth highlights where they are not growing and makes them very uncomfortable.

This in turn translates to one of two things.

Either they support your growth.

OR

They don’t support your growth.

It sounds like the people in your life who are calling you selfish are uncomfortable with your growth and passion.

You may want to re-evaluate your relationship with them, accept them for who THEY are, and make a choice based on what you want for your life.

It’s not a myth that you are a product of the 5 closest people in your life.

Choose wisely.

Call me a hypocrite?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions
for Life”
comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hello David,

I started integrating personal growth coaching in my web development business for my current clients. Since then my business partner calls me a hypocrite and I am starting to feel like I am since I stumble and fail numerous times. I feel like I am not practicing what I preach. Should I still continue guiding people when I can’t even guide myself 100% of the time?

Neagle Code Answer

Thank you for this great question.

First of all, I applaud you for taking action towards creating something that sounds like you really desire in your business.

Creating a business requires personal growth in order to truly be successful. Each area of our lives has an impact on our business. The way we do something is often the way we do everything in life. Therefore, supporting your clients with personal growth could be a great service for them.

To teach something well, you must have experienced it yourself. In order for you to be in integrity, you must practice and believe in what you are teaching your clients.

When it comes to other people, the truth is that no one can ever say anything to you that you don’t already say to yourself in some way. Subconsciously, you may not fully believe in yourself, which is why your business partner has been calling it out.

Be gentle with yourself. You don’t have to be perfect.

If you were perfect all the time, you wouldn’t grow.

Reframe every opportunity that you perceive as a “failure” as a golden opportunity to learn something new.

The more you learn and grow from all of your own experiences, the more you will be able to serve your clients because you will have gone through it and come out on the other side.

When you are in a growing experience, ask yourself: “Is there something I don’t understand about this situation? Why did I create this? How is this serving me? What can I learn from this experience?”

Keep moving forward and start believing in yourself. Look at your life as a classroom for your own growth that you can then use to teach from.
