How to set small goals to overcome fear

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David!

I know what I have to do to grow my business, but every time I get the courage to pick up the phone and reach out to someone, fear stops me and I end up allowing myself to get distracted. I can think of every excuse in the book NOT to make a call. I don’t know what to do to overcome this. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Neagle Code Answer

Hi, and thanks for your question.

Here’s the truth, the fear isn’t going to go away or decrease unless you step through it.

One of the biggest gifts of being human is that we have the ability to choose.

You can choose to pick up the phone and reach out or you can choose to let fear be your excuse.

Regardless, it’s your choice.

The great thing about this is that you can start small and build momentum too.

Try setting small goals like speaking to one person today. Don’t let yourself go to sleep tonight without having checked it off your list.

You’ll begin to realize the only thing that makes picking up the phone hard is what’s going on between your two ears, and it will get easier.

Tomorrow, set a goal of speaking to 2 people, and gradually increase your goals as you build your confidence muscle.

Pretty soon that fear will be just a whisper.

But it’s not going to happen unless you CHOOSE to move forward regardless of how it “feels”.

Pick up the phone now, call a prospect and give yourself a fantastic experience!

The self-limiting word you need to nix from your 2016 vocabulary

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

What's the biggest difference you see between multimillionaires and those who are not financially free?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi!

Great question!

There are so many differences between a wealth mindset and one of lack that it’s hard to pick just one.

If I were to choose one that I think has been the most impactful for my students I would say it’s this:

A wealth based mindset thinks in terms of “AND” whereas a lack mindset thinks in terms of “OR”.

Let me explain…

When a wealthy person is faced with a decision or desire, they don’t limit themselves. For example if they would like to send their children to college and purchase a boat, the thought they would have is, “I would like to send the kids to college AND purchase a boat.”

And then they go to work planning how they can make that possible.

A lack-based mindset would approach it entirely different. They would say, “I could either send my children to college OR I could purchase a boat.” This is a limiting thought.

I would suggest you watch your thoughts closely and note how many times you feel you need to make an “or” decision, and change it to an “and”.

There is no limit to what you can be, do or have, so begin to think in terms of “AND” and see what changes!

How to handle family members who have broken your trust

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

I could really use your help with something. With the Holidays being in full swing, I know that I’m going to have to spend time with a family member who has done something hurtful to me this past year that proved to be very untrustworthy. I’m over the hurt (I think), but I do not trust them, and really don’t want to BE with them. I don’t want our brief time spent together to negatively affect my business. Do you have any suggestions?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi!

If someone has not earned your trust, or has broken your trust in the past, you can love them for who they are, but ultimately you have to make a decision about whether or not you want to spend time with them and share your life with them.

Trust should ALWAYS be earned.

The only way your family member can hold you back is if you make decisions based on what they think, rather than what you want.

If you find yourself caring more about what someone else thinks rather than what you think, you are holding yourself back.

But here is the most important lesson for you:

I want you to understand that if someone has broken your trust, chances are you’ve done the same thing to someone else and this situation is simply a mirror for you.

Remember you attract everything in your life from a place of who you are being, and to not take responsibility for part of the situation will only keep it alive and painful.

If you can see the truth in what happened, it will set you free.

How to end “paralysis by analysis” in your business

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David, and thanks for taking my question!

My problem is that I think I’m too comfortable. I believe I have a deep desire to build my own business, but it seems I stop before I even start… I spend my time “thinking” rather than “doing.” And I think it’s important to mention that I don’t NEED to bring in money. I do WANT to though…

Any insight you can provide would be extremely helpful.

Neagle Code Answer

Hi!

The truth in your situation is that you just don’t want it bad enough. You are content to stay where you are, and there’s nothing really that’s creating a sense of urgency for you.

In these instances, YOU have to create the sense of urgency.

Let me explain…

Until your burning desire is greater than you’re need for comfort, nothing will change. Growth is uncomfortable. Without the discomfort we don’t grow. And if you are not growing, it’s going to be nearly impossible to help someone else grow.

Ask yourself, what in your life is keeping you comfortable?

Is it a job you show up to everyday?

Is it your savings account?

Is it your safe group of people around you?

What specifically do you fall back on as that safety net?

In order for you to move past this you have to identify that safety net and burn it.

Then you have to fall deeply, madly and 100% in love with this desire you have to help people.

You see, the juice of life lies beyond your comfort zone…

As we grow and expand, we can then enrich the lives of others.

How do I get over “faith emptiness” in my business?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from William.

Neagle Code Question

Hi David,

Over the years I have read works by Wattles, Allen and Holliwell, and been trained by Proctor. More recently I have become very aware of your excellent and thought-provoking work and perspectives. I am grateful for this.

As a business consultant I believe I do good work with clients, but I cannot understand ‘faith'. I have no religious beliefs. I believe I'm a good person too and strive to help all people achieve the success they desire.

Because I seemingly have no faith and you mention God, source, and use other terms, how do I get over this faith 'emptiness' I have and really move forward in my life and business, please?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi William,

Without faith, you wouldn’t be able to create anything in your life. So when you say you have no faith, you are incorrect.

You had faith that you can help people and so you did.

Faith is an expectation.

If you’ve read Wattles, Allen and Holliwell, you will notice there is no mention of faith in terms of religion. The faith they speak of is a faith in the power of our own ability to create what we want when we want it. The power of our own belief in what is possible and how expectation (faith) is an integral part of anything that you create.

I encourage you to re-examine your understanding of faith, and release the idea that you must have faith in some outside force (God, religion).

Instead continue to study truth in terms of Universal Law, and practice having faith in The Laws.

In fact, I’d like to invite you to join my no-cost conference call (happening next Friday, December 11, 2015) – where I'll be teaching more on this topic, live!

Where’s the Money?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

Neagle Code Question

Hey David,

First off thank you for everything you are doing, your insights are helping me greatly and knowing where you came from encourages me.

You have said that we have the ability to bring in the amount of money to do what we need and want to do through creating a sense of urgency. When you say “bringing in the money” do you consider borrowing as a part of “manifesting money”? Just wanting to be clear on what options you are referring to so I don't shut out any opportunities based on old beliefs.

Thank you for your help. God Bless.

Neagle Code Answer

Hi and thanks for the great question!

The simple answer to your question is …yes.

Let me explain.

To manifest means to become aware that something already exists.

When you have a desire and it’s coupled with a sense of urgency, the Law of Polarity states that the way to fulfill that desire must also be present and possible. Which means, that the money you need for that desire is also present, you just may not be aware that it’s already here.

It may be hiding behind an opportunity, tucked away in your savings account, or with someone else.

Borrowing is a perfectly acceptable way to “bring in” money. Obviously I would advocate that you abide by the payment terms of what you’ve borrowed.

Remember, money does not come from people, it comes from Spirit THROUGH people.

How do I convince my prospects to invest in my programs?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Janet.

Neagle Code Question

Dear David,

I have a strong desire to build a successful business, but how do I convince my prospects to invest in my programs? I know, without a doubt, that I can help them, but no one is BUYING!! How can I make THEM see that I can help them get what they want?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Janet, and thanks for the great question!

The truth is…you should NEVER convince anyone to buy anything.

If you feel like you must convince, there are huge parts of your sales process that you’re missing.

Here’s a quick checklist to help you go from convincing (which never ends well), to influencing (which empowers).

1) Have you clearly discovered what they truly want?
Note: This should be their deep desire. It’s usually NOT the 1st thing they say they want.

2) Have you clearly explored with them what they think is stopping them from getting what they want?

3) Have they told you, in detail, what will happen if they don’t overcome this problem?

4) Have you excited the possibility that things can be different?

5) Do you have a clear understanding of their willingness to change?

6) Will your program or package support them in solving this problem within their desired timeframe?

If you can confidently answer these questions, and your prospect can clearly see the light at the end of their tunnel, there should be no convincing needed.

In fact, your prospect will be grateful for the conversation and desire to continue working with you!

And just a reminder…if you enter into a sales conversation with closing a sale on your mind, you’re not showing up in service to your client.

Add value to their life and value will be added to yours.

That in itself can make all the difference.

I work and hustle for success. Am I being irresponsible?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Bryan S.

Neagle Code Question

Dear David,

I have been passionate about building my business. I invest, I work hard, and do my best to provide for my family. And yet, I overhear people talking about how I’m being irresponsible…

I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. Am I really being irresponsible to want to build a successful business?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi Bryan.

The short answer is:

No, you’re not irresponsible.

Let me explain.

The definition of responsibility is the ability to respond. If you are investing AND willing to do what it takes to respond and pay back those debts, you are absolutely NOT acting irresponsibly. Now if you were to go down to the local Wal-Mart and spend your life savings on a bunch of TVs and Doritos without any thought of how you were going to pay for it, THAT would be irresponsible.

What’s really happening is this:

When you change and grow, you force the people in your life to adapt to your changes. Your growth highlights where they are not growing and makes them very uncomfortable.

This in turn translates to one of two things.

Either they support your growth.

OR

They don’t support your growth.

It sounds like the people in your life who are calling you irresponsible are uncomfortable with your growth and passion.

You may want to re-evaluate your relationship with them, accept them for who THEY are, and make a choice based on what you want for your life.

It’s not a myth that you are a product of the 5 closest people in your life.

Should I put deadlines next to my goals?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from James P.

Neagle Code Question

Hello David!

Thanks for taking my question!

How do you determine what is reasonable when setting timelines for goal attainment? Or should timelines be left out of the equation altogether?

Neagle Code Answer

Hi James!

Sometimes, time is not a factor when setting goals, and other times, it’s important to do your research before setting that goal.

Some business owners use time as an excuse. They say things like:

“When I get x number clients, I’ll do z.”

This is a dysfunctional way of looking at time, and I certainly don’t recommend it, especially when a quantum leap can sometimes occur just by making a decision that time is NOT a factor.

If you do have a goal that requires time, for example, building a house, you must do your research and be flexible with your timelines.

Obviously it’s tough for me to guess at what your goal entails, but be honest with yourself.

Are you using time as an excuse or are you building in reasons to delay?

OR

Do you need to gather more information to see what tasks need to be completed to you to attain your goal?

A GREAT resource for you is the chapter titled, Desire, in Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich, especially if you’re setting a financial goal.

Happy goal setting!!

Start with small goals to break big habits

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Francesca.

Neagle Code Question

David,

I’ve simply stopped setting goals. I resist even thinking about goals because my pattern is to not follow through. It’s happened so many times, that I think to myself, “Why bother…you’re not going to do it anyway…”

How do I finally break this pattern?

Thanks so much!

Neagle Code Answer

Thanks for the question!

I’m going to skip trying to understand why you’re sabotaging yourself and go right to the solution.

If you’re really committed to changing this, do exactly as I tell you below and sooner rather than later you’ll be on your way to success!

First, start with DAILY goals.

That’s right. We’re not talking about 6 and 12-month goals right now, we’re going to start small and build to strengthen your self-confidence muscle over time.

Tonight before you go to bed, take out your notebook and pen and right down THREE things you MUST accomplish before you go to bed tomorrow.

I recommend that these be income generating “things”, but it’s ultimately up to you. Sometimes it’s best to start REALLY small.

When you wake up tomorrow, put that list in front of you, and DO NOT GO TO BED THAT NIGHT until all 3 of those items are completed.

You must be disciplined here…do not allow yourself to make excuses and DO NOT GO TO BED until you’ve checked those three things off your list.

Do the same thing tomorrow night. Write down three ”things” you need to accomplish the next day, and the next day, don’t go to sleep until all 3 things are accomplished.

Setting these small, yet important, goals are small stair steps to your bigger goal and to developing the discipline, confidence and trust within yourself to succeed in whatever you put your mind to.

Once you master the daily goals, begin setting weekly goals on top of your daily goals!

You’ll gain momentum quickly and break the pattern of not following through.
