Why are you choosing to play small?
This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life“ comes from Kristiani, Life Purpose Coach …
Question:
How do I overcome my tendency to play small and fear success? I know that I have a huge life purpose and could be of service to many if I could only get out of my own way!
Answer:
Great question, Kristiani, and one that I know many of my students can relate to.
Let’s start with truth.
We know that we create our own reality, and we can’t have a desire without the way to fulfill that desire already present. So, my question to you is…how is it serving you to stay small? Now, before you react, take a moment and really think about it.
What would happen if you really stepped into your purpose and became the huge success you know you would be?
Would it mean that your relationship with your friends or family would change?
Would it mean that you’d need to let go of something that you weren’t so sure you could let go of?
Would it mean that others may judge you?
You’re staying small for a reason, and it’s been a choice of yours to do so. The key to getting out of your own way is to become aware of what you are resisting. What are you not willing to do what’s keeping you stuck?
Once you become aware of your fears, you must reframe it.
You also have to understand that if you continue to stay small, you are doing a disservice to those people who are looking for your help. Remember, if you have the desire, the way to fulfill it is waiting for you.
It just starts with a decision to get very honest with yourself about why you are choosing to play small.

David,
I want to start a business but haven’t figured out what I could make money doing. They say to do what you love…but I’m not seeing it. The things I look at seem to overlap so much of what others are already doing – I’m afraid I won’t be unique enough. Where do I go to get to step 1?
What is it that really lights you up Sandra? In order to move forward you need to get really clear on what that is. Make the decision to go in a certain direction and the rest will be shown to you. Until you make that decision you will continue to be in this place of worry, fear, and doubt. Step 1 is your decision…
Wow, what an incredible insight, David! I too, have been playing small and got more than one light bulb moment when reading your answer! Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us all!
Thank you Angie; I appreciate your comments on the post. Now that you have seen the “light” and know that playing small serves no one, take the next step. What are you going to do now to start playing BIG?
Hi David…thank you for the reminder. I have come to realize that there is more to playing small then just fear of success there can also be core issues of low self-esteem and low self worth that do not allow us to play bigger and embrace all that is available to us. True it is there for the picking and we do create our own reality, however if our reality is clouded with self-doubt and disbelief and trust in ourself then we will continue to be blocked.
I loved your response to Sandra. I am pretty much in the same place. I have been on the fence about choosing “one thing” to focus on and I see how it has not allowed my business to grow and flourish. I just love so many things, however I am aware that is also a way of not choosing. I finally have made a decision and will be moving forward with it….I can’t wait to see what happens…thank you David for all that you do.
That’s great Lorraine! Thanks for sharing some of your story with us and I’m so happy that you have made the decision to move forward. If you find yourself stuck please let us know how we can be of service to you. We look forward to what is yet to come… Best of luck!
Thank you David…I will.
David,
Thank you so much for the information. I have been staying invisible, as I found out this week (Thank you Steph). I have been looking at that since yesterday and now choose not to be. I would say sometimes I fear the power that comes, but now feel strong, courageous, and confident that I can do this. I am a service to many. I am taking steps now to been seen and heard. Oh, but I realize I have the perception that others would not take me seriously. That came from when I was young and was small and cute. Now, I will be big and cute and confident. Thank you for this week’s lesson. You and your staff get to the point quickly and I like that! Love and Blessings, Karen
Glad to hear that awareness come from you Karen; being invisible serves no one. That is why we are here, to serve others to the highest of our abilities and make a difference with each person we connect with. My team and I see it all the time, and congratulations on making the decision to release that limiting belief and press ahead with courage and confidence. Speaking of which, have you had the chance to take part in my complimentary decision making series? If not, you may want to take a close look as it really helps in moving forward.
