Use the art of influence to grow faster

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Teresa.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David! I've recently taken a big leap of faith and left my J.O.B. to pursue my passion. I've gone from making a great salary (6 figures) to making nothing. I'll admit I'm a bit scared, but more excited about my future. I KNOW I can do this! What is the best advice you could offer me to really kick-start my new business?

Neagle Code Answer

Congrats on making the decision to pursue your passion, Teresa!

The best advice I can offer you is to master the art of influence.

Webster’s definition of influence is: a person or thing that affects someone or something in an important way.

I see too many new business owners throw all their time and energy into websites and marketing, and really if they would just focus on the art of influence, their business would grow so much faster.

If you master the art of influence, you’ll be able to understand your prospect, pinpoint exactly how you can help them, and enroll them into your programs…all without websites, systems or strategies.

Talk to as many people as you can, speak in front of groups and really get out there!

After you’ve built some capital and have a growing practice, then consider investing in a website, lead generation, and a team.

For now, focus on mastering yourself so you can master your ability to effectively and confidently communicate with your prospects and enroll them into programs that will change their life.

What to do when chaos controls your thoughts

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

I have recognized how comfortable chaos is for me. It’s startling to wake up and admit to myself that when I grow, I create chaos, and then I sit in that chaos until something forces me out of it. I use the chaos as an excuse to stop. I’d like so much to change this, but am not sure how.

Thank you.

Neagle Code Answer

What a fantastic question!

Here’s the good news…

You don’t need to create chaos every time you grow and stretch.

And the thing is…you can control it all by controlling your thoughts.

This is something I learned very early on in my own journey, and it’s why even today, I study profusely. Everywhere I go I carry my books with me.

You see your thoughts and emotions CREATE your circumstances. Most people have that backwards. They think that their circumstances “happen”, and then they allow those circumstances to control what they think and feel. This in turn just creates more of the unwanted circumstances.

The next time you stretch in your business or personal life, arm yourself with the TRUTH.

As soon as you feel your mind going into chaos, take control of those thoughts by studying the truth.

Read books like, Working With the Law by Raymond Holliwell, As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles, or even better, pop in one of my home study programs

The most important thing here is that YOU control your thoughts and your thoughts create your circumstances.

You see, THOUGHTS ARE THINGS.

Fill your mind with the truth and the chaos will stop.

What your finances say about your mindset

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I really, really desire a new car. But I also have credit card debt that I need to pay off. I hear your voice in my head telling me to act on my desire, but I also have a voice in my head telling me to pay off my debt FIRST. Am I thinking about this inaccurately?

Neagle Code Answer

Great question!

I think the real question here isn’t actually about where to spend your money; it’s a question of mindset.

You see, the lower and middle class mindset is steeped in the word “OR”.

They ask, “Should I do this OR should I do that?

They see limitation and lack.

The wealthy think in terms of “AND”.

They ask, “What would need to happen for me to do this AND that?” OR “What would I need to do differently so that I could have this AND that?

They see possibility and abundance.

I want to encourage you to think like the wealthy.

What are you resisting doing or being that would allow you to pay off your debts AND purchase the car?

That’s the question you must ask if you wish for your financial situation to change.

Why “the fear of success” is a myth

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Amanda B.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I recently heard you say that a fear of success is not real. And yet, I think I have a fear of success. I have every opportunity to have a thriving business, but when I get close to thriving, I put the brakes on. Can you explain to me how this is NOT the fear of success, because it sure feels like it.
 Thanks!

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Amanda,

First, I want to be clear. What you are dealing with is not the fear of success.

No one is afraid of success. You succeed in different areas of your life everyday.

What you are struggling with is the fear of what you believe you will need to leave behind in order to achieve success.

You put the brakes on because:

A) You’re worried about what people are going to think of you if you make a mistake

B) You’re worried about what people will think of you if you do achieve success

C) You’re worried about who you will need to leave behind if you seek your own success

D) You’re worried about what you will have to give up to accept success into your life

You see, it’s never about the fear of success, it’s about the stories you have around success.

Check in with yourself right now.

Ask yourself the following questions:

1) Who will I need to walk away from to be successful?

2) What risks will I need to take that may threaten my fear of what people may think of me?

3) What things will I need to walk away from that will no longer support my success?

4) Am I willing to do whatever it takes for my own success?

These questions will help you see how your sub-conscious mind is getting in your way of standing confident in your decision-making.

As soon as you shine the light of the truth on this, you’ll be able to see things in a whole new way!

How to use failure to succeed in life and business

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

David,

How do you learn to trust yourself again after “failures” when your sub-conscious very strongly keeps reminding you of those failures and constructs new ways of keeping you stuck?

Neagle Code Answer

Fantastic question!

Failure is simply a judgment placed on a result.

The real problem lies with how we THINK and FEEL about failure.

If you fail and attach emotional meaning to that failure, it will trigger a core belief about yourself.

You may even say things to yourself like:

“I’m not smart enough, I’m never going to succeed, I can’t believe this isn’t working, what’s wrong with me?”

“My parents were right…”

Or even

“ I don’t even know why I bother…”

This is how the downward spiral starts.

The truth is that failure is nothing more than a result.

And the purpose of that result is for our own learning. Begin to see failure as a GIFT.

Ask yourself:

What don’t I understand about this?

Who do I need to be to get a different result?

The most successful people in the world have experienced more failure than success.

After all, your own success lies in the ability to respond to results… to course correct and take risks in order to get different results without attaching emotions.

Why vulnerability can lead to a breakthrough

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Roger.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

In some of your recent teachings you talk about uncovering what your areas of resistance are. I’ve been taking a close look at myself, and I notice that I resist being silly and vulnerable. I very much want to be a speaker, and I can see how this resistance is affecting my ability to really step into that. Any advice on how to break through this?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Roger and thanks for your question!

What’s so bad about being silly?

I’m asking you to answer for yourself, because hidden in the answer to that question is the wound you’re trying to protect.

Let me explain.

When you speak from stage, or in any instance where you’re influencing people, you must come from a place of authenticity.

This means allowing yourself to be vulnerable with your audience. Allow them to really see you, because in you showing them that vulnerability is okay, you give them permission to be vulnerable as well.

You make an immediate connection with a prospect and they know you can help them because you were able to do something that they are afraid of.

Are you afraid to be seen as silly because you worry about judgment? Are you concerned about what people think of you?

If so, you’re coming from a place of getting approval and acceptance rather than a place of helping someone else.

My recommendation is for you to begin embracing your silliness. Look at where you can share personal stories and allow yourself to be more vulnerable.

Once you start doing this you’ll realize the impact it has on people, and you will gradually stop being afraid of the judgment.

Where to find the strength to be the real YOU

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Randt.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

How do you “be” the person you desire to be when your whole life has been filled with judgment, fear and pain? Where do you get the fortitude to step out of your paradigm and re-create yourself?

Neagle Code Answer

Thanks for the question!

The first thing to realize is that everything comes from within you. As children, we are taught to look outward for validation of what the world is like. But the truth is that all experiences come from inside of you.

You get to decide who you want to be and what you want your reality to be. It is not determined by anyone else but you.

But, your reality won’t change until you start making new decisions.

See your current situation as a place to work from. Even if you aren’t currently the person that you need to be to go where you want to go, you can choose to be that person now.

What kind of person has what you want?

What are their characteristics?

Once you have that list, make a decision to start adopting those qualities as your own and be that person all the time.

Your desire to change has to be stronger than the fear you are feeling.

Fear is an illusion; a result of false programming that formed your current reality.

Once you believe more in the Truth than you do your own story, change will be automatic.

How to strengthen your self-esteem

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hey David!

My intention is to have monthly events to make money, do what I love and grow my community. I am flying high at and after my events, on top of the world — until the day after when my negativity comes in. I start thinking that people don't like me anymore; I question whether they'll come back. It gets weird in my head. This is clearly an issue. I have been doing my best to stop it when it happens, breathe and bring in new thoughts. It's almost torture at times. I hate that I do this to myself but also happy that I am conscious of it now. So what I wonder, are there any additional techniques on how to flip the switch on these thoughts and interrupt the pattern — as well as stay in that I’m-great-and-did-a-great-job energy??

Neagle Code Answer

Hi! Thanks for your question and your honesty.

It’s wonderful that you are conscious of this pattern in your life, but you must do more than breathe and bring in new thoughts… you must build your self-esteem.

You see, the reason you feel on top of the world after your event is because you are feeding off of the energy and appreciation of the audience. Once that acknowledgement and appreciation fade, your wound re-appears.

A person with a fully developed self-esteem would speak from stage because that is what they are meant to do. They wouldn’t care who liked them or appreciated them.

I always tell my audience, that my job is not to be their friend, and I don’t care if they like me or not.

I know that I have a message to speak, and the people who need to hear will, and those that aren’t ready, won’t. Either way, at the end of the day, I feel good about me and the fact that I’ve given my best to help whomever is willing to listen.

For you, I’d suggest taking a deep look at your need for appreciation and acknowledgement.

Why do you need this from the audience?

Why do you need them to like you, when whether or not they like you is actually none of your business.

Once you begin to take steps to build your self-esteem you’ll find yourself becoming less worried about what others think, and more powerful from stage.

How to manage time to grow your business

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

My biggest struggle right now is time management. I need at least an extra 4-5 hours in each of my days. I want to spend time on money-making tasks, but there’s just so much to do. How can I manage my time better to grow my business?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for the fantastic question!

This is an issue I’ve addressed in a previous post, so I’m going to pull it forward and share it again!

I learned a long time ago that we can’t manage time…we must manage activities.

You see, work will always fill the time you allot for it. This is why one of the first things I teach my VIP Clients is the fine art of calendaring.

Let me explain… as entrepreneurs, there are so many things that can bombard us on a daily basis. Whether it’s making sales calls, handling client satisfaction, fulfilling orders or programs, marketing planning or dealing with our personal lives, there is ALWAYS something to fill our time.

One of the key strategies to ensuring money-making activities get done is to schedule those activities every day, and STICK TO YOUR SCHEDULE.

Start with calendaring the “non-negotiable” items first. These items can be up-coming travel, presentations, and other activities that are firm.

Next schedule all your money-making activities. These should include sales calls, strategy and launches.

From there schedule everything else.

In doing this you may even come to see that you actually have more time than you need or you may see opportunities to hire people to help you with the things you do not specifically need to be doing.

Once you have your schedule in place, you must discipline yourself to stick to it!

Sometimes this is the most difficult step, and if you find yourself straying from your calendar, take a moment to re-align yourself and course correct.

Can I trust my team members?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Isaiah.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I know that to grow my business I need to develop a team. I’ve never hired anyone before, and I’m really worried about trusting people with a business I’ve worked so hard to build. How much do I trust a team?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Isaiah, and thanks for the question.

The concept of trust is interesting, and the more I speak to entrepreneurs, the more I see how their lack of understanding of trust leads to sabotage.

It’s one of the reasons I’ll be teaching on this topic in my new Live and Let Live Virtual Training. Trust is a huge issue because it’s not actually taught to the majority of us…especially those of us who grew up in the Middle Class.

You see, trust MUST be earned.

To trust blindly in others is sheer ignorance.

Let me explain.

When you are building a team, you have to assume the role of leader.

A good leader interviews and screens potential hires carefully and strategically.

References are always checked.

After the hire is made, the leader gives the new team member opportunities to earn the leader’s trust until they have proven to be trustworthy.

This is your business, it’s your responsibility, and I see so many entrepreneurs hand over the keys to their business to people who have not demonstrated that they can be trusted.

Do your part to make sure the team members you are bringing into your business are a good fit, and be willing to give them opportunities to showcase their gifts and earn your trust at the same time.
