An Exercise to Conquer Fear

An Exercise to Conquer Fear

Do you let fear stop you from taking action on creating the life of your dreams?

If so, here’s an exercise for you.

Take out a blank sheet of paper. Write down all the things you haven’t done in your life because of fear.

And understand this:

In order for fear to get you to say “no,” it has to get your agreement.

Don’t ever forget this. If you can remember this for the rest of your life, it will allow you to do something most people never do — to step out of the fear briefly, and analyze your decision from a place of TRUTH.

If fear is stopping you…ask yourself, “What am I agreeing with in my fear?”

Is it that you can’t do it? That something will go wrong? That you’ll make a mistake?

All the reasons why you “can’t” do something are wrapped up in your fear.

…That’s how fear stops every person. That’s the only way fear can stop you…

It gets you to agree with something that’s not true.

So…what do you agree with?

Human beings are only born with two fears — the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. Our two-million-year-old brain has a mechanism designed to stop us from doing things that might kill us.

But today, once you grow up, fear is not something that should even be part of your life.

Why? Because you have the ability to choose.

Many people live in fear of all kinds. Maybe they have fear in their relationship, fear in their finances, fear in their health, fear in where they live…

But we have the ability to choose.

If we’re actually in some kind of danger, we can choose to move ourselves out of that danger. So there’s no reason to live in fear.

When fear stops you from doing something — just pause and ask yourself, “What am I agreeing with, in order for this fear to stop me?

You’re agreeing with something.

For most people, it’s subconscious. They’re not even sure what they’re agreeing with, because they’ve never asked themselves this question before.

All they experience is the emotion — a bad feeling.

All they see are things in their environment that represent “why I can’t do this thing I want to do.”

They agree with it, and they stop right there.

Then there’s no forward movement.

Overcome the Fear of Rejection

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

I was working with your question of, “What am I resisting?” and I’ve come to realize that I’m resisting being rejected in my work/business. If someone tells me “No,” it feels like I just want to give up. It touches on the idea that I’m not good enough.

No one has even told me straight up, “No.” I’m just scared of the idea of them telling me no.

How do I build and strengthen my self-worth?

Neagle Code Answer

Understand this:

When you’re in that fear of rejection, you’re not thinking about how you could help the other person. You’re thinking about preserving yourself.

When someone rejects you, it has nothing to do with you.

It doesn’t matter what they’re rejecting you about, either. It has to do with whatever is going on inside of them that’s causing them to say no.

When we’re in business, and we’re offering something that would benefit others — whether it’s a product or service — and they need that product or service, and they’re saying no…what they’re really doing is denying themselves of some kind of benefit or improvement in their life. They’re scared to move forward.

It has nothing to do with you.

Who rejected you when you were a child? Your mom or your dad?

Every time somebody tells you “no,” it’s like having both of your parents reject you. It’s like having them say you’re not good enough, and “We don’t love you.”

…That’s what your subconscious mind hears.

Here’s the absolute truth. Brace yourself…

It doesn’t matter if your parents loved you or not. Because you’re an adult now, and your responsibility is to love yourself.

When you allow yourself to be the way you’re being right now, you’re saying, “I don’t love myself enough to not need it from someone else.”

Here’s an exercise:

Every day, identify three things you appreciate about yourself.

…And this is very important. You’ve got to get rid of the anger you have for your parents. You’re never going to be able to fully love yourself until you do.

You can’t will it away. The anger needs to be expressed. You’ve got to get it out of your body.

Sit down and write a letter to your parents. You’re not going to give it to them — but tell them how angry you are at what they did (or didn’t do), and how they weren’t there for you.

Allow yourself to feel all that emotion.

Next, find three things every day that you appreciate about yourself. Start focusing on the things you love in life.

You have to save yourself. Nobody’s coming to save you. I’m sorry they didn’t come when you were six…but you’re not six anymore.

You have to let it go.

Lost in my own business

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

I have my own business. After years of struggling, I’ve been able to live off my work, but never in a sustainable, recurrent way. I’m burned out. This year has been terrible. I feel like not doing anything anymore, and I’m lost. I have an email list, but they’re not very responsive.

I’m in a position where I need to bring in money… and I’m stuck. My mind keeps thinking, “How do I bring in money?” I get paralyzed in analysis.

What can I do, or launch, to turn this around?

Neagle Code Answer

The best thing you can do… is to do the thing that touches your heart the most.

Don’t think about the money. Don’t think about the fear. Instead, do the thing that brings you the most joy.

Doing the thing that brings you joy will bring the highest level of service to other people. AND it will bring you money.

…But nothing will happen if you just sit there in your fear all day.

It’s time to get serious. It’s time to say to yourself, “Listen, I’m not going to tolerate this fear running my life anymore. I’m better than this. I can make a difference in people’s lives.”

You have to make a difference in your own life first. THEN you can make a difference in other people’s lives.

…But you owe it to yourself to do what makes you happy.

A Fork in the Road

A Fork in the Road

Nothing happens in the universe by chance.

There’s a purpose for every single thing you experience in your life… whether you’re aware of it or not.

In a very real sense, we’re constantly coming to a “crossroads” with each opportunity we experience.

At any moment, you are faced with a choice: stay where you are… or do something to change your experience.

Each time we’re faced with a decision… we’re also being called to step into “faith.”

We either have faith in moving in the direction we want to go in…

Or we have faith in the fear that’s holding us back.

If we have faith in the fear, then we stay stuck. We stay right where we are.

Think about a decision you’re trying to make in your life. What is that decision?

Whatever it is… faith is coming in at this specific time, for a very specific reason in your life.

You cannot break through the fear that’s stopping you without the power of faith.

Faith allows you to keep moving forward, even though fear is present in your life.

I’m not talking about an ordinary faith… but a faith with deep understanding.

That’s really the key to freedom.

I find that as a person begins to understand the truth behind everything they’re experiencing… their life starts to change in that moment.

As you read this now, you’re at a crossroads in your life. You’ve been given the gift of making a conscious choice.

(A conscious choice happens when you’re aware that you’re choosing… and you’re not just choosing based out of a reaction.)

People are always making choices… but they’re often choosing between two things they don’t want.

They’re not thinking to themselves, “If I could do ANYTHING, have anything, and be anything — then THIS is the direction I would take.”

What choice is in front of you right now?

Are you going to stay the same or are you going to make a choice to step into your purpose?

Choose wisely.

How to Move Past Fear and Procrastination

How to Move Past Fear and Procrastination

HI! David here…

Have you ever felt the devastating power of fear and anxiety in your own life?

(If the word “fear” doesn’t resonate with you, you can replace it with “procrastination” or “complacency.”)

Think about something you want to do. Whatever it is, you’ve probably wanted to do it for a long time.

But fear (or procrastination) stops you…

It keeps you bound to a limited life you don’t deserve.

It keeps you totally stuck… as if you’re paralyzed.
You want to move forward, but you can’t move at all.

The fear (or procrastination) causes you to not take consistent, confident action towards everything that you want to achieve.

Have you ever experienced that?

If so, then you probably have faith in the wrong things. Your faith is being misdirected… like lightning that is not being properly channeled.

Right now, you have more faith in the FEAR (or anxiety or procrastination) than you do in your vision for what you want.

You see… everybody already has some measure of faith.

We all use “faith” every single day. (We couldn’t get through life without it.)

It takes a measure of faith for you to cross the street.

It takes faith for you to write a check or charge a purchase to your credit card (you’re trusting that the money, or the credit will be there).

It takes faith for you to go out on a date with someone, or get married. (You don’t know what will happen. You’re trusting that something good will happen.)

No matter what you do in life — take a new job, start a business, or create something — you’re using a certain measure of faith.

You don’t know how the action will turn out, but on some level you’re trusting that it will work.

That’s faith.

Here’s the problem:

Most of the “faith” we have is based on the “knowledge” we’ve been stockpiling our whole life. That knowledge comes from all the experiences we’ve had up until now.

All of that has created a certain level of faith that you’ve been following on a regular basis.

If you want to get to a place where fear, anxiety, and procrastination no longer control your thinking, actions, and results… then you’ve got to build a new kind of faith, one based on deep understanding of universal truths.

So, tell me, what do you have faith in?

Without faith there is no vision

Without faith there is no vision

Often when I teach, I refer to writings from different authors and religions that I’ve studied over the years.

Whenever I do that, I always ask that if I’m quoting something that’s not based on your particular religion — or which doesn’t reflect your understanding of God — then I encourage you to replace whatever terminology I’m using with words you’re comfortable with.

For example, if I say the word “God” and you don’t like that term…replace it with “spirit,” “universe,” “energy,” “the divine,” or whatever word you prefer.

The idea is not for us get blocked or hung up over a particular word…because that prevents us from understanding the deep truth of something.

Instead we need to figure out a way to allow ourselves to hear the higher truth of something — even if the words aren’t what we prefer.

It doesn’t matter to me what religion a person practices, or doesn’t practice.

My intention is to teach people to use universal truths in order to make their life exactly how they want it to be, and to help them fulfill their purpose.

Having said that…here’s a quote I want to share from Proverbs 29:18:

”Where there is no vision, the people will perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

“Vision” means an image you hold in your mind of something you want to create or experience.

“The law” means “universal truths.” (Some people refer to this as “God’s law” or “God’s word.” Again, use whatever terminology you’re comfortable with.)

Without faith (in the laws or universal truths or “God’s word”), you cannot have future visions for yourself.

Without faith, you’ll only have the same vision you’ve previously had (usually a vision that was given to you by someone else)…and which you’ve been following all your life.

When you create a new vision for yourself, you must have faith in it…or it won’t come to fruition.

Faith gives you a vision beyond what you’re currently experiencing.

It lets you believe in something that doesn’t exist yet (i.e, the vision or goal).

In order to go from where you are now…to somewhere that’s absolutely extraordinary…you’ll have to overcome any fear that goes along with that (including any procrastination or complacency).

This requires a different kind of faith — a faith based in deep understanding of universal truths.

Without faith, success is impossible.

How do you deal with hate mail?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Michele.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

How do you deal with hate email? I recently received an email from someone “DEMANDING” to be taken off my list. I didn’t put her on there, she opted in…and yet, her email was incredibly angry and on the verge of “abusive”.

My first reaction was that my fear of judgment kicked in and I felt horrible — and then had a physical response! Thankfully I was able to get past it and back on track, but how do you deal with these intense, paralyzing fears?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question!

The only way to “deal” with fear is to shine a light on it so that you can see that it’s a lie and then continue onward in spite of the feelings.

I know you’ve heard me say this before, but Spirit does not speak to you through fear, so anytime you feel that fear and hear those fearful voices in your head, you must stop and ask yourself whose voices those are.

Let’s go back to TRUTH. (My favorite place)

Fear is simply your ego’s way of stopping you from growing. And the fear was given to you by someone else, usually a parent or someone who had a significant role in your life.

The next time you feel fear, try identifying whose voice is talking to you because it will not be God’s.

So let’s go back to the first question you asked: How do you deal with hate mail?

My answer is that you don’t. You must understand that hate mail has everything to do with the person sending it and nothing to do with you.

You aren’t responsible for someone else’s thoughts, feelings and emotions; you are only responsible for your OWN.

Kudos to you for recognizing that it triggered your fear of judgment. If you focus your attention on why you have a fear of judgment in the first place, and let the hate mail go, the truth will set you free.

And always remember:

There is no growth without discomfort and it sounds like you’re GROWING!!!

How to set small goals to overcome fear

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I know what I have to do to grow my business, but every time I get the courage to pick up the phone and reach out to someone, fear stops me and I end up allowing myself to get distracted. I can think of every excuse in the book NOT to make a call. I don’t know what to do to overcome this. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for your question.

Here’s the truth, the fear isn’t going to go away or decrease unless you step through it.

One of the biggest gifts of being human is that we have the ability to choose.

You can choose to pick up the phone and reach out or you can choose to let fear be your excuse.

Regardless, it’s your choice.

The great thing about this is that you can start small and build momentum too.

Try setting small goals like speaking to one person today. Don’t let yourself go to sleep tonight without having checked it off your list.

You’ll begin to realize the only thing that makes picking up the phone hard is what’s going on between your two ears, and it will get easier.

Tomorrow, set a goal of speaking to 2 people, and gradually increase your goals as you build your confidence muscle.

Pretty soon that fear will be just a whisper.

But it’s not going to happen unless you CHOOSE to move forward regardless of how it “feels”.

Pick up the phone now, call a prospect and give yourself a fantastic experience!

How to use fear to grow

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

Due to my study, I now realize that every time I grow, fear, worry and doubt will show up in some way to try to get me to stop. Now that I recognize this, how can I ignore it or push past it to keep moving forward?

Neagle Code Answer

You are absolutely correct that fear, worry and doubt will surface, especially once you’ve made a decision to do something new.

Rather than try to act as if those feelings aren’t there, recognize them and choose to move forward anyway. The only way to move beyond your old programming is to give yourself a new experience and that means moving through your fears.

The fear, doubt and worry surface in different ways for each person, depending on your own programming.

It will cause people, circumstances and events in your life to come forth in an effort to get you to stop and go backward.

That’s what I call the Terror Barrier.

If you can see those obstacles are only illusions that are there to show you where you need to grow to get to your next level, you can look at them from a place of power and decide how you will conquer them.

Welcome the fear, doubt and worry and use them as guides to where you need to grow.

Step through the feeling of fear to truly grow

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Stephanie.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David, I just read your answer to a question about “pushing away” negative thoughts and I have a follow-up question for you. Sometimes when we have a negative feeling like fear, the solution is simply to change focus to the positive. Other times, focusing on the positive can be an escape from having to face a fear and deal with it.

How can I tell whether to turn away from a negative thought/feeling, or to face it?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Stephanie!

What a great question.

Turning your back on the fear simply means to not let it control what you’re thinking or doing.

I think it may be helpful to use an example.

Let’s say Beth wants to build a business, and to build that business, she knows she needs to make sales.

However, sales is something Beth is very much afraid of, as she’s very concerned about what people may think of her. The thought of making someone angry or feeling “salesy”, causes Beth to have a really hard time engaging in sales conversations both in person and on the phone, which in turn is negatively affecting her ability to make money.

Beth needs to recognize that the fear is a lie, turn her back on it, not allow it to control her and pick up the phone or make the contact regardless of the fear.

She should only focus on the positive outcomes she wants, not on worrying about angering someone or what they may think of her.

Focusing on the positive doesn’t mean she’s not “dealing” with something she needs to deal with; she’s stepping right through what’s causing her to feel the fear. And as soon as she does that, the fear loses its power.

You see fear rears its head when you’re on the cusp of growth. Never turn away from that growth because of the fear. Instead, turn your back on the fear, tell it to get behind you and keep going!

Never deal with the fear itself…deal with what’s causing the fear.

Just Believe,®
