Too Much Information

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Brad E.

Neagle Code Question

David,

I feel like Iโ€™m getting bombarded. Iโ€™m a little stuck in my business right now, and I know itโ€™s a combination of an issue with my mindset and an issue with my sales process. My problem right now is that I donโ€™t know where to find the answer. There are podcasts, YouTube videos, books, audios, Instagram, Facebook, Ted Talks, etc. from hundreds of thousands of โ€œexpertsโ€ all telling me what I should and shouldnโ€™t be doing.

How do I sift through all this noise and find the answer without being duped, or fed misinformation?

THANKS!!!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Bradโ€ฆ I totally get it!

When I started my business, if I needed an answer, I went to the library or went to a seminar or event. The Internet didnโ€™t exist.

Todayโ€ฆ so much information is at your fingertips that it can be both overwhelming and confusing.

My first piece of advice is to find someone who has successfully done what youโ€™ve done, and who is also at least 5 steps ahead of where you are right now.

Look for results-based testimonials, and do your research.

Follow them, and watch what they are doing not just what they are saying.

I remember when I first started following my first mentor, Bob Proctor. His greatest piece of advice was:

Pay attention
to what I do.

So I did. And it was my greatest source of education and training.

Then when you find someone, be willing to pay for individual coaching or consulting, and leverage his or her experience. Ask how you can help THEM, and be willing to give of yourselfโ€ฆthis creates a win-win for both of you.

Focus on WHY

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Mary B.

Neagle Code Question

I have a full-time job, have a desire to grow my virtual business and even work a part-time tutoring math. Do you feel it is possible to desire multiple things at once, or do we only have so much energy to give and should we focus it to maximize desired results?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Mary, and thanks for your question.

I think itโ€™s first important to get an understanding of WHY you want to be doing all of these things.

Whatโ€™s your motivation behind working a full-time job, growing your business and tutoring?

Are you doing all of these things because you truly love them all?

Or are your motivations due to something else?

I have a hard time believing that youโ€™re equally passionate about all three. So get really clear and honest about why youโ€™re doing what youโ€™re doing.

Ask yourself if youโ€™re taking part in these businesses because you really love them or because you feel you SHOULD, you need the money, or you hope others appreciate you for your HARD WORK.

Do you have a belief that you canโ€™t do what you love AND make money?

Are you creating distraction and chaos to keep yourself small?

You see, what youโ€™re doing right now is chasing multiple bunnies.

You will get your best results when you can focus on ONE business and give all your energy to it.

Once you get clear on that, choose the one business youโ€™re most passionate and inspired about and then give it your ALL. Burn the ships and donโ€™t let anything stop you or stand in your way of achieving your goals.

The truth is that once you have a deep emotional desire for something and then EXPECT that desire to manifest, the Universe will respond. Emotion puts everything in motion, and if youโ€™re not passionate about your business, you most likely wonโ€™t get the results youโ€™re hoping for.

How to set proper boundaries in your business and personal life

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I feel like my business is swallowing me up, and itโ€™s to the point now that I canโ€™t see a difference between my personal life and my business life. Even my friendships and relationships are steeped in my business to the point where I feel like I canโ€™t have a genuine conversation without someone in my life asking for coaching or business tips. I know I need to untangle this, but am unsure of the steps.

Thanks!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for this question.

The fact that you see your business life and personal life as one is a key indicator that you have not set proper boundaries for your life and in your relationships.

Your business life should be your business life, and your personal life should be your personal life.

Here are some suggestions on how to set proper boundaries.

1) Have a set start and end time to your day. Do not let your work invade your personal time. Work will always fill the time you allot it, so you may find that you are much more efficient when you have a limited time to work on your business. Use your calendar and stick to it!

2) Get involved in something outside your business. If you like travel, join a travel club. If you like to read, join a book club. If you like to hike, join a hiking club. This will expose you to people who know nothing about your business, but still share the same interests that you do. They wonโ€™t want anything from you except your thoughts on your favorite destination, book, or hiking trail.

3) Schedule time with your current friends and gently let them know that youโ€™re not open to a conversation about your business, and you donโ€™t feel you can be their coach and their friend at the same time. Youโ€™d much rather be their friend. If youโ€™re worried about what youโ€™ll talk about, think about purchasing a small box of conversation starters. They are great to spark new and interesting conversations.

4) Do some journaling about who you are outside of your business. You need to begin to realize that your business is not your identity.

How to set up boundaries between work and personal life

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

HELP!!! As a small business owner, my entire life is devoted to running and keeping my business afloat. I have not had time for a personal life. When I get with people in my industry, one or two things tend to happen:

1) They want me to mentor them for free;

2) They want to sell me their services when all I want is a friend.

How can I separate my business and my personal life when they are one in the same?

Neagle Code Answer

Thank you for the question!

The problem you are describing in your question is nothing more than a boundary issue.

The fact that you see your business life and personal life as one is a key indicator that you have not set proper boundaries for your life and in your relationships.

Your business life should be your business life, and your personal life should be your personal life.

Here are some suggestions on how to set proper boundaries:

1) Have a set start and end time to your work day. Do not let your work invade your personal time. Work will always fill the time you allot it, so you may find that you are much more efficient when you have a limited time to work on your business.

2) Get involved in something outside your business. If you like to fish, join a fishing club. If you like to read, join a book club. If you like to hike, join a hiking club. This will expose you to people who know nothing about your business, but still share the same interests that you do. They wonโ€™t want anything from you except your thoughts on your favorite fishing spot, book, or hiking trail.

They are great to spark new and interesting conversation.

4) Do some journaling about who you are outside of your business. You need to begin to realize that your business is not your identity.

Keep in mind that as you do this, you may feel a small bit of anxiety. Itโ€™s perfectly normal as you begin to redefine who you are and what life you most want to live.

Can I do side work while building my dream business?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I am facing a new chapter in my life — acknowledging my true desire as it pertains to work. I know I have all the tools, but I need some time to put it all together and build. During this time, as I build and map out, I have to generate some income in order to pay bills while I launch this new project. As it pertains to the laws of the universe, would it be okay for me to generate money doing work to support this initial step (even if its something that I do like, but its not the love of my life); but that can support this process at this time?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi!

This is a fantastic question, and the answer lies within the concept of setting strict boundaries for yourself in terms of time and money.

It is absolutely fine and sometimes necessary to do work in one area while transitioning into another. However, there are a few things that need to take place to make sure this decision doesnโ€™t end up sabotaging your desires or even side-tracking them.

First: Set your goal and stick to it. Do your research and find out exactly how much money you need to earn to finance your new endeavor. Plan how youโ€™re going to set that money aside (perhaps in itโ€™s own savings account that is not to be used for anything).

Second: Set a definitive date by which you will completely transition. This date must be FIRM.

Third: Calendar! Make sure you are calendaring ALL of your business planning activities. This needs to be a priority. Do not let anything distract you from this.

If you follow these 3 steps, youโ€™ll have the capital and the plan in place to completely transition into doing what you truly love!

Can I trust my team members?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Isaiah.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I know that to grow my business I need to develop a team. Iโ€™ve never hired anyone before, and Iโ€™m really worried about trusting people with a business Iโ€™ve worked so hard to build. How much do I trust a team?

Neagle Code Answer

โ€จHi Isaiah, and thanks for the question.

โ€จThe concept of trust is interesting, and the more I speak to entrepreneurs, the more I see how their lack of understanding of trust leads to sabotage.

Itโ€™s one of the reasons Iโ€™ll be teaching on this topic in my new Live and Let Live Virtual Training. Trust is a huge issue because itโ€™s not actually taught to the majority of usโ€ฆespecially those of us who grew up in the Middle Class.

You see, trust MUST be earned.

To trust blindly in others is sheer ignorance.

Let me explain.

When you are building a team, you have to assume the role of leader.

A good leader interviews and screens potential hires carefully and strategically.

References are always checked.

After the hire is made, the leader gives the new team member opportunities to earn the leaderโ€™s trust until they have proven to be trustworthy.

This is your business, itโ€™s your responsibility, and I see so many entrepreneurs hand over the keys to their business to people who have not demonstrated that they can be trusted.

Do your part to make sure the team members you are bringing into your business are a good fit, and be willing to give them opportunities to showcase their gifts and earn your trust at the same time.

[Fast Cash Formula Series] Article #9 ~ Unmask Your Opportunity

I told you last time that the opportunity to get what you need or want is around you, but itโ€™s likely hiding in plain sight.

Opportunities come to help you grow, so yours will surely require you to face a fear thatโ€™s holding you back. For example, years ago, the opportunity to triple my income in a year required me to leave the relative security of my job on the loading dock and face a subconscious fear of fire by a fuel truck.

In fact, the more threatening your subconscious finds an opportunity, the more hidden it may be. To you, it might not even exist.

Sometimes you are aware of the opportunity that could take you light-years from where you are, but you talk yourself out of it. You tell yourself you canโ€™t afford it, so-and-so will be upset or itโ€™s not the right time.

The Boat that Launched My Business

For example, a year or so after I left the loading dock, I was making good money. I had made other leaps and bounds in my life, and I was curious how I had done it. I wanted to understand the mechanism so that I could keep it going.

I was really drawn to go a Tony Robbins event in another state that cost $3,500. I remember thinking, I have to go to this. But I didnโ€™t have the cash.

One morning, I was standing in my kitchen with a cup of coffee in my hand, looking out the window and thinking about the event. My gaze fell upon my boat in the driveway, which I had just paid off that week. I thought, If I sold my boat, Iโ€™d have the money.

That boat was really important to me. I grew up hunting and fishing and around the water, and it was the first really nice thing that I had bought for myself. It seemed crazy to turn around and sell it.

But then I realized that if I could figure out what I was doing to be successful and consciously control it, I could have as many boats as I wanted.

That clinched it. I sold the boat, went to the seminar, bought myself a computer, and began the process to become the multimillionaire business owner I am today.

EXERCISE:

Unmask YOUR Opportunity

The opportunity to have what you need or want is around you as well. And no matter how hidden it may seem, on some level you already know what it is, so here is a simple exercise to bring it to consciousness.

1. At the top of a piece of paper, write down your โ€œneed,โ€ the amount to the penny of your monthly bills. Remember, in order to get what you want, you first have to master your need. If you are meeting your need every month, write down what you want. What is your financial goal?

2. Below that, make a list of the opportunities that exist in your life right now to meet your need or want. No matter how far-fetched, list everything that comes to mind.

Some of them wonโ€™t appeal to you, but that may only reflect a skewed perception. Donโ€™t censor your ideas. Just let them flow from the Universe to you.

Your next step is to determine which of the opportunities can deliver your goal. Iโ€™ll show you how to do that next time.
