C’mon: Bring It!

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Angela Durrant. You can find her on the web at www.angeladurrant.co.uk.

Whenever I am looking to move to another level, get out of my comfort zone, aim to up level my business, or grow personally. I seem to be bombarded with family crisis. Generally my partner gets ill. On this occasion as I am looking to create my first product, my partner has become seriously ill. My daughter aged 5 got sick as I was about to do my 1st teleclass. I can see a pattern as this has gone on a few times. I would suffer guilt in the past and feel torn that I wasn't making the family a priority – yet I am the sole income earner in the family currently. Other than plough on through it, how am I contributing to this? (if I am?) How do I move forward without such challenges to always overcome?

Hi Angela and thanks for the fantastic question. I KNOW many entrepreneurs can relate to what you are experiencing.

First, it's important to recognize that you create everything in your life; all the good and all the not-so-desirable.

Your subconscious is creating this because it knows it will stop you. It's worked in the past, and therefore, the pattern continues to persist.

The key to stopping it is to NOT let it stop you.

Let me explain. The purpose of your ego is to keep you safe and exactly in the same place as you are right now. As long as a distraction works, the distraction will persist.

In order to shift out of this pattern you have to adapt a different attitude. Instead of feeling guilt and trying to figure out why you always have these obstacles, stand strong, and take a bring-it-on mindset.

Tell your ego that you see what's happening and it's not stopping you this time. That no matter what it throws at you, you will continue to move forward.

In doing this, your ego loses its power over you and the pattern will be broken. You will actually feel your energy shift as you say, “BRING IT ON!” Energetically you move from victim to incredibly empowered.

Also, keep in mind, that you will ALWAYS have challenges to overcome. Be grateful for them, as they are the catalysts of your growth!

  1. I always love what you have to say. I wanted to share this article on my Facebook and Twitter, but I don’t see your “social sharing buttons” listed here. I will copy and paste for now, but social share buttons make it so much easier. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks Nina! I appreciate the shares and I will check with my team about those ‘easy share’ buttons. We definitely want it easier for you to share with those who could benefit from the teaching.

  2. Angela,

You have the Upper Limit Problem. Read “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks. His whole book is about this, he coined the term. Every time people try to go beyond their limit, they manifest all types of problems for themselves, including the situations you’ve described. It’s your subconscious holding you back. Very helpful book on how to get rid of your Upper Limit Problem. Hope this helps!

    • Thanks for the post Ling. It’s like how I explain it to those who work with me, New Level, New Devil. When you are preparing for an uplevel in your life all hell breaks loose, and your ego makes every effort to stunt that progress. It’s those who identify it for what it truly is, and step through it that achieve the success they so desire. Happens all the time, and will continue to happen, because growth never stops.

      • This is what I needed to hear, thank you, David. Every time I prepared to do what I love to do one of my kids would get sick. I’m a single mother, so sick kids mean I have to drop everything to take care of them. I didn’t know why this happened, I didn’t know about this “upper limit” thing or this “ego-sabotaging” before. Now that I know what is happening I will know what to do. Thank you.

  3. Thank you both, Angela and David.
I loved how David can put it so simple and how easy Ego can get comfortable and try to play safe. Your answer has shed so much light on my own experiences. Thank you again.

    • That’s great Juan. What will you do with this information? It’s one thing to be aware of it, but an entirely different thing to act on it.

    • That’s your new mantra Prem. Use it often and when you feel like you are close to stopping, get up from your desk and scream it out loud. That is an indescribable shift in energy that confirms you are ready and willing to accept all that you desire. I appreciate the post!

  4. I had this very thing happen to me this weekend! I was planning to open my store up for a big “let go” sample sale to make room to take the Blue Elm Clothing Brand to the next level. Out of the blue my 10 year old daughter spiked a 102.6 fever. In the past it was my other daughter who would get sick. This time I thought – No this won’t stop me. I was keenly aware of the pattern through my work with my personal life coach, Karen Carey. How can I press on? What do I need to do right now. I called the doctor, made my daughter as comfortable as possible. I administered all kinds of love and then decided I needed to rest while she was resting. I figured I’d bring her to the doctor in the morning and my husband offered to stay home with her so I could get to the sale. Worse case, I’d postpone it and implement the cool ideas that came to me while I was resting. Much to my surprise, she woke up without a fever ready to take on the day!

    • Thank you for sharing Valerie, and congratulations on your awareness and your opening. It was in that moment where you took stock of the situation and moved forward that created this shift. You noticed it, had faith that all would be well, and stepped into it. That is how it should be from this point on. Yes it will happen again, and yes you will move through. Way to go!

    • It’s only hard Kristi if you make it so. Get comfortable being unconformable and you’ll be surprised by your reaction to situations and the growth that comes from it. I appreciate the post and would love to hear how it goes for you.

  5. “Tell your ego that you see whatโ€™s happening and itโ€™s not stopping you this time.” I emphasize THIS TIME. Because I tarred and feathered myself in gobs of my past. So its refreshing to strip all that away and be fresh and light to face my challenge NOW.

And your phrasing “tell your ego” allows me to liberate my aliveness to talk to its opposite as a separate voice and override ego. So now I will develop the technique of separating my 2 inner voices so I will have more clarity and control over my ego.
