How do I know my resistance isn’t a good thing?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Sherry Rothwell.  You can find her on the web at http://www.DomesticDiva.ca.

Question:

I really enjoyed your answer in your blog post “Are You A Puppet”.
It leaves me with the question: How do you know the difference between when resistance is because something isn't right for you vs. resistance because you REALLY need to do it to take yourself to the next level?

Thanks so much David- you are lovely and I really appreciate your work!

Answer:

What a fantastic question, Sherry!

I think it would help if we used a specific example here, and because so many entrepreneurs resist sales, let's use that as the example.

First things first. When you decide to do anything in your business it is important to ask the question,

“Is this taking me closer to my goal, or further away?”

We know that the lifeblood of any business is really sales. If you don't have sales you don't have a business.

Making sales calls WILL bring you closer to your goal, if your goal is to build your business.

Yet many people will tell me that they are not sales people; that it's just not in their personality.

And it's a big lie. They are resisting doing the thing that will grow their business because of fear.

The crazy thing is that many people won't even try. To really understand if something is not for you, you have to do it long enough to determine if it's not for you.

Herein lies the difference between knowing if something is not right for you or if you're resisting something.

I'm sure you've all heard the phrase, “You won't know if you like it until you try it.” There's a lot of truth to that statement.

If you're wondering if you're resisting something, get very honest with yourself. Determine if doing it will bring you closer to your goal, and if it will, DO IT!

How to find meaning in painful experiences…

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Amanda R.

Question:

A year ago I lost everything. Financially I was close to bankruptcy and my husband asked for a divorce. It was a dark time for me. Since then I've been trying to find meaning to help me see why I attracted those painful experiences in my life. Can you help?

Answer:

Hi Amanda.

Sometimes is pretty tough to find meaning in painful situations.

And honestly you may never really know why something happens, which is why I always turn to the truth in situations like that.

The truth says that the thing you need to overcome is the lesson you need to learn to be the greatest you in your life.

This lesson is part of your destiny. You wouldn't experience it if it weren't there to help you grow and heal.

Things happen not to hurt you but to heal you.

So take a moment and look back at your life. How were you different then compared to now?

Are you stronger?

More self-assured?

More independent?

Have those experiences opened doors that wouldn't have opened before?

You see, your soul created those experiences for a reason, and that reason is for you to GROW.

So be very careful of falling into a victim mentality, instead be grateful for the experience as it is helping shape who you are growing to become.

Celebrate it!

Ego venom slows, disorients & blinds

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

David, I've heard you mention the role the ego plays in stopping you from manifesting. How do I identify if my ego is trying to stop me?

Answer:

Hi and thanks for your question.

Your ego's sole job is to keep you exactly where you are. Your ego perceives any growth or change as a threat to your survival, and it will immediately begin to bring up fears to control your decision making.

And your ego can be very tricky!

Let me give you an example…

The truth states that if you have a desire, the way to fulfill that desire is already present. Therefore, if you feel a deep desire for something, that desire is coming from Spirit. It's a message being sent to you to help foster your growth and keep you on the path to increased consciousness.

The next thing that happens is your ego recognizes this desire as a threat, and immediately gives you many reasons why you shouldn't take action to achieve your desire. Some reasons your ego will use are:

  • it's not the right time
  • you don't want to travel
  • you don't have enough money
  • you don't deserve it
  • people will laugh at you
  • you will fail and everyone will find out

Because your ego is strong, you believe these excuses, and you stifle your own growth.

You believe the lies your ego is telling you.

So let's go back to the truth.

Spirit does not speak to you through fear. Period.

I'm sure you've heard me teach about manifestation. But let me just remind you that manifestation simply means “becoming aware of what already exists”. To simplify it, you can't want something without it already being present.

And your ego doesn't want you to take action toward your desire because in taking action you grow.

What does romance have to do with my success?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

How does a relationship affect our ability to manifest our dreams? Thanks!

Answer:

If you’re asking the question, you may want to consider that you already know the answer.

If you find yourself making decisions or stopping yourself for fear of what someone else will think or say, then you really need to take a close look at that relationship.

And I think it’s important to for you to understand that no one can hold you down, unless you allow yourself to be held down.

In any healthy relationship, both people should have the room and freedom that they need to foster their own growth. You have a responsibility to yourself to pursue your dreams, and if they don’t agree; they have the option to leave the relationship.

As Vernon Howard so eloquently states, “Behave the way you really are, even if it ends a relationship. Never suppress yourself in an effort to influence, hold, or win someone. When we are unreal, so are our rewards. To say this in another way, never behave the way you think the other person wants you to behave, but in the manner you must. Nothing you really need to do or have ever requires a yielding to a person or custom.”

So to answer your question…

Chances are, if you’re wondering if a relationship is right for you, something has given you the thought that it may not be.

Your relationships will only affect your ability to manifest if you’re not true to yourself.

Mother’s Day is tomorrow, and I know many entrepreneurs who have difficult relationships with their mothers. Take time tomorrow to give gratitude for your mother. Some of the most difficult people we have in our lives are our greatest teachers.

Remember, other people in our lives will mirror us. And in that mirroring is the opportunity for growth.

Does fear steal your joy?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Jenny Shain. You can learn more on the web at http://redeemingyourdreams.com/

Question:

Is it possible to live without fear or reduce it drastically so that you face challenges with happiness & without anxiety?

Answer:

Hi and thanks for the question.

The definition of fear is: a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.

Fear is an emotion, just like happiness, sadness, joy, or anger. Because fear is an emotion, you can choose whether or not you're going to allow yourself to be overcome by it.

Let me explain…

Typically entrepreneurs feel fear when they are faced with their own growth or when they know they must change. They feel this fear because their ego is programmed to view these opportunities for growth or change as a threat, and therefore you feel fear to keep you from growing and being “at risk”.

The important thing to note in the definition is that it says the emotion is triggered whether the threat is real or IMAGINED.

Most of the time the fear that we feel is not real.

Now don't get me wrong, if someone is dangling you off of the Empire State Building by your ankles, the fear that you're feeling is VERY real. But the fear you're referring to in your question above is the fear of making a mistake, the fear of what others will think, the fear of not being able to pay your bills, or the fear of failing.

This is the kind of fear that is a LIE.

Here are a few truths that will help you put fear in its place so that you're not controlled by it.

1) Spirit will never speak to you through fear.

2) When you begin to feel fear, CHOOSE to focus only on the solution or the positive in the situation, and the fear will subside.

3) Always remember that fear is a lie, so if you see yourself getting sucked into that dark place, remind yourself that it's not real and ask yourself why you're allowing it to control you. How is it serving you to be paralyzed by fear? You are the creator of your reality, thus the fear is created between your own ears.

4) The only way to neutralize the fear is to step through it. Fighting it or resisting it only gives it energy. For example: If you're feeling fear about making a sales call, MAKE THE CALL and the fear will disappear.

As you continue to change, adapt and grow, you'll become more skilled at recognizing fear for what it really is, and this will allow you to get more comfortable being uncomfortable.

Are you trying to attract support?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

How do I find dependable, reliable people when building a team especially when they don't return calls or show up?

Answer:

Fantastic question!

First, you need to remember that you create your reality. So let's try to pinpoint what's going on here.

I need you to answer a few questions, and it's REALLY important that you take some time with these questions and allow yourself to be honest.

Question #1: Do you really want a team?

Are you willing to give up certain aspects of your business and TRUST that someone else can do them?

The reason I ask this question is because a lot of entrepreneurs say they want a team, and yet, they are afraid of establishing a team and delegating at the same time. They'll say that they want someone to help them, and yet they don't want to give up the reins or simply don't trust others to do what they are asked to do.

Over and over I've heard entrepreneurs say, “If I want it done right, I might as well just do it myself.” That kind of thinking is based in lack, and will never allow you to attract effective team members.

You're really sending mixed messages when your intellect is telling you that a team is needed, but deep down, you're afraid of taking on a team.

Question #2: Do you effectively communicate your expectations to your team?

Believe it or not, team members are not mind readers. If you want something done, you must be able to explain your requirements or vision for the task and give a clear deadline.

Don't forget, communication goes both ways. It's also important for your team members to know that you value their thoughts and opinions as well.

I've seen many teams implode due to lack of communication, and it's really unfortunate (and preventable).

Question #3: Are you getting what you pay for?

When entrepreneurs first begin to think about adding team members, more often than not, they are at a place in their business where they can't really clearly see how they can add a team member and pay them at the same time. They must take a risk in hiring someone to allow for the continued growth of their business.

This is where the problem comes in.

They don't see the new team member as an investment in their company, and they look for the “least expensive help” they can find. They base their hiring on price rather than quality.

Who do you think gets a better return for their money; someone who hires an entry level VA who's not familiar with their business at $25.00 per hour, or someone who hires a VA who's experienced and understands business at $75.00 per hour?

ALWAYS make decisions based on where you want to go rather than where you are right now, or you'll always be stuck right where you are right now.

So, in short, EXPECT to find a team member who identifies with the vision of your company, TRUST them to do the tasks that you effectively communicate to them, and be willing to PAY them for their expertise.

Am I worthy of raising my rates?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous

Question:

How do I convince myself that I’m worthy of increasing my prices and receiving the financial success that I so dearly desire? I think somewhere I have a belief that I don’t deserve financial freedom, because even though I want it, it eludes me.

Answer:

You don’t have to convince yourself of anything. You just have to look at Truth.

The truth is that you are a divine being, created in the likeness of Spirit, God, Allah, or whatever spiritual belief that you subscribe to. You are worthy of everything and anything that you want.

This is TRUTH.

What made Bill Gates or Oprah worthy of their riches? They are the same as you.

Nothing separates you other than your own perceptions and beliefs.

The fact that you are even asking this question shows that somewhere a message got handed to you that you agreed with. The message could have been that you need to work hard for anything in life, or that you weren’t good enough, smart enough, or pretty enough. Your self esteem was damaged, and you vowed that you’d never open yourself up to that vulnerability again.  Questioning worthiness comes from a place of being afraid to be seen or heard for fear of ridicule.

Imagine for a moment what your life would be like if you didn’t care what others thought. If you weren’t worried about making mistakes, looking like a fool, or being humiliated. How would your decision making be different? More importantly, how would your LIFE be different?

I encourage you to make a decision today that you ARE worthy. Don’t “convince” yourself.

Proclaim it.

Stand in your power, say it out loud, and continue to do so until small changes in your thinking and behavior begin to occur. Every morning, look in the mirror, and tell yourself that you’re perfect just the way you are and that NOTHING unworthy of God is worthy of you.

Treat yourself like the King or Queen that you are.

Accept nothing less than what you desire and take action as though you are filled with confidence.

Only then will you see your brilliance in this world and be shown the opportunities in life that will change EVERYTHING.

Because, my friend, THAT is the TRUTH, and Spirit wants you to have all that you desire even more than you than you want it for yourself.

Nothing is working. What am I doing wrong?!

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

Hi David. HELP! I know something isn’t working in my business. I feel like I’m doing everything I can, and nothing is happening. I’m not aware of a mindset block or any fears, and frustration is setting in. How can I part the fog and see what’s going on?

Answer:

Great question but difficult to answer as I don’t know what your unique situation is.

So, let’s dig a little deeper here, and bring in the TRUTH …

TRUTH: We manifest everything in our lives. (Meaning: we are responsible for everything that “happens” in our lives.) From the spectacular, to the unfortunate, to the inconsequential.

So what you are experiencing is something you’ve created because it serves you in some way.

(The beauty about taking 100% responsibility for painting the full picture of your situation, is that by taking responsibility you’re no longer a victim to your situation, but instead have the power to change it in one or in all ways!)

Plus, know this: If you’re not receiving the results you desire, you’re likely creating through the filter of multiple subconscious toxic patterns that are working against your best efforts to CHANGE. And, I accept entirely that you may be completely unaware of the patterns, or of the toxicity, or both.

So, let me ask you some questions, and please sit with them and answer them honestly …

1. Is it possible that you’re playing small so as to not draw attention to yourself, or to “out shine” your friends or family?

2. Are you disorganized, creating distraction, or finding yourself reacting to your day rather than having a plan for your day?

3. Are you hiding bills or investments from your spouse or partner, especially money you are investing for the growth of your business because you’re afraid of rocking the boat?

4. Do you get sucked into negative family paradigms and feel yourself being pulled down?

5. Are you building this business because you’re 100% passionate about making profit doing what you love, or do you care more about serving & assisting others?

6. Do you avoid asking people to pay you, because it feels uncomfortable or wrong?

7. Do you believe that your loved ones support you 110% in your ability to succeed, or do you worry that sooner or later you’ll let them down, or that they’ll become angry with you?

If you can answer yes to any of these questions, you have adopted toxic patterns that only serve to keep you exactly where you are.

The tough part about toxic patterns is that they are very hard to see for yourself. They may be habits that you’ve justified for years, and even created entire stories around. Most times, to release a toxic pattern you have to face something you’ve been trying to avoid for a long time … like being seen, being vulnerable, being a change agent, being the center of attention, or just simply being yourself.

It’s tough … and you’ll very likely need help & support to recognize which specific toxic patterns you’re repeating. But doing THIS WORK pays off in joy, abundance, peace, prosperity & freedom in spades!

Let me share with my belief that I first put into words for our “My Year To Break Free” virtual mentorship program; a program designed to open your eyes to the toxic patterns we’re discussing here. The quote is this:

“There is nothing more important in my life ~ or in my business ~ than my own personal growth as a human being. Truly, nothing is more important to me than shedding any piece of dysfunction that would hinder me from becoming the fullest representation of Spirit’s great intention for me.
Nothing.”

So the next time a situation arises, stop and ask yourself the following question:

“Is this decision, situation or relationship helping me to BE MORE FREE and aligned with Spirit’s great intention for me, or is it causing me to BE held back in bondage?”

If you’re willing to take the congruent action, the truthful answer to this question will always set you free.

And remember: You can’t keep taking the same actions and expect different results. If you truly want to experience a shift, you must start making different decisions, followed by different actions. So, my strong recommendation is that you begin today by making the decision, and taking the steps, to get support uncovering the toxic patterns holding you back. My Year To Break Free is the perfect support & mentorship program for this exact, and our first live call in THIS COMING TUESDAY. I invite you to join me then.

Do it yourself? Are you saving a fortune or is it costing you a fortune?

I recently found myself in a conversation with an individual who asked me why I don't cut my own grass.  He said,

“David, it must cost you a fortune to have your lawn cut. I would never waste money paying someone else to do something I can do myself.”

I asked him if he was on a fixed income, and he replied that he was.  I then asked him,

“How much do you think you could earn if you took all the time you spent on house chores and invested the time in learning how to better yourself and build a business that would earn you money each and every month – whether you worked or not?”

He was silent for a while and then said, “I don't know.  Is it REALLY possible?”  I looked at him and said, “Not only it is possible, but I can show you how to do it.”

The first words out of his mouth after that were, “What is it going to cost me?”

I replied, “A fortune!”  He told me that he suspected it to be pricey, but then I explained how he was filling his entire life with busy work that was costing him the ability to earn his fortune.

Hire others so you can have greater focus on creating the life you want.  Here are some suggestions of the things you should NOT be doing:

Cutting Grass
Doing laundry
Cleaning your house
Washing your car
Grooming your pets
Cooking your meals
Managing your bills
Fixing things around your home and office.
The list goes on and on….

Keep in mind as your income grows, you are creating more jobs for people who really do need them. That's a good thing.  As you grow, you help others do the same thing.  Hiring others to help you succeed adds to the world!

In your business start with VA's (virtual assistants) to help you with all of the weakest (or most problematic) areas of your life.  Save your time and allow yourself to focus on what you do best. Then you can watch your income grow!

Belief, Perception & Reality…

I just had a great conversation with a friend who was telling me about some business associates who have had a complete turn around on their dream.

A few months ago, they were enthusiastic and on fire for their future. Unfortunately, they didn't keep their  mental doors locked and something negative slipped in.

All failure begins this way. People have wonderful hopes for their dreams and goals, and when their circumstances suggest something different, (such as an obstacle or lack of result)  the perceived difference becomes the initial seed of failure.

Being unaware of how this process destroys the dreams of countless people, they fall victim to its seduction.

Take a look at what happens and how this process works:

We all have two parts in our thinking – one is our dream or goal, and the second is the belief that it might not happen. This is where most people start out.

Next, something begins to spark them into moving on the dream, and they take some sort of action for a period of time.

Not having a full understanding of the Laws of Success, they are actually moving in the direction of their dream with a great deal of ignorance. Ignorance is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as a person stays open to what he/she must learn along the way.  The problem is many individuals are not open to growth & change.  They experience a point of failure.

This is the point in their journey where moving forward becomes to painful or fearful, and a person usually chooses to stay safe.  Being unaware of how success works, it is also the point where if a person did move forward, they would begin to see the bigger win they are hoping for.

Your beliefs control your perception of everything in your world, which in turn creates your reality.  If you want to change your reality you must use new information to change your beliefs AND your perception. Until you see things differently, you will continue to makes choices that keep you where you are.  Eventually, you will give up on your dreams.

Hey – in my opinion, if you are not living life on the edge you are taking up too much room.

Have a great week because you deserve it!!
