Struggling to Make the Sale?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

My problem is when I make a sale, a big sale, I go back to helping people and stop selling. Each time I hang up the phone I think, “Oh my god, I forgot to do the sale.” How do I start making sales again and stop this pattern?

Neagle Code Answer

Thanks for the great question!

This is a very common phenomenon for small business owners.

You have a financial set point.

You're working to stay the same.

You're working to be safe.

Intellectually you want to make more money, but when you hit that upper level of your own safety, you stop.

You say to yourself, “I'll do it tomorrow or I'll do it next time.”

Then, you take your foot off the gas, and you only apply it again once you need to make more money.

It's a terrible pattern to be in.

And the only way to break through it is with consistency and commitment.

Determine how much money you want to make.

Then, it becomes a commitment to make those sales every week.

Calendar your sales activities and STICK TO IT!

You don't stop when you reach the amount of money that pays your bills. You keep going.

If you can stay disciplined, and keep your word by doing what you say you are going to do, this will change very quickly for you!

Are you on the edge?

Are you on the edge?

Francis Mallmann is one of the biggest celebrity chefs in South America. He had an awakening when he was 13 years old, which is when he left home. He became a very accomplished French chef at one point, then turned his back on all of that.

He walked in his own path to develop his own style of cooking with fire.

I’ve had dinner with him twice at his restaurant, Los Fuegos, in Miami. He’s a very fascinating person, and he lives what I teach.

He has totally embraced this idea that I’ve been perpetuating now for a very long time — He totally lives it and embodies it in everything he does.

I’d recommend you check out the Netflix program, “Chef’s Table” (Season 1, Episode 3) to learn more about Francis Mallmann.

He has a quote I want to share with you that relates to the idea of personal freedom:

“You don’t grow on a secure path. All of us should conquer something in life… and it needs a lot of work and it needs lot of risk.”

“In order to grow and to improve, you have to be there ‘a bit on the edge of uncertainty.’”

When I heard him say that on the show, it rang a bell in the back of my head.

For years, my mentor basically said the same thing.

My mentor said: ”If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room.”

Many authors I’ve studied have also talked about this idea of “living on the edge.”

What is the “edge” they’re referring to?

It’s the edge between success and failure.

Most people don’t live anywhere near that edge — because they’re raised with the idea of living safely.

But unless you’re living on that edge, no growth can take place in you.

Where is your “edge”?

Are you constantly challenging yourself to do things you’ve never done before?

You know you’re living on the edge when you do something that excites you but also makes you nervous. The fear is guiding you in the right direction.

How to end “paralysis by analysis” in your business

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David, and thanks for taking my question!

My problem is that I think I’m too comfortable. I believe I have a deep desire to build my own business, but it seems I stop before I even start… I spend my time “thinking” rather than “doing.” And I think it’s important to mention that I don’t NEED to bring in money. I do WANT to though…

Any insight you can provide would be extremely helpful.

Neagle Code Answer

Hi!

The truth in your situation is that you just don’t want it bad enough. You are content to stay where you are, and there’s nothing really that’s creating a sense of urgency for you.

In these instances, YOU have to create the sense of urgency.

Let me explain…

Until your burning desire is greater than you’re need for comfort, nothing will change. Growth is uncomfortable. Without the discomfort we don’t grow. And if you are not growing, it’s going to be nearly impossible to help someone else grow.

Ask yourself, what in your life is keeping you comfortable?

Is it a job you show up to everyday?

Is it your savings account?

Is it your safe group of people around you?

What specifically do you fall back on as that safety net?

In order for you to move past this you have to identify that safety net and burn it.

Then you have to fall deeply, madly and 100% in love with this desire you have to help people.

You see, the juice of life lies beyond your comfort zone…

As we grow and expand, we can then enrich the lives of others.
