They think I’m too expensive

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

I recently parted ways with a client who was becoming a toxic relationship. After making that decision, many new leads showed up in my pipeline.

Iโ€™ve had calls with several of them, but many havenโ€™t panned out. I believe part of it is โ€œsticker shockโ€ โ€” they think Iโ€™m too expensive.

Now Iโ€™m starting to go into doubt, fear, and worry. Iโ€™ve become a split personality. Some days, Iโ€™m focused, pumped up, excited about my goal, and ready to do what I need to do. Then something happensโ€ฆ a client says, โ€œNo,โ€ or they cancel the call before we talk. Iโ€™ll think, โ€œThat one didnโ€™t work; now Iโ€™m screwed.โ€

Itโ€™s a back-and-forth battle. Iโ€™m frustrated with myself, and starting to fear this wonโ€™t work โ€” maybe my goals are wrong. Why am I doing this?

Neagle Code Answer

Thanks for the GREAT question!

When you have a vision and a goal for your life and business, it is your responsibility to hold onto that dream.

Itโ€™s not anybody elseโ€™s responsibility to verify that youโ€™re on the right track by buying from you.

Everyone has a dream, and everyone is responsible for holding on to their own dream.

If someone doesnโ€™t see the value in what you offer, and is not willing to pay for it โ€” there could be a million different reasons why. But it has nothing to do with you.

It has nothing to do with you being on the right track, or being on the wrong track.

It IS an indication that theyโ€™re not the right client for you.

This is where I see people get really messed up. Theyโ€™re using outside verification to determine whether or not theyโ€™re doing the right thing.

The responsibility for that is squarely in your hands.

Youโ€™re responsible for bringing your vision and goal into the world. Youโ€™re responsible for finding the people who see the value in it.

More people will always tell you โ€œnoโ€ than โ€œyes.โ€ Thatโ€™s how business works.

Your job is to find the people who see the value, and who will say yes.

For the ones who donโ€™t โ€” donโ€™t take it personally, because itโ€™s not personal. Their โ€œnoโ€ is a reflection of everything going on in their life, their judgments, and their evaluation of things.

It has nothing to do with you.

There are plenty of people here for you, who will buy from you, so you can become wealthyโ€ฆ and THEY can receive the service youโ€™re offering.

But the vision is yours. You have to hold it, and go look for the right people. Thatโ€™s it, period.

Every time someone says โ€œnoโ€ or doesnโ€™t show up for a call โ€” all that is saying is they werenโ€™t the right person to begin with. Thatโ€™s it.

Move on from it, and find those who are right for you.

The Art of Success – Article #5 – Are You Responsible?

Are You Responsible?

Last week I wrote about we were born to be creators.

You create everything in your life, whether youโ€™re aware of it or not.

Another key to success is to take 100% responsibility for EVERYTHING you create in your lifeโ€ฆthe good, the bad, the ugly, all of it. Otherwise, youโ€™re a โ€œvictim.โ€

Do you take full responsibility for everything you create in your life?

Think about this carefully. How you answer this question shows you your level of awareness, and your ability to create what you want (as opposed to what you donโ€™t want).

An โ€œunawareโ€ person generally doesnโ€™t take responsibility for everything in their life.

Ask them what theyโ€™re unhappy about, and theyโ€™ll have a laundry list of complaints. Theyโ€™ll most likely blame something (or someone) for their undesired experiences. Or theyโ€™ll make excuses and shift responsibility to something outside of themselves.

This can be obvious โ€” like saying, โ€œItโ€™s so-and-soโ€™s fault that XYZ happened to me.โ€

Or it can be more subtle, like โ€œIf the weatherโ€™s bad I wonโ€™t follow through on my commitment.โ€ (In which case, youโ€™re pre-blaming any bad weather in advance for your lack of follow-through.)

When youโ€™re blaming, youโ€™re not taking full responsibility for your life. Period.

From that stance, youโ€™re a victim. As a victim, you canโ€™t proactively change anything in your life, let alone create what you want.

Hereโ€™s the truth:

Everything thatโ€™s currently in your lifeโ€ฆ
you put there.

Whether consciously or subconsciouslyโ€ฆ
you put it there.

Itโ€™s your life, after all.

Maybe you didnโ€™t mean to put something there, and it showed up anyway. Great. How you choose to react to it will determine your experience.

If you donโ€™t love a situation in your life, how can you change it?

My favorite question to ask in such cases is:

โ€œWhy am I choosing to have this experience/result/outcome?โ€ (A victim would never ask that. Theyโ€™d be too busy blaming and fuming about their results.)

Asking this question instantly puts you back in the driverโ€™s seat of your own life.

If youโ€™re willing to accept 100% responsibility for everything youโ€™re creating, you can make phenomenal changes in your life.

Doors will open wide for you. It will seem like โ€œmagic,โ€ but itโ€™s really just one of the key elements of being a successful person.

That includes taking responsibility for every thought, feeling, and action you take.

How do you deal with hate mail?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Michele.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

How do you deal with hate email? I recently received an email from someone “DEMANDING” to be taken off my list. I didnโ€™t put her on there, she opted inโ€ฆand yet, her email was incredibly angry and on the verge of โ€œabusiveโ€.

My first reaction was that my fear of judgment kicked in and I felt horrible — and then had a physical response! Thankfully I was able to get past it and back on track, but how do you deal with these intense, paralyzing fears?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question!

The only way to โ€œdealโ€ with fear is to shine a light on it so that you can see that itโ€™s a lie and then continue onward in spite of the feelings.

I know youโ€™ve heard me say this before, but Spirit does not speak to you through fear, so anytime you feel that fear and hear those fearful voices in your head, you must stop and ask yourself whose voices those are.

Letโ€™s go back to TRUTH. (My favorite place)

Fear is simply your egoโ€™s way of stopping you from growing. And the fear was given to you by someone else, usually a parent or someone who had a significant role in your life.

The next time you feel fear, try identifying whose voice is talking to you because it will not be Godโ€™s.

So letโ€™s go back to the first question you asked: How do you deal with hate mail?

My answer is that you donโ€™t. You must understand that hate mail has everything to do with the person sending it and nothing to do with you.

You arenโ€™t responsible for someone elseโ€™s thoughts, feelings and emotions; you are only responsible for your OWN.

Kudos to you for recognizing that it triggered your fear of judgment. If you focus your attention on why you have a fear of judgment in the first place, and let the hate mail go, the truth will set you free.

And always remember:

There is no growth without discomfort and it sounds like youโ€™re GROWING!!!

I work and hustle for success. Am I being irresponsible?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Bryan S.

Neagle Code Question

Dear David,

I have been passionate about building my business. I invest, I work hard, and do my best to provide for my family. And yet, I overhear people talking about how Iโ€™m being irresponsibleโ€ฆ

I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. Am I really being irresponsible to want to build a successful business?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Bryan.

The short answer is:

No, youโ€™re not irresponsible.

Let me explain.

The definition of responsibility is the ability to respond. If you are investing AND willing to do what it takes to respond and pay back those debts, you are absolutely NOT acting irresponsibly. Now if you were to go down to the local Wal-Mart and spend your life savings on a bunch of TVs and Doritos without any thought of how you were going to pay for it, THAT would be irresponsible.

Whatโ€™s really happening is this:

When you change and grow, you force the people in your life to adapt to your changes. Your growth highlights where they are not growing and makes them very uncomfortable.

This in turn translates to one of two things.

Either they support your growth.

OR

They donโ€™t support your growth.

It sounds like the people in your life who are calling you irresponsible are uncomfortable with your growth and passion.

You may want to re-evaluate your relationship with them, accept them for who THEY are, and make a choice based on what you want for your life.

Itโ€™s not a myth that you are a product of the 5 closest people in your life.

When toxic relationships threaten your business growth

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Rebecca.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I have a 23 year-old daughter who is ruining her life. She doesnโ€™t take responsibility for any of her actions, and she seems dedicated to distracting me from growing my business. Iโ€™ve heard you teach about unhealthy attachments, but sheโ€™s my daughterโ€ฆ

Any suggestions?

Neagle Code Answer

This is one of those questions for which there is no magic fix.

There are a couple of things here that you need to really think about.

1. You are 100% responsible for everything in your own life.

2. Your daughter is an adult so you are no longer responsible FOR her.

3. It is not your job to fix her. She is the only one who can change herself, and thatโ€™s only if she wishes to change.

That means that you have to decide that you are no longer going to tolerate toxic relationships in your life.

That doesnโ€™t mean that you no longer love her.

In fact, the solution to your problem is to love her for who she is without judgment, and limit the time you spend with her by setting boundaries around what is acceptable in your life and what is not.

We all need to learn about cause and effect, and we are all responsible for our own choices and lives.

One of the best gifts we can give our children is to allow them to have their own experiences and carve their own way, even if we may not agree with them.
