The Art of Success – Article #17 – How to Release Your Past

How to Release Your Past

Everything in your past has been absolutely essential for you to become the person you are today.

It has prepared you for where you are now and where you’ll be in the future.

However, a lot of us are walking around with junk from our past that’s causing us to make present-day decisions in a dysfunctional way.

This causes us to make errors in the present. We think we’re doing things right, but really we are not. We’re trying to move forward, but our past is holding us back.

Let go of anything from your past that’s affecting your ability to make decisions in the present.

It’s important to let these things go in a healthy way.

We’ve all done stupid things in the past….and I’ve got news for you — you’re going to do stupid things in the future. None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes. We all do dumb things.

If you did something and realized you shouldn’t have done it, forgive yourself and let it all go.

You can’t change anything that happened in the past anyway, so you might as well let it go.

There are 2 ways to forgive and let go of the past, whether it’s forgiving yourself or others:

1. Accept responsibility. Whatever the situation was (or is), realize that you attracted it into your life for a reason — for your growth.

2. Practice gratitude for it. Even if a situation is “bad,” be grateful for it. Understand that you created it. You’re constantly creating all the time. Everything that’s in your life, you created.

A bad situation is there to teach you something. That’s it. It’s not there to punish you, make you miserable, or cause turmoil or constant pain in your life.

Be grateful for everything. Gratitude keeps you connected to the higher Source where everything comes from to begin with.

If you’re calling everything into your life — if you’re creating everything and being resentful for it — how will anything ever change? It won’t. Your mind will stay on same track. It’ll be resentful. It’ll be full of anger, hatred, or whatever it is…and you’ll just keep thinking the same thoughts over and over again.

If you’re not grateful,
you’re resentful.

You have the power to choose. I urge you to make that choice now.

Is your coach a fraud?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Dear David,

It seems like everywhere I turn there is someone proclaiming to be a mindset coach, a wealth coach, a success coach or a manifestation coach. My problem is that after attending several seminars, those people who claim to be able to help others achieve their financial dreams, haven’t actually been able to achieve their own. What is up with this?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for your question.

A few years ago I started noticing this trend as well.

And the simple answer is:

Erroneous understanding of the Laws is largely why you’re seeing this.

People calling themselves coaches, trainers, gurus, with no understanding—or a very perverted understanding—of how the Laws of the Universe work, started teaching the Laws as well as teaching spirituality and prosperity.

And, as a result, they started bastardizing the Laws and doing more harm than good.

I’m not saying this stems from malicious intent.

The teachers usually believe what they are teaching, but that teaching is filled with ignorance and very wounded ideas about how the Laws work, how Spirit works, how God and the Universe work.

This harmful teaching is creating mobs and mobs of people with the same lack of understanding, and lack of positive results, which is compounding the problem, creating destruction all over the place, and sending this industry into a downward spiral.

I can’t tell you how many times my team and I get questions about why the Laws don’t work for them.

That question in and of itself is a misunderstanding of the Laws. The Laws are ALWAYS working.

People are losing faith, losing hope, and they don’t understand how to turn this around.

My suggestion is to only work with people who have demonstrated through their results and testimonials that they truly have an understanding of the Laws. And when in doubt turn to the truth for the answers.

Truth can be found in any of the books you’ve heard me mention over the years. A few good examples are:

The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles
Working with the Law by Raymond Holliwell
Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill
As A Man Thinketh by James Allen

These books go everywhere with me, and I’ve made it my life’s work to study the laws and teach them in a way that can clearly be understood.

Should I put deadlines next to my goals?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from James P.

Neagle Code Question

Hello David!

Thanks for taking my question!

How do you determine what is reasonable when setting timelines for goal attainment? Or should timelines be left out of the equation altogether?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi James!

Sometimes, time is not a factor when setting goals, and other times, it’s important to do your research before setting that goal.

Some business owners use time as an excuse. They say things like:

“When I get x number clients, I’ll do z.”

This is a dysfunctional way of looking at time, and I certainly don’t recommend it, especially when a quantum leap can sometimes occur just by making a decision that time is NOT a factor.

If you do have a goal that requires time, for example, building a house, you must do your research and be flexible with your timelines.

Obviously it’s tough for me to guess at what your goal entails, but be honest with yourself.

Are you using time as an excuse or are you building in reasons to delay?

OR

Do you need to gather more information to see what tasks need to be completed to you to attain your goal?

A GREAT resource for you is the chapter titled, Desire, in Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich, especially if you’re setting a financial goal.

Happy goal setting!!

How is a mastermind different from a coaching program?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Elizabeth Lou.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I have seen over and over again, coaches marketing “masterminds.” Can you explain the concept of a mastermind vs. a coaching program? I’m a bit confused as to the difference.

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Elizabeth and thanks for the REALLY great question!!

I agree with you. There are a lot of coaches offering masterminds, and those programs are generally coaching programs rather than true masterminds.

Let me explain the difference.

The definition of a mastermind that I prefer is found in Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich. I strongly encourage you to read Chapter 10: Power of The Mastermind: The Driving Force.

He defines a mastermind as a “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.

He breaks a powerful mastermind into 2 characteristics:

1) The first characteristic is economic. Hill explains that “economic advantages may be created by people who surround themselves with the advice, counsel, and personal cooperation of a group of people who are willing to lend them whole hearted aid in a spirit of perfect harmony.” He goes on to state that, “this form of cooperative alliance has been the basis of nearly every great fortune.”

2) The second characteristic is based on the premise that “No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible and intangible force which may be likened to a third mind.

The biggest difference between a coaching program that calls itself a mastermind vs. a true mastermind is that in a coaching program, generally people gather to learn from or get support from one “expert.” In a true mastermind, all participants are “equal” and have a goal of helping each other, knowing that in return, they will also be helped.

What Super-Powers would a Super-Victim have? (Impossible…)

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

How does one pick up after 30 yrs of successful business only to lose everything including wife of 30 years? I have hit the skids and can't seem to get out.

Answer:

Everything that happens to you in your lifetime has happened because you created it.

You've created all the joyous moments and the painful moments, and you've created it for a reason.

Napolean Hill states in his book, Think and Grow Rich, that opportunity often comes disguised as misfortune or temporary defeat.

Letting go of any resentment you still hold will allow you to see the opportunity, and although what happened feels like a tragedy, the blessing that it brings far outweighs that tragedy.

There is something really big and powerful on the other side of this, and you created the downfall to force your own growth.

Your first step in overcoming the anger and resentment that is keeping you from seeing the opportunity is to take responsibility for the situation.

You can't be powerful and a victim at the same time.

If you stay in the victim mentality, you will only see with the eyes of a victim, and you will be blind to the opportunities that are before you right now.
