Neagle Code Question

Hi David.

I've heard your teachings on the importance of surrounding yourself with like-minded people. My challenge is that I can't seem to find any like-minded people where I live. Any suggestions for how I can build a community of support, when I feel like I'm on an island?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question! It is very important to your growth that you surround yourself with people that will support you and encourage you as you continue to grow.

Let me start by saying that geography has little to do with this situation. You can be just as alone in a big city as you can be on an island. Surrounding yourself with people that support you shouldnโ€™t be limited to your current city.

You say that you arenโ€™t able to find these people. I would like you to take a moment and look at what you are currently doing.

  • Are you still going to the same social events you have always gone to?
  • Frequenting the same bars, restaurants, sporting events, gyms, etcโ€ฆ?
  • How much time are you spending with your โ€œoldโ€ friends?
  • Do you still shop at the same stores, maybe even still use coupons?

If you are still hanging out in the same old places with the same old people, you will not be able to see new people.

Let go of those old habits and create new experiences in your life. Begin to treat yourself differently by up leveling your experiences. Go to new restaurants, shop at new stores, join a different gym and most importantly – talk to people you meet in these places.

Another great place to meet these people is to go to seminars and conferences where other people who share your same interests gather.

Remember that if you have the desire to meet like-minded people, they already exist and you simply have to be visible.

The biggest lie about list-building

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Victoria Buckman.ย  You can find her on the web at ProgrammedForWealth.com.ย

Question:

I am building my 1:1 coaching business and want to reach more women. What is the best way to grow my list quickly?

Answer:

Great question.

First I want to make sure you understand that growing your list quickly is not always the smartest way to build your coaching business.

You really want to grow your list with qualified people who are really interested in what you do.

There are many ways out there currently that promise to build your list quickly, but building a smaller more qualified list is the secret to increasing your income.

It's the difference between building a house out of straw versus building a house of brick.

Quality is the key.

It's always better to have a smaller list of people who are engaged and buying, then a large list of people who rarely open your newsletter.

All that being said, the single most effective way to build a quality list right now is to GET OUT!

Get out of your house, get out from behind your computer and talk to people.

Sponsor events, attend events, speak, create your own workshops or events no matter how small, and start getting your name out there.

Talk to people at the grocery store, gas station and mall. Shake their hand and look them in the eye.

Think of places your target market would frequent and put yourself there.

The more people you meet face to face, the more impact you'll have.

And when those people receive your newsletter, they will read it, because they know you.

You've already had a personal impact on them, and they'll WANT to know what you're offering next!

Use biz cards? Shred ’em!

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Anna.

Question:

Hi David,
I find myself obsessing over business card and website design for my local service business, and nothing I produce ever satisfies me. I am at the point where I'd be happier just forgetting about those marketing tools completely. I'd rather approach prospects face-to-face and rely on my personality and positive energy instead. Do you think it's a mistake for me to not have business cards and a website?
Thank you for your time!

Answer:

Hi and thanks for your question!

You know, I NEVER carry business cards and I tell all my students to do the same.

When networking, if someone asks for your card, tell them that you don't carry cards, but you'd be happy to take one of theirs and follow up with them. Take their card and write notes on the back so you can remember the conversation you had.

That way YOU are in control of the follow up.

Last year my website was down for almost a year, and my company GREW!

Actually it was my best year yet.

Most marketers will tell you that you MUST have a website. I disagree.

NOTHING can take the place of a personalized person-to-person approach to sales.

In fact, in this market, it's been the single most IMPORTANT thing my company has done.

Don't get me wrong, a website has a purpose, but if your most pressing need is sales and income, a website is not going to get you closer to that goal. Your ability to reach out to someone, have an effective conversation, and close a sale WILL.

My advice would be to prioritize.

First, bring in the sales through one on one conversations, and when you have the capital, build a website that focuses on collecting opt-ins to build your marketing list.
