Can I trust my own family?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Aubrey Raiford.

Question:

Hi David,

I'm trying to repair damage with a family member. I have forgiven them and moved past the hurt, but I don't trust them. Is this negative? Is this holding me back from moving forward?

Answer:

Hi Aubrey!

People must earn your trust.

It is not something that you give freely.

Whether we are talking about your family, friends, or random people in your neighborhood, to trust people blindly and implicitly is never a good decision, especially if they've shown you that they cannot be trusted.

If someone has not earned your trust, or has broken your trust in the past, you can love them for who they are, but ultimately you have to make a decision about whether or not you want to spend time with them and share your life with them.

The only way your family can hold you back is if you make decisions based on what they think, rather than what you want.

If you find yourself caring more about what someone else thinks than what you think, you are holding yourself back.

Lastly, I want you to understand that if someone has broken your trust, chances are you've done the same thing to someone else and this situation is simply a mirror for you.

Remember you attract everything in your life from a place of who you are being, and to not take responsibility for part of the situation will only keep it alive and painful.

If you can see the truth in what happened, it will set you free.

What if your life depended on it?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous

Question:

Hi David,

I am a business owner and I have not been making the calls I know very well how to do, and I know I should be making. How do you approach this conversation, and really help people get back to life? I have basically stopped making sales prospecting calls completely. The income is now way below my needs. I am stuck. How would you suggest I get back to being really productive again quickly and properly? I feel so dumb for allowing this to happen. I have had many big wins, some pretty high highs, but this has been worst decade of my life. Wondering if you have a thought you can share.

Answer:

Hi and thanks for your question.

The problem is not with your unwillingness to make sales calls. The problem lies with your sense of urgency to make those calls.

Let me explain.

Right now, it's serving you to not pick up the phone and do what you need to do.

Be honest, how does it benefit you to be in the situation you are in?

At first your conscious mind will tell you that I'm crazy, and of course it's not benefitting you to be “stuck”. But take some time and really think about what would happen, both good and bad, if you were to start picking up that phone and doing what you know you need to do.

You are creating this, and you are creating it because somewhere in your subconscious, you WANT to be stuck.

Whenever you doubt that, ask yourself this question, “If my child's life depended on me picking up the phone and making a sale, would I do it?”

If your answer is yes, then you know that you don't want your success bad enough to be willing to do what it takes.

You asked how would I suggest that you get back to being productive again.

I would suggest that you make a decision about what you want. The decision always comes first.

And I have a feeling that there is a decision in your life that you are resisting making and once you make that decision, your sense of urgency will increase and you'll pick up the phone and make the calls that are necessary for your success.

[Goal Setting Series]Article #9 ~ To Hell in a Handbasket?

The second you make a firm decision to embrace your desire, and you fully step into it, the universe responds immediately. It starts rearranging your life so that you can reach your goal and fulfill your purpose.

Some of that does not look or feel good.

Often there is a brief period of chaos. You may experience difficult situations or people close to you get sick.

That can be very challenging, because you're emotionally attached to the things and people in your life. You think, What the hell is going on? My whole world's falling apart!

It's difficult, but it is only temporary. It's like the turbulence you experience when you take off in an airplane.

The pilot comes over the intercom, saying, “Folks, we're experiencing some turbulence right now. I'm waiting to get clearance from air traffic control so that we can take you up and out of this.”

Meanwhile, you're gripping the seat rests or the hand of the person next to you, wondering when the hell it's going to end.

Then, all of a sudden, they get the all-clear. The plane soars to 36,000 feet, and it's smooth sailing from that point on.

The higher side of you understands this process, but your subconscious mind is freaking out. It can only go by the information with which it's been programmed ~ which includes belief in lack ~ so it perceives your goal as an impossible dream. It believes that what you're doing is dangerous, so it's trying to stop you.

You have to be ready for this, because your subconscious will cause you to think thoughts that are detrimental to your progress toward your vision.

You'll think, What's happening! I'd better stop. I shouldn't spend any more money! This is crazy. I can't do this! In addition you may feel fear, anger or overwhelmed.

The truth is everything is moving in the right direction. When you set your goals according to Universal Law, as I've been showing you, you are going for the biggest win of your life.

Just keep following what I told you in my recent series on the Seven Secrets of Multimillionaire Entrepreneurs.

Those ideas of desire, decision, belief and faith in a higher power, love, responsibility, will, and action, will keep you living in the higher side of yourself.

They will cut straight through the chaos and rocket you to your goal.

I stepped forward & the bomb went off!

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Donna Romero.  You can find her on the web at www.fortodaystimes.com

Question:

David, I am really hoping you can make sense of this. Over the past 1 1/2 years I have been one of those people who worked to make everything perfect.

I was just recently able to feel really ready and move forward on the goals for my new business.

Ever since the day I chose to get going, things have just been happening. My mom passed away, my brand new laptop crashed and the guys doing the repairs, well it's an ugly story … The store is now spending over $1,000.00 to try and retrieve information I have lost.
David, I know this means something. I am absolutely not going to let this hold me back over the long run, but I just want peace back.

Help please,

Donna

Answer:

Hi Donna and thanks for your question.

I've heard hundreds of similar stories and have even had my own experiences like this when I was first staring on my own journey.

What you are experiencing is the power of your ego.

Let me explain. Your ego's purpose is to keep you “safe”. It perceives any growth as a risk.

What you are experiencing is your ego trying to distract you, scare you, and convince you to stop.

Unfortunately, many people experience this chaos and think that Spirit is trying to tell them that moving forward is not a good idea.

They are dead wrong.

Spirit NEVER speaks to you through fear.

The only way to get control of the chaos is to stand up to your ego. This means that you need to move from being a victim of these circumstances to being empowered.

Yell at the top of your lungs, BRING IT ON, I AM NOT STOPPING! Take your control back.

You see, we create everything in our lives; all the good things and all the not so good things. If you allow yourself to be pulled into the emotions of the circumstances, you will create more of the same.

Shift your perspective and energy and your world will shift with you.

[Goal Setting Series]Article #8 ~ A New Way of Life

If you've taken each step in this goal-setting series, you've used fantasy to receive your prosperous goal, decided that you are ready and willing to manifest it, invested yourself emotionally in your goal, and begun to raise your level of awareness.

By now, the Universe has probably already brought you the opportunity that will lead to manifesting your goal.

As I said last time, this is where faith becomes crucial.

If your opportunity requires you to do something that you don't want to do, you may decide that things aren't all that bad after all. You don't really need the thing you said you wanted.

This is a very predictable reaction. It's just your subconscious mind trying to keep you where you are.

Your task is to keep moving forward regardless.

Here's how you do that.

Decide, Change, Adapt, Grow

First, recognize that your opportunity is meeting you one level up from where you are.

Picture yourself at the bottom of a staircase. Your goal is at the top. All the stairs in between represent each of the opportunities that you have to step up and into in order to reach your goal.

Let's say you're a filmmaker living in Des Moines, and your goal is to win an Oscar. The Universe has shown you the opportunity for your first step, which requires you to move to Los Angeles. If you like Des Moines, you might resist the change. You might feel reluctant to leave family and friends.

Yet, deep down you know it's the right move, so you step up and into the opportunity. You make the change and move to LA.

Then you have to adapt to the change, and the second you do that, you grow.

You're now standing on the second stair, and you see your next step, the opportunity that will take you to the third stair. Again, it requires you to take a risk, but your faith is stronger so you may spend less time contemplating your fear

You decide to embrace the opportunity, make the change, adapt to the change, and grow.

You then follow this same pattern all the way to the top.

Remember that you will only ever see your next step, because each one requires you to grow into its challenges before the following one can be revealed.

Also, your dream is in a constant state of transformation as well. Your goal may change as you grow. You may realize that what you really want is to make brilliant, moving films that impact people's lives, and the best way to do that may not lead to the red carpet.

No matter. You don't have to know that now. Your goal of winning an Oscar gets you on the staircase.

It starts you on a journey that represents a new way of being ~ living in faith and becoming the person you are meant to be.

That process won't ever be easy, because your subconscious mind will resist each change, but you can become comfortable being uncomfortable. I'll talk more about that next time.

In the end, however, it's absolutely worth it.

As you proceed toward your goal, you'll feel more alive, more prosperous and more of service than ever before.

Responding to: That’s a lot of moolah objection

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Jake.

Question:

Hi David,

I did your Art of Success, which was awesome :), but here's where I get stuck. I HATE asking people for the money! Over the last 30 days I've done 32 discovery sessions, and none have turned into committed clients yet, despite them all being interested and highly targeted, qualified leads.

Even when I mention the programs I have, people get all excited and then they baulk at the price. I know how to convey value as I'm a copywriter and do this very successfully for others. I know what to say, but somehow when people resist the price, even though I counter what they are saying by painting a picture of how they will be stuck in the future if they carry on as they are…it's still a ‘It's a LOT of money'.

So, my immediate reaction is to give them a program brochure, and ask them to book themselves in to my diary themselves.

I just don't want to seem pushy!
What should I do?

Answer:

Fantastic question!

The true problem is that your fear of what someone is going to think of you is negatively affecting your ability to have a powerful sales conversation.

If you care more about how you are perceived than you do about helping people you won't be aware of specific questions you can ask to overcome the “It's a lot of money” objection.

If you weren't afraid of being pushy, you would have responded to “It's a lot of money.” with “Compared to what?” instead of backing off and handing out your brochure.

You see, “It's a lot of money.” is a conditioned response people use when faced with a decision that leads to their own growth. So you then have to ask them another question to see what the true objection is.

If you were to ask, “Compared to what?” you would be able to see how they are making their decision and allow you to redirect the conversation.

Step into being powerful and confident in your next sales conversation, and you will be amazed at the win-win conversation that will take place.

Always remember, sales is not doing something TO someone, it's doing something FOR someone.

If I believe our natural resources are limited, can I also believe in abundance?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Deb Kolb.

Question:

Hi David,

I've listened to some of your videos and am having a conflict with something that I'm hoping you can help me to see more clearly.

I am passionate about conserving our precious resources, which comes from a belief that the resources on our planet are finite. Everything I hear & read points in that direction. There certainly is plenty of evidence that our resources are finite.

I hear you talk about private jets, mansions, 5 star hotels and spending money in ways that seem totally irresponsible and frivolous, in the face of limited natural resources. From the finite resources viewpoint (which until now i have accepted as fact and not a viewpoint), it seems crazy to use our limited resources in that way. I conserve everything because of this viewpoint. I am definitely not living as though there is abundance, just the opposite.

Can you please help me to see what I cannot see about abundance? Are our natural resources really not finite?

Answer:

Hi Deb and thanks for your question!

It is very interesting when you study the Universe because you begin to realize that some very basic truths run under everything. The Universe operates according to very exact Laws. We can only perceive our world to the degree that we are aware of these Laws thus the Laws never change, only our awareness of them.

We are programmed and guided through our life by our five senses; we see, hear, smell, taste and touch.  In a very real way we become handicapped by these senses because it becomes difficult for us to perceive and believe beyond what our senses tell us is true or real.

Because we are so lead by our physical senses we tend to form the opinion that anything beyond the physical isn't substantial enough to be considered real or realistic. Only the physical that can be weighed and measured is what is most important to be considered when evaluating life, the resources we need to survive and thrive as a planet and species.

What we greatly tend to misunderstand is that everything is in a constant state of motion for the single purpose of life, and that nothing exists in our Universe outside that premise.  This is the concept that I begin all my teachings from.  Everything is for MORE LIFE.

This means that the Universe is abundant in knowledge and everything that is required for MORE LIFE to be possible.  By the Law of MORE LIFE it cannot contradict itself.  You cannot have two opposing truths in the Universe because they would cancel each other out and everything would cease to exist.

We have developed the belief, through time and lack of understanding of these great Laws, that we live in a limited Universe.  It's difficult to perceive beyond what our senses tell us is true; however science will tell you that everything we perceive through our senses is only limited by the sense itself and not the thing we are perceiving.

If you come from a finite belief then that is what your experience of the world will be, which is very similar to a lack mindset. If you believe in lack and worry about lack, your experience will mirror that to you.

If you come from an infinite belief then that is what your experience of the world will be. This again is very similar to a belief in abundance. If you see abundance everywhere and know that you are not limited, your experience will mirror that to you in the same way and your life will be abundant.

There can't be two opposing truths.

[Goal Setting Series]Article #7 ~ Increase Your Level of Awareness

If you've been making the most of this goal-setting series, you've used fantasy to receive your prosperous goal, indicated that you are ready and willing to manifest it, and begun to invest yourself emotionally in it.

I told you last time that in order to realize your vision, you have to shift your perception by raising your level of awareness.

When your awareness rises to the level of your goal, it shows up. It's yours.

The process I'm about to teach you is not just about achieving this one goal. It's about becoming aware that you have the ability to reach any goal.

Kick-Start Your Level of Awareness

Your first step to reaching your goal is identifying where you are. What is your current conscious level of awareness in relationship to your goal?

For instance, if you have a money goal, your current level of awareness would be the most money you, alone, have ever earned in a year. You wouldn't consider your spouse's income or bring anything else into the equation. This is about your awareness.

If your goal were to take a year-long cruise around the world, your conscious awareness would be the longest or most exotic cruise or vacation you'd ever taken.

In other words, your conscious level of awareness is the closest you've ever come to your goal.

The other part of determining where you are in relationship to your goal are your current results.

Using the money example, that would be what you are earning this year.

The most you ever made ~ your current awareness ~ and what you are earning this year ~ your current results ~ comprise where you are.

Now, imagine that you've written your goal at the top of a piece of lined paper and your current awareness and results at the bottom. Each of those lines in between represent a rise in your level of awareness toward your goal. When your awareness reaches the top, your goal manifests.

This can happen quickly or slowly. It's really up to you.

Raise Your Awareness

Raising your level of awareness is actually very easy. All you have to do is become aware of where you are, and then make a decision to go to the next level.

For instance, if your goal is $500,000, your current awareness is $100,000 and your current results are $80,000, decide to rise to $150,000.

Make a firm decision, and then expect the opportunity to show itself.

The Universe hears that you are ready and brings you the opportunity for your next step. You won't see how to reach your ultimate goal, only your next step.

This is where faith becomes very important. Your opportunity might require you to move across the country or walk away from your employment and do something different.

Many people freeze at that point. They're afraid to move forward without a guarantee, so they don't accept their gift.

They miss out on the new, bigger life that is waiting for them ~ that they are asking for, that they decided they wanted.

It doesn't have to be that way.

You can learn to thrive as you take advantage of each opportunity and increase your awareness ever closer to your goal.

I'll show you how to do that next time.

What do I charge my very first client?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

After attending your event, I've changed drastically, both personally and in my motivation to change the world. I have an opportunity to start working with a client, but this will be the first time I've worked in this capacity as my own employer (aka setting my own fees). Is it out of integrity to charge this person, given that I've never created my own exclusive program before, or is it coming from lack NOT to charge this person for my services? Thank you so much!

Answer:

Hi and thanks for your question!

If you made the decision not to charge for your services, I don't necessarily believe that the decision would be coming from a place of lack; however, I think it would be coming from a place of fear.

Be honest.

Do you have a fear that this first client will think you're too expensive if you charge?

Are you worried that you're not “good enough” to charge?

Are you afraid of the sales conversation?

Are you concerned that your first prospect will think you're “salesy” if you collect money for your services?

I teach all my coaching students that pricing should not be based on logistics; it should be based on the value of the outcome your client is to receive.

So ask yourself, how will my prospects life be changed after working with me? What is the value of that?

I see many people just entering the industry giving their services away for free only because of some inner fear.

There are several problems with this.

1) People value things they have to invest in and are more motivated and willing to do what needs to be done to experience change. If they haven't paid for your services there is a high possibility this person will quit, not get their results, and then blame you.

2) When a client doesn't pay for your services, there is not an equal exchange of energy, therefore, what tends to happen is you will spend a lot of time with this client and then end up resenting them because you are not being paid even though you did not ask to be paid.

3) You're looking to find validation and appreciation instead of to provide a service. This is a dangerous pattern, and it makes it very difficult to begin charging.

My recommendation would be for you to determine the value of your service (based on the outcome your client will receive), price it as such, and be confident in your sales conversation. (My CompassionateConversion.com home study is a great tool to help you do so.)

Always remember: Transformation begins with the commitment, and people commit financially.

I keep giving my expertise away for nothing!

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Erin.

Question:

Hi David,

Thank you for your guidance! I am a nutrition coach and also an elementary school teacher. I am often approached by friends/co-workers/acquaintances with questions about weight loss and management. I am passionate about my expertise and love to converse about these topics, however; when asked to provide more personal advice, I am uncertain about the best way to shift from an inquiring acquaintance to a client. Should I just outline my services and costs verbally? Email? Pamphlet? Your thoughts are much appreciated!

Answer:

Hi Erin, and thanks so much for your question!

I would like to take this moment to introduce you to your two new best friends…

THE QUESTION.

And

THE BOUNDARY.

You see part of your problem is that you're not in control of the conversations you're having with your friends/co-workers/acquaintances. You're allowing them to be in control. And the other part of the problem is that you're not setting clear boundaries about what you will and will not give away for free.

And the only way for you to regain control is to bring in the QUESTION.

I cover this in-depth in my training called Compassionate Conversion, but I'm happy to give you an abbreviated version here.

As soon as someone asks you a question, I'd like you to answer with a question. This allows you to be in control of the conversation, and positions you as an expert, rather than a friend/acquaintance/co-worker.

Example:

Co-worker: What's the fastest way to lose 10 lbs.?

You: What's your biggest frustration with losing weight?

In just the simple asking of that question, you can immediately see what they are really wanting help with, and they can see that you've got their best interests at heart. Let's continue:

Co-worker: I just can't seem to stick with eating healthy. I've tried and tried, and every time I last 2 weeks, and then end up eating Oreos.

You: I see. There are a number of reasons that can be a factor when trying to lose weight. Based upon what I know about you, I think I can help. I have a program I think could really help you kick the Oreos to the curb for good. When would you like to schedule a time to talk?

This sets a clear boundary that you're not going to solve all of their problems at no charge, and it maintains that you're in charge of the conversation.

Anyone in a “helping” profession can relate to this scenario, and the key is to use questions and boundaries to make sure that you're converting inquiries to clients.
