Common Misconceptions About Being an Entrepreneur

Common Misconceptions About Being an Entrepreneur

There’s been a huge shift in entrepreneurship in the last 50 years — and also in the last 10 to 15 years.

Being an entrepreneur has become the “cool” thing to do. We’ve “celebritized” it in a way.

We see all these different pictures of people with yachts, private jets, driving their new Bugatti, etc… we see reality TV like the Kardashians showing people “living the life.”

But with these shows, we never see what an entrepreneur is actually doing day in and out.

We don’t see the entrepreneur working 18-hour days, trying to pay their bills. We don’t see them borrowing money, trying to keep their company moving forward. We don’t see them rehabbing their new product or service, because customers are returning what they bought.

We don’t see them hiring, firing employees, people quitting or not showing up to work.

We don’t see the personal problems many entrepreneurs have behind the scenes — like their family hasn’t seen them in six months. Or they’re dealing with overwhelm, depression, binge-drinking, or doing drugs.

There’s a lot of negative shit that comes out of being an entrepreneur that people don’t realize.

Some people go into business with some kind of dream or idea about what they want to experience. The dream is unique to each person. But once they get into business, it becomes like a monster taking over. They don’t know how to control it, tame it, or get the monster moving in one direction.

Starting a business can either lead to personal freedom — or your own personal prison.

We need to ask ourselves a variety of questions about what to do when we start a business — so that we don’t end up creating a giant “job” for ourselves that we don’t even like. That’s what turns a business into a prison, rather than freedom.

Many people who start a business should really think about all of this beforehand.

So let me ask you something… if you’re in business, does it give you freedom, or do you feel like a prisoner?

If it feels like a prison, ask yourself what you are resisting being, doing or having that would shift things to provide you more personal freedom.

I totaled my car AND my attitude

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

I recently had a car wreck. My vehicle was totaled, and I’ve been in serious pain.

Although I’m better now… I’ve had a crappy attitude because I’m in chronic pain.

How do I get my business jump-started, despite my poor attitude? I can’t afford coaching or things like that, because I had to replace my car. Can you offer any advice?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question. And I’m sorry you’ve had that trouble.

Here’s the thing… you had a setback in your life. We all have setbacks. And yours is starting to affect your thinking.

It can be very difficult and challenging to keep your attitude in a good place when you’re in pain.

I’m no stranger to pain. After I broke my back years ago when I got sucked through a dam, I was in pain for 30 years. (I’m just now figuring out how to get out of that.)

If I were you, I would find something about this setback to be deeply and profoundly grateful for.

This situation is asking you to pay attention to something. You have to figure out what that is, because it will totally change your life.

Moving forward, the mindset you have is your choice. You get to choose that, and nobody can take that away from you.

After you’ve expressed gratitude… ask yourself, “Why am I working? What do I really want to achieve? What do I want my life to be about?”

Really get a bigger vision for yourself. I think that’s important.

If we don’t have a vision for our life, then we don’t have much of anything… because we’re just showing up, being reactive to everything. Then it’s about survival. It’s about getting through one day to the next. (That can be really important when a person is in so much pain.) You’re just trying to get from one day to the next, because that’s what’s getting your attention the most.

Create a vision for your future. Bring that in close and intimate with yourself. Then create a plan to go after it with everything you’ve got.

The Law of Polarity states that everything has an opposite, and it is equal and opposite. The bigger the setback you have in your life, the bigger the opportunity is for you to move forward. That is an absolute law.

Most people don’t know that. Or they don’t take the time to find out what the opportunity is… because the setback causes so much pain and distress in their life. All they can focus on is how miserable they feel in the moment.

The way to break through this is to become grateful. Find anything to be grateful about.

Ask yourself, “What is the biggest gift in this, that can change my future?”

When the answer shows up, pay attention and move on immediately.

Releasing Resentment

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

I work for myself and am an expert in my line of work. I take lots of action…yet I feel SO resentful because I’m not getting the results I want. I have what I call “hunting fatigue.” Things seem to take forever to materialize. I’m really frustrated.

I saw a blog you did about resentment, and that resonated with me.

How can I get over the resentment?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question!

Many people struggle with this, so you’re not alone.

Let me ask you:

What is your resentment really about?

Whenever you have a situation you feel resentful about… it’s waking up a dormant sense of resentment that’s already in you.

It’s not causing the resentment — it’s stirring up a feeling that’s already there.

The key is to figure out what you’re truly resentful about. Those other things in your life are just triggering that feeling within you.

If you want to change this, you have to want to let the resentment go.

In your core, be honest with yourself and ask, “Am I ready to let this go?”

If the answer is yes… then don’t ever say you’re resentful again. Let this be the last time you say that.

Don’t allow the feeling to be in your life at all.

The only emotion you should be feeling is gratitude.

Be grateful for everything that shows up in your life.

I don’t care how bad it is — everything that shows up in your life is moving you towards being more of who you really are.

Gratitude is the only appropriate emotion for whatever shows up.

All of our negative emotions were handed down to us by other people. We “learned” these emotions by observing how other people responded to different problems in life.

Most of us didn’t see people responding to problems with gratitude. We saw them respond with resentment. Or anger. Or entitlement. Or in a sad way.

…So WE learned to respond in those ways, too.

Every problem in your life is there to show you:

  • another side of yourself
  • a better way to move forward
  • something you’re doing wrong, so you can correct it

When you recognize this truth… the appropriate response is to have gratitude for each “problem” that shows up.

Decide: “This is the way I’m going to live from this day forward — with gratitude for everything.”

YOU are the common denominator in all the problems in your life. If you’re exhausted, then you’re putting too much stress onto it.

All of us are going to have to get up, take a shower, eat, and do all kinds of things… every day for the rest of our lives.

We can either resist doing those things, or we can accept them.

If we accept them — and if we’re grateful for the opportunity to be alive in a wonderful world — then we move through the world in a completely different way.

We were given this God-like ability to make choices. We can create our life any way that we want.

Don’t spend another second in resentment. Be grateful for everything, and if you don’t like something, change it.

The Art of Success – Article #12 – 2 Things That Prevent Continued Success

2 Things That Prevent Continued Success

Do you know the two things preventing you from experiencing continued success in your life?

#1 – Not knowing where you are.

#2 – Not knowing where you’re going.

You may think to yourself, “Come on, Neagle. You’ve got to be kidding me. I know exactly where I am, and where I’m going.”

Do you?

Many people don’t have the slightest idea where they are.

For example, let’s say your goal is to build a successful business. But you have an underlying need for love, security, or self-esteem from other people.

Instead of understanding the TRUTH (which is that you already have these three things inside of you), you’ll be out there trying to GET those things from other people.

Every decision you make, whether it’s to go some place or do something, will be based on the goal of “getting” one of those three things in various different forms of manifestation.

If you have a need for security, then you’ve probably built your entire life around “feeling” secure.

Since everything you do is secretly laced with the underlying need for security, you’ll resist doing the things required to grow your business.

You MUST know where you’re starting from (know yourself and your beliefs). come to you.

Once you begin to understand where you are, you can make shifts inside of yourself, and everything you need will come to you.

(It’s like the old saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” That’s absolutely true.)

The second piece critical to your success is to know where you’re going. You can’t get somewhere without first knowing where you’re going. Otherwise, you’re just wandering aimlessly.

I mean knowing at a deep level where you want to go.

This requires paying close attention to your desires and acting on them.

Desire is the guide that shows you where to go. It offers hints and leave clues.

Once you’ve formed a clear picture of your desired destination, get emotionally involved with it.

Make it real in your mind.

Then take action on it.

Everything you need for the fulfillment of that desire will show itself.

How to create an unshakeable mindset

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Gheeta K.

Neagle Code Question

How do you create an unshakeable mindset?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for the question!

There are two key factors in creating an unshakeable mindset.

One is understanding, and the other is experience.

Allow me to explain.

I am an avid student. One of the really great things my mentor taught me a long time ago was how to study, and to this day I never travel anywhere without my books.

I’m constantly holding my thoughts up to the light of the truth that is found in those books.

In this way, I can consciously understand what’s happening around me.

This is step one of a solid mindset. Study.

The second step is to give yourself a different experience, because you see, experience creates understanding deep in your subconscious.

If you don’t give yourself a different experience, your new understanding doesn’t become part of who you are being.

Let me give you an example.

Sarah is reading about abundance, and she learns that her environment is incredibly important in manifesting her desires. She consciously understands the concepts, and it makes complete sense to her.

She looks around her office and notices that she really needs some organizers and that flowers would really make a difference.

The next time she’s at the store, she sees the most beautiful bouquet of flowers and it stops her.

She really wants the flowers, but doesn’t like the price tag, and even though she feels different energetically around the flowers, she decides to pass them by because she believes they are too expensive.

Sarah has a conscious understanding of the Laws, but she’s not putting those laws into practice, therefore her understanding has not become part of who she is being, and her mindset is not unshakeable.

She desperately wants an abundant life, and yet, she makes her decisions based in lack.

Have faith in the Laws and put them into practice in every area of your life.

It’s the only way to create a rock solid mindset.

How to trust after a betrayal

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Richard.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I have had someone that I trusted embezzle money from me, and I just can’t let it go. I know it’s negatively affecting my business. Any suggestions on how I can move past this and create from a positive place again?

Thanks so much!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Richard!

I know how you feel.

I had something similar happen to me several years ago.

To get through it I had to look to the truth.

And the truth is that we create everything in our life…all the good and all the bad. And we create everything for a reason.

The first step in forgiving your business partner is to take responsibility for your part in it.

Ask yourself: What did this situation have to teach me?

Find the hidden gifts and lessons that you need to see, and be grateful for them.

The second step is to let go of that money knowing that you can put your efforts into creating it again, but this time from a better, more prepared and healthy place.

If you continue to see yourself as a victim of this situation, you will continue to be unforgiving and angry

If you can see this situation from an empowered place, everything will shift and you’ll feel the peace you’re looking for.
