Common Misconceptions About Being an Entrepreneur

Common Misconceptions About Being an Entrepreneur

There’s been a huge shift in entrepreneurship in the last 50 years β€” and also in the last 10 to 15 years.

Being an entrepreneur has become the β€œcool” thing to do. We’ve β€œcelebritized” it in a way.

We see all these different pictures of people with yachts, private jets, driving their new Bugatti, etc… we see reality TV like the Kardashians showing people β€œliving the life.”

But with these shows, we never see what an entrepreneur is actually doing day in and out.

We don’t see the entrepreneur working 18-hour days, trying to pay their bills. We don’t see them borrowing money, trying to keep their company moving forward. We don’t see them rehabbing their new product or service, because customers are returning what they bought.

We don’t see them hiring, firing employees, people quitting or not showing up to work.

We don’t see the personal problems many entrepreneurs have behind the scenes β€” like their family hasn’t seen them in six months. Or they’re dealing with overwhelm, depression, binge-drinking, or doing drugs.

There’s a lot of negative shit that comes out of being an entrepreneur that people don’t realize.

Some people go into business with some kind of dream or idea about what they want to experience. The dream is unique to each person. But once they get into business, it becomes like a monster taking over. They don’t know how to control it, tame it, or get the monster moving in one direction.

Starting a business can either lead to personal freedom β€” or your own personal prison.

We need to ask ourselves a variety of questions about what to do when we start a business β€” so that we don’t end up creating a giant β€œjob” for ourselves that we don’t even like. That’s what turns a business into a prison, rather than freedom.

Many people who start a business should really think about all of this beforehand.

So let me ask you something… if you’re in business, does it give you freedom, or do you feel like a prisoner?

If it feels like a prison, ask yourself what you are resisting being, doing or having that would shift things to provide you more personal freedom.

The Art of Success – Article #18 – Are You Suppressing?

Are You Suppressing?

Healthy self-expression is a β€œmust-have” if you want a truly successful, satisfying life.

What does it mean to express yourself?

It means to give voice to your thoughts or feelings. You either say what you’re thinking or feeling, or you act it out physically in some way (or both).

You acknowledge what’s inside of you, and let it out.

As human beings, we were meant to have full self-expression.

However, as kids most us of were taught it’s not OK to express ourselves. In fact, we were sometimes punished for expressing ourselves.

Be honest…how many of you were not allowed to be angry?

And so as adults, we continue to suppress what we’re feeling and thinking.

Here’s the thing:

Whatever you don’t express, you suppress…and that will make you sick.

If you think or feel something but don’t express it, you begin to suppress it. You bury it inside of you.

This has a negative effect.

Everything you suppress will eventually find an unhealthy way to express itself with and through you. This is called β€œdisease,” which is a body that’s not at ease.

Health is the natural state for you to be in, both physically and emotionally.

We must learn how to express what we’re experiencing in a healthy way…including the negative things.

It’s not β€œwrong” for you to experience something negative or to feel anger frustration or hurt. It’s merely a part of experiencing life.

If you’re feeling something negative, it’s the catalyst you need to have in your life that will take you to the next level β€” but only if you understand it and express it the right way.

One way to practice healthy expression is to start by writing your thoughts and feelings in a journal while allowing yourself to experience whatever emotions come up for you.

Write it all out on paper.

What needs to come out will come out.

Expressing yourself in a healthy way will create a deep sense of personal freedom unlike anything else you’ve ever experienced.
