Trusting others with your business

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I know that it takes a team to build the business that I want to grow, but I really struggle with trust. How much trust should I put into others? Or is it ALL on me?

Thanks!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi and thanks for the question.

The concept of trust is interesting, and the more I speak to entrepreneurs, the more I see how their lack of understanding of trust leads to sabotage.

You see,
trust MUST be earned.

To trust blindly in others is sheer ignorance.

Let me explain.

When you are building a team, you have to be a leader.

A good leader interviews and screens potential hires carefully and strategically.

A good leader ALWAYS checks references.

After the hire is made, the leader gives the new team member opportunities to earn the leader’s trust until they have proven to be trustworthy.

This is your business, it’s your responsibility, and I see so many entrepreneurs hand over the keys to their business to people who have not demonstrated that they can be trusted.

Do your part to make sure the team members you are bringing into your business are a good fit, and be willing to give them opportunities to showcase their gifts and earn your trust at the same time.

Even if you don’t feel grateful…

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I’m getting ready for the Thanksgiving Holiday and am reflecting on all the things I am thankful for. I remembered you did a teaching a year or so ago on the power of gratitude, and while I know it’s “good” to be grateful (my mom taught me that), can you explain why you had said it’s so powerful?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question, and I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!!

Gratitude is THE one emotion that we experience, and can cause ourselves to experience through practice, that keeps us directly connected to our source of supply in life.

It not only makes us feel good about the blessings we all have in our lives, but can and should be practiced in advance of receiving something we desire.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about…

“I’m so happy and grateful now that I have/am/experiencing _____________________.”

Then allow yourself to feel the emotion of that gratitude as if you’ve already received your desire.

Feel it in your body, and believe that it is happening right now.

Doing this, we also combine Gratitude with Faith and Belief that the things and good we desire will come to us.

It is demonstrating positive creative expectancy, and when we do that, we can create anything we truly desire in life.

And here’s the great part… don’t just practice gratitude around the holidays.

Make it a daily practice.

Everyday write down 3 things you are grateful for…even if you’re not feeling very grateful for anything, and just see the miracles you’ll create in your life!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Where are your clients?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Dear David,

I’ve been in the coaching industry for about 5 years now, and I’m ready (and willing) to finally up-level both my ideal client and my price points. I feel I’m ready to work with a much more advanced business owner as I myself have become incredibly advanced.

Here’s my problem. I have a list full of beginners. How do I start to build a new list of my up-leveled client? Any down and dirty suggestions?

Thanks!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi and thanks for your question!

First of all, congratulations on up-leveling your clientele and your prices!

My first suggestion to you would be to create a new ideal client avatar.

Don’t get me wrong; you can still market your new programs to your list. There’s actually a very good chance that there are some ideal clients hiding in there just waiting for you to start speaking directly to them.

However, in order for you to identify new opportunities to get in front of this new audience (outside of your list), you must first get very clear about:

1) What this new client wants (goals).

2) What this new client’s problems are (in their words, not yours).

3) How they think.

This allows you to become in harmony with your new
up-leveled client and use the Law of Vibration to begin to become aware of opportunity around you right now.

Then the fastest way to build a new client list is to physically speak in front of them. This means you must do your research and identify places where your ideal client gathers.

For example, if your new client is a 6-figure business owner who really wants to build their business on-line, you’d be smart to look at upcoming conferences and seminars teaching that topic and see if you can secure a speaking spot.

This positions you very well and allows you to speak directly to your new market.

How to explain what you do

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Dear David,

How can I explain what I do to potential clients? My mind goes BLANK when someone asks me…

Neagle Code Answer

Hi!

Great question! The simple answer is: DON’T.

Let me explain.

When speaking to a potential client, it’s always important to enter the conversation they are already having in their head.

Your greatest asset in this
situation is the question.

Questions have the ability to give you insight as to what your prospect is thinking.

They also help you determine if you want to work with them.

When someone asks you what you do, use a question to take control of the conversation and to make the conversation about them and NOT you.

Let me give you an example:

Prospect: Hi _________, what is it that you do?

You: Well, let me ask you something. Have you ever felt like you’re playing too small and that there’s something bigger out there for you?

Prospect: Yes, I have.

You: This is what I help people overcome/discover.

Prospect: How does that work?

You: Let’s set up a time to talk so I can learn a little more about you and how I may be able to help!

Using questions allows you to have a meaningful conversation without the need to “explain” anything.

Need a side job?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I am facing a new chapter in my life. I’m recently divorced and have finally given myself permission to follow my desire in terms of a business. I know I have all the tools, but I need some time to put it all together and build.

My question is this: during this time as I build and map out, I have to generate some income in order to pay bills while I launch this new project. As it pertains to the laws of the universe, would it be OK for me to generate money doing work to support this initial step even if it’s not my true passion, but that can support this process at this time?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi!

This is a fantastic question and the answer lies within the concept of setting strict boundaries for yourself in terms of time and money and “thinking like success”.

It is absolutely fine and sometimes necessary to do work in one area while transitioning into another. However, there are a few things that need to take place to make sure this decision doesn’t end up sabotaging your desires or even side-tracking them.

First: Set your goal and stick to it.

Do your research and find out exactly how much money you need to earn to finance your new endeavor. Plan how you’re going to set that money aside (perhaps in it’s own savings account that is not to be used for anything).

Second: Set a definitive date by which you will completely transition. This date must be FIRM.

Third: Calendar! Make sure you are calendaring ALL of your business planning activities. This needs to be a priority. Do not let anything distract you from this.

If you follow these 3 steps, you’ll have the capital and the plan in place to completely transition into doing what you truly love!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Focus on WHY

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Mary B.

Neagle Code Question

I have a full-time job, have a desire to grow my virtual business and even work a part-time tutoring math. Do you feel it is possible to desire multiple things at once, or do we only have so much energy to give and should we focus it to maximize desired results?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Mary, and thanks for your question.

I think it’s first important to get an understanding of WHY you want to be doing all of these things.

What’s your motivation behind working a full-time job, growing your business and tutoring?

Are you doing all of these things because you truly love them all?

Or are your motivations due to something else?

I have a hard time believing that you’re equally passionate about all three. So get really clear and honest about why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Ask yourself if you’re taking part in these businesses because you really love them or because you feel you SHOULD, you need the money, or you hope others appreciate you for your HARD WORK.

Do you have a belief that you can’t do what you love AND make money?

Are you creating distraction and chaos to keep yourself small?

You see, what you’re doing right now is chasing multiple bunnies.

You will get your best results when you can focus on ONE business and give all your energy to it.

Once you get clear on that, choose the one business you’re most passionate and inspired about and then give it your ALL. Burn the ships and don’t let anything stop you or stand in your way of achieving your goals.

The truth is that once you have a deep emotional desire for something and then EXPECT that desire to manifest, the Universe will respond. Emotion puts everything in motion, and if you’re not passionate about your business, you most likely won’t get the results you’re hoping for.

How to set proper boundaries in your business and personal life

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I feel like my business is swallowing me up, and it’s to the point now that I can’t see a difference between my personal life and my business life. Even my friendships and relationships are steeped in my business to the point where I feel like I can’t have a genuine conversation without someone in my life asking for coaching or business tips. I know I need to untangle this, but am unsure of the steps.

Thanks!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for this question.

The fact that you see your business life and personal life as one is a key indicator that you have not set proper boundaries for your life and in your relationships.

Your business life should be your business life, and your personal life should be your personal life.

Here are some suggestions on how to set proper boundaries.

1) Have a set start and end time to your day. Do not let your work invade your personal time. Work will always fill the time you allot it, so you may find that you are much more efficient when you have a limited time to work on your business. Use your calendar and stick to it!

2) Get involved in something outside your business. If you like travel, join a travel club. If you like to read, join a book club. If you like to hike, join a hiking club. This will expose you to people who know nothing about your business, but still share the same interests that you do. They won’t want anything from you except your thoughts on your favorite destination, book, or hiking trail.

3) Schedule time with your current friends and gently let them know that you’re not open to a conversation about your business, and you don’t feel you can be their coach and their friend at the same time. You’d much rather be their friend. If you’re worried about what you’ll talk about, think about purchasing a small box of conversation starters. They are great to spark new and interesting conversations.

4) Do some journaling about who you are outside of your business. You need to begin to realize that your business is not your identity.

Is your business on life support? What to do with limited time

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Elaina.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I am running my business from home with two small children. I am struggling to get on the computer every night after they are both asleep. I manage to carve out five hours a week for myself. My business is on life support right now, and I’m frustrated. My question is: if you only had five hours a week to focus on your business, what would you do?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Elaina!

The truth is, I think you’re asking the wrong question…

I don’t know of any successful business owners who have obtained their success by working
five hours per week on their business.

You’re certainly not setting yourself up for success that way.

I suggest you first get clear on your goal.

Do you want a small side business, or do you want a thriving business?

If you want to run a successful and thriving business, you may want to hire help to come in and care for your children so that you can focus on that goal.

Bringing in childcare, even for a few hours per day, would make a massive difference in your business.

Look at what else you’re doing that is taking you away from business building and sales opportunities.

These are the things you’re using as an excuse to stay small.

Have you:

•  hired a cleaning service?
•  hired a lawn service?
•  hired a personal assistant?

You see, if you are spending your time doing all those things, you are not in your own brilliance, and your time is being wasted when it could be used to create what you REALLY want in life.

It sounds to me that in order to truly build your business, you need to build in support for yourself so that you can be the captain of the ship, rather than a passenger.

Can you give yourself permission to do that?
