Question:

How do I find dependable, reliable people when building a team especially when they don't return calls or show up?

Answer:

Fantastic question!

First, you need to remember that you create your reality. So let's try to pinpoint what's going on here.

I need you to answer a few questions, and it's REALLY important that you take some time with these questions and allow yourself to be honest.

Question #1: Do you really want a team?

Are you willing to give up certain aspects of your business and TRUST that someone else can do them?

The reason I ask this question is because a lot of entrepreneurs say they want a team, and yet, they are afraid of establishing a team and delegating at the same time. They'll say that they want someone to help them, and yet they don't want to give up the reins or simply don't trust others to do what they are asked to do.

Over and over I've heard entrepreneurs say, “If I want it done right, I might as well just do it myself.” That kind of thinking is based in lack, and will never allow you to attract effective team members.

You're really sending mixed messages when your intellect is telling you that a team is needed, but deep down, you're afraid of taking on a team.

Question #2: Do you effectively communicate your expectations to your team?

Believe it or not, team members are not mind readers. If you want something done, you must be able to explain your requirements or vision for the task and give a clear deadline.

Don't forget, communication goes both ways. It's also important for your team members to know that you value their thoughts and opinions as well.

I've seen many teams implode due to lack of communication, and it's really unfortunate (and preventable).

Question #3: Are you getting what you pay for?

When entrepreneurs first begin to think about adding team members, more often than not, they are at a place in their business where they can't really clearly see how they can add a team member and pay them at the same time. They must take a risk in hiring someone to allow for the continued growth of their business.

This is where the problem comes in.

They don't see the new team member as an investment in their company, and they look for the “least expensive help” they can find. They base their hiring on price rather than quality.

Who do you think gets a better return for their money; someone who hires an entry level VA who's not familiar with their business at $25.00 per hour, or someone who hires a VA who's experienced and understands business at $75.00 per hour?

ALWAYS make decisions based on where you want to go rather than where you are right now, or you'll always be stuck right where you are right now.

So, in short, EXPECT to find a team member who identifies with the vision of your company, TRUST them to do the tasks that you effectively communicate to them, and be willing to PAY them for their expertise.

Hi David! Thanks so much for this Saturday morning kick in the pants…

Here’s my question. Over the last year I have set goals, and for the most part, hit them. However, each time I reach a goal, I feel a new set of fears bearing down on me. I keep thinking that if I could just be successful enough or make enough money, the fears will go away and my life will be easy. Is this accurate thinking or am I a fear addict?

Answer:

Great question and congratulations on your growth and success!

What you’re experiencing is what I like to call “New level, new devil”.

Many people have a common misunderstanding that once they hit a certain point in their business; everything suddenly becomes a bed of roses.

The truth is that every time you change, adapt and grow, you experience fear. It’s a natural part of the process. Remember, your ego sees growth and change as a threat, and therefore creates the illusion of fear to keep you exactly where you are.

As an entrepreneur, you MUST get comfortable being uncomfortable.

So the MOST important thing to remember as you’re going through the terror barrier each time, is that whatever you focus on will grow.

If you give energy to the fear by trying to fight it or figure it out, you will manifest reasons to feel fearful. If you focus on the success, you will manifest opportunities to be successful.

Here’s your cheat sheet on coping with the fear.

When you feel yourself going to that dark place, instead of fighting it, which only gives energy to it, greet it like an old friend, and say, “Thanks fear, it’s nice to know you’ll always be there for me, but today I’m going to focus on something else (love, my successes, what I’m grateful for, etc).”

Pretty soon, the fear will take a back seat, and you’ll get so good at redirecting your thoughts, that the next time you feel the fear bubbling, all you have to do is think, “NEXT!”, and quickly move to a thought steeped in love or gratitude.

1)Fear is a lie.

and

2) Spirit NEVER speaks to you through fear.

When you begin to experience fear, become aware of what it really is.

A lie cannot hold up in the light of the truth.

Question:

What do you suggest for those who have yet to make any money at all from their business?

Answer:

This is a question that has popped up often in the past, but I think it’s extremely important for EVERYONE, no matter how much they’ve made in their business. It’s one of THE keys to business success.

You’ve probably heard me talk about the importance of knowing where you are, right? Well, in this case if you’re going to set goals for yourself, it’s important that you get very honest with yourself about where you are right now in your business and your life.

Once you’ve done that, set your first goal. It could be a financial goal, “I’m going to make $1,000.00 this month.”, or it could be a benchmark goal, “I’m going to gain one new client this week.” It really doesn’t matter, as long as you can see yourself attaining the goal.

You must be able to get behind it emotionally for you to truly to EXPECT your DESIRE to manifest. (Remember manifestation is a two part process: desire and expectation.)

After you’ve set your goal, you MUST TAKE ACTION. This is the place that trips up most people. I have many students that tell me they know what they should do, but they just can’t make themselves do it. This place is what I call your blind spot. You know you should be doing something, and yet, you catch yourself on Facebook instead of making sales calls.

Once you’ve taken action, you ADAPT to what happens because of that action, and you remain open to new opportunities.

The cycle then repeats beginning with you setting a new goal, “I’m going to make $2,000.00 this month.”, and pretty soon and in a very short time, you’ve created a successful business.

The time it takes you to build that business depends on how quickly you move through the steps, and how long you allow yourself to flounder around before getting help if you need it.

The great thing about this cycle is that it pertains to new business owners who haven’t made a cent in their business, and it also rings true for entrepreneurs who are already at the 5 or 6 figure mark. It’s the same for everyone. And it’s what I use to help my students achieve their dreams both financially and personally.

So, I guess the question would be; why aren’t you making any money in your business?

Abundance is all around you.

Question:

How do I convince myself that I’m worthy of increasing my prices and receiving the financial success that I so dearly desire? I think somewhere I have a belief that I don’t deserve financial freedom, because even though I want it, it eludes me.

Answer:

You don’t have to convince yourself of anything. You just have to look at Truth.

The truth is that you are a divine being, created in the likeness of Spirit, God, Allah, or whatever spiritual belief that you subscribe to. You are worthy of everything and anything that you want.

This is TRUTH.

What made Bill Gates or Oprah worthy of their riches? They are the same as you.

Nothing separates you other than your own perceptions and beliefs.

The fact that you are even asking this question shows that somewhere a message got handed to you that you agreed with. The message could have been that you need to work hard for anything in life, or that you weren’t good enough, smart enough, or pretty enough. Your self esteem was damaged, and you vowed that you’d never open yourself up to that vulnerability again.  Questioning worthiness comes from a place of being afraid to be seen or heard for fear of ridicule.

Imagine for a moment what your life would be like if you didn’t care what others thought. If you weren’t worried about making mistakes, looking like a fool, or being humiliated. How would your decision making be different? More importantly, how would your LIFE be different?

I encourage you to make a decision today that you ARE worthy. Don’t “convince” yourself.

Proclaim it.

Stand in your power, say it out loud, and continue to do so until small changes in your thinking and behavior begin to occur. Every morning, look in the mirror, and tell yourself that you’re perfect just the way you are and that NOTHING unworthy of God is worthy of you.

Treat yourself like the King or Queen that you are.

Accept nothing less than what you desire and take action as though you are filled with confidence.

Only then will you see your brilliance in this world and be shown the opportunities in life that will change EVERYTHING.

Because, my friend, THAT is the TRUTH, and Spirit wants you to have all that you desire even more than you than you want it for yourself.

Question:

David, I have decided that my first sign of success is the ability to manifest the funds needed to see you at a live event. You have been so motivational. Anyway, I do understand the subconscious and the conscious mind and the part they play. I also understand The Law of Attraction and spiritual nature. However, I struggle with the part the EGO plays and where it fits in with the big picture. HELP!

Answer:

Hi Donna and thanks for your question.

Your ego’s sole job is to keep you exactly where you are. Your ego perceives any growth or change as a threat to your survival, and it will immediately begin to bring up fears to control your decision making.

Let me give you an example, and let’s use your sentence about a manifesting the funds needed to see me at a live event.

The truth states that if you have a desire, the way to fulfill that desire is already present. Therefore, if you feel a deep desire to attend a live event, that desire is coming from Spirit. It’s a message being sent to you to help foster your growth and keep you on the path to increased consciousness.

The next thing that happens is your ego recognizes this desire as a threat, and immediately gives you many reasons why you shouldn’t go to the event. Reasons like:

• You don’t have enough money;

• It’s not the right time;

• You don’t want to travel, etc.

Because your ego is strong, you believe these excuses, and you stifle your own growth. You believe the lies your ego is telling you.

So let’s go back to the truth.

I’m sure you’ve heard me teach about manifestation. But let me just remind you that manifestation simply means “becoming aware of what already exists”.

And you also know the steps in manifestation.

Step 1 is MAKE A DECISION.

Until you make a “committed”, “accept-no-other-option” DECISION, nothing will happen or change for you. You can’t manifest the money for something without first making the decision that you are following through No Matter What! This is where most people trip up. They want the money BEFORE they make a decision. That’s not how Spirit works.

Step 2 is EXPECTATION.

You must make your decision and then expect your desire to manifest. You must expect it and be grateful for it as if it’s already here.

Step 3 is TAKE ACTION.

Your desire is not going to fall in your lap. This step is where your ego really kicks in. It will make you afraid to make those necessary sales calls. It will tell you that you’re not good enough. It will bring up any number of fears to keep you exactly where you are.

Something key to understand about your ego is that the truth will liberate you and your ego will keep you a prisoner.

Let me complete this lesson with a powerful quote that I love by Eleanor Roosevelt:

“You must do the things you think you cannot do.”

In other words …

Show your ego who’s boss, and give yourself a new experience which will set you free!

I always find this process for entrepreneurs so interesting. It seems everyone has their own story about how they experienced clarity around your question.

The truth is the same for everyone, though.

All the answers are within you.

You just need to be quiet, listen and watch for opportunities.

Ask Spirit what you’re here to do, and then journal, pay attention to your dreams, and become very aware of the conversations you’re having with people.

The Universe works in wonderful ways, and may even send you a potential client without you even realizing the opportunity.

From there get a clear picture of the ideal person you’d like to help. What is their pain? What are their symptoms?

Write all this down.

Identifying what your client is experiencing, is going to help you write copy and streamline your message. It will also help your clients to know that you’re the right person for them.

Next get clear on how your potential client’s life will be enhanced because of your work with them. What value are you adding to their life? What will they have gained from working with you?

I want to point out something here, and it’s very important.

Many entrepreneurs use lack of clarity as an excuse for not taking action. The truth is that you could be having conversations with people and offering to help right now.

So BEGIN!

The issue of retaining clients is a very critical success factor for any business particularly in my profession as a lawyer. Please delve more into this topic as I believe it to be a common problem that cuts across all professions.

Answer:

You’re absolutely right, retaining clients is extremely important.

And there are a few guidelines to follow when providing services to people that will keep them happy, interested, and getting the most out of what you have to offer.

Wallace Wattles, in his book, The Science of Getting Rich, sums it up when he elegantly states, “Give every person more in use value then you take from them in cash value. Then you are adding to the life of the world with every business transaction.”

I believe that the best way to retain clients is to provide advise, services and products that lead them to achieve measurable, significant results.

Without the results on their end, there's no reason for them to continue as paying clients.

Retention is about helping your client to succeed with results that they can see and credit straight back to your service.

You must ask yourself if the foundation of your business is set up according to the law of more life to all and less to none.

Another valid (and more common) strategy for retaining clients is to build a fence around them.

Let me explain…

You always want to let your clients know that you are thinking about them, and that you’re always looking for ways to add to their life.

It’s for this reason that I recommend providing your clients with a high quality content rich newsletter or ezine. This allows you and your business to stay in their awareness.

For your personal clients I recommend a high quality of customer service. If someone sends an email and doesn’t get a response from your business in a timely manner, they will begin to question how important their business is to you.

It’s also important to go the extra mile to recognize birthdays, successes, and tragedies.

Simple birthday messages means a great deal to clients, and if one of your clients experiences a loss, send them flowers or a hand-written card letting them know you’re thinking of them.

These few little additions to your business will go a long way in the eyes of your client, and the small investment it takes to add these “perks”, pays for itself over and over again.

If you feel like you’re doing all of these things and still have retention issues, you’ll need to re-examine the services that you’re offering and your own feelings and attitudes about your business.

If you’re not passionate about what you do, your client won’t be either.

I own an online retail clothing company, have a desire to grow my home-based internet marketing business and even work a part time job in timeshare sales (I know I’m exhausted just writing it). I am in a relationship as well that has taken its beating due to all my career aspirations. I am feeling so limited on the energy I can direct to all areas simultaneously and therefore, one or more areas ends up suffering depending on where I am directing my focus and energy at that period of time. Do you feel it is possible to give so much desire and positive energy to several different things that I really want to manifest in my life or do we only have so much energy to give and should we focus it to maximize desired results?

Hi Joanie and thanks for your question.

I think it’s first important to get an understanding of WHY you want to be doing all of these things.

What’s your motivation behind growing your retail clothing company, your home-based marketing business and selling timeshares?

Are you doing all of these things because you truly love them all?

Or are your motivations due to something else?

I have a hard time believing that you’re equally passionate about all three. So get really clear and honest about why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Ask yourself if you’re taking part in these businesses because you really love them or because you feel you SHOULD, you need the money, or you hope others appreciate you for your HARD WORK.

Do you have a belief that you can’t do what you love AND make money?

Are you creating distraction and chaos to keep yourself small?

You see, what you’re doing right now is chasing bunnies. You will get your best results when you can focus on ONE business and give all your energy to it.

Once you get clear on that, choose the one business you’re most passionate and inspired about and then give it your ALL. Burn the ships and don’t let anything stop you or stand in your way of achieving your goals.

The truth is that once you have a deep emotional desire for something and then EXPECT that desire to manifest, the Universe will respond. Emotion puts everything in motion, and if you’re not passionate about your business, you most likely won’t get the results you’re hoping for.

My assignment to you is to really get clear on WHY you’re splitting your energy between 3 unrelated businesses. This will allow you to see what needs to change more clearly.

Hi David. HELP! I know something isn’t working in my business. I feel like I’m doing everything I can, and nothing is happening. I’m not aware of a mindset block or any fears, and frustration is setting in. How can I part the fog and see what’s going on?

Answer:

Great question but difficult to answer as I don’t know what your unique situation is.

So, let’s dig a little deeper here, and bring in the TRUTH …

TRUTH: We manifest everything in our lives. (Meaning: we are responsible for everything that “happens” in our lives.) From the spectacular, to the unfortunate, to the inconsequential.

So what you are experiencing is something you’ve created because it serves you in some way.

(The beauty about taking 100% responsibility for painting the full picture of your situation, is that by taking responsibility you’re no longer a victim to your situation, but instead have the power to change it in one or in all ways!)

Plus, know this: If you’re not receiving the results you desire, you’re likely creating through the filter of multiple subconscious toxic patterns that are working against your best efforts to CHANGE. And, I accept entirely that you may be completely unaware of the patterns, or of the toxicity, or both.

So, let me ask you some questions, and please sit with them and answer them honestly …

1. Is it possible that you’re playing small so as to not draw attention to yourself, or to “out shine” your friends or family?

2. Are you disorganized, creating distraction, or finding yourself reacting to your day rather than having a plan for your day?

3. Are you hiding bills or investments from your spouse or partner, especially money you are investing for the growth of your business because you’re afraid of rocking the boat?

4. Do you get sucked into negative family paradigms and feel yourself being pulled down?

5. Are you building this business because you’re 100% passionate about making profit doing what you love, or do you care more about serving & assisting others?

6. Do you avoid asking people to pay you, because it feels uncomfortable or wrong?

7. Do you believe that your loved ones support you 110% in your ability to succeed, or do you worry that sooner or later you’ll let them down, or that they’ll become angry with you?

If you can answer yes to any of these questions, you have adopted toxic patterns that only serve to keep you exactly where you are.

The tough part about toxic patterns is that they are very hard to see for yourself. They may be habits that you’ve justified for years, and even created entire stories around. Most times, to release a toxic pattern you have to face something you’ve been trying to avoid for a long time … like being seen, being vulnerable, being a change agent, being the center of attention, or just simply being yourself.

It’s tough … and you’ll very likely need help & support to recognize which specific toxic patterns you’re repeating. But doing THIS WORK pays off in joy, abundance, peace, prosperity & freedom in spades!

Let me share with my belief that I first put into words for our “My Year To Break Free” virtual mentorship program; a program designed to open your eyes to the toxic patterns we’re discussing here. The quote is this:

“There is nothing more important in my life ~ or in my business ~ than my own personal growth as a human being. Truly, nothing is more important to me than shedding any piece of dysfunction that would hinder me from becoming the fullest representation of Spirit’s great intention for me.

So the next time a situation arises, stop and ask yourself the following question:

If you’re willing to take the congruent action, the truthful answer to this question will always set you free.

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

How does a marital relationship affect our ability to manifest our dreams? How do you know if a marriage that ‘appears' to be OK for all intents and purposes, is actually holding you down? How do you know if this is the right person for you, and that you have an environment to realize your fullest potential?

Answer:

You’re probably not going to like what I’m going to write here, but if you’re asking the question, you already know the answer.

If you find yourself making decisions or stopping yourself for fear of what your spouse or partner will think or say, then you really need to take a close look at that relationship.

And I think it’s important for you to understand that no one can hold you down, unless you allow yourself to be held down.

In a healthy relationship, both partners should have the room and freedom that they need to foster their own growth. You have a responsibility to yourself to pursue your dreams, and if your partner doesn’t agree; they have the option to leave.

As Vernon Howard so eloquently states, “Behave the way you really are, even if it ends a relationship. Never suppress yourself in an effort to influence, hold, or win someone. When we are unreal, so are our rewards. To say this in another way, never behave the way you think the other person wants you to behave, but in the manner you must. Nothing you really need to do or have ever requires a yielding to a person or custom.”

So to answer your question…

Chances are, if you’re wondering if a person is right for you, something has given you the thought that they may not be.

Your marital relationship will only affect your ability to manifest if you’re not true to yourself.

Take a look at how you make decisions.

Do you hold information from your spouse because of how they may react or what they may think?

Do you tip toe around them? Or find yourself constantly needing to defend your beliefs?

Take a good, long and honest look. The answer will be obvious, although it may not be easy.
