The Power of Pause

Nothing in nature plays small

An oak tree, in the right conditions, will grow to be the biggest, best oak tree it can be.

A rose, in the right conditions, will grow to be the most beautiful rose it can be.

Yet, people
constantly
play small.

We are the only species on the entire planet that gets in the way of our own purpose.

Why is that?

I think that Tim Grover, in his book, Relentless, put it best when he said, “We’re born bad, and we’re taught to be good.” I think that it is right on, and the next 4 articles will unpack exactly what this means.

For starters, we all come into this world with this relentless urge to grow, to succeed, and be everything we were put here to be. Grover calls that “being born bad”.

Then, we learn to relent to the rules, beliefs and values of our family. Grover calls this “learning to be good.”

In that mindset, we’re taught only to be safe, to be secure, to fit into the community. The problem is, this is not what we were born to do and it is not within our nature.

Naturally, we have all these desires to fulfill, to play big instead of small, and be the best we can be. I don’t mean that in relation to anybody else—your focus should not be comparison. What matters is that you do the best you can to achieve your own unique purpose.

How do you move forward? Luckily, the universe is designed in such a way that you will naturally grow to fulfill your purpose, if you allow yourself. So, the first step is to uncover exactly what it is that’s holding you back, which I cover in my next two articles.

Until then, really think about all the instances in which you do something because of the fear of how someone else will react.

Before you make ANY decisions, pause and ask yourself, “Is this something I really want to be, do or have?”  If it’s not, SAY NO!

Until next week…
