But what if my rates exceed their ability to pay?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Eric Johnson. You can find him on the web at http://www.divorceutah.com/

Question:

Hi David,
Assuming it is wrong to charge a man dying of thirst $100 for a glass of water and wrong to deny a starving man food, particularly if I have more than enough, how do I justify selling a service that people of all income levels need, but which most people truly cannot afford at the rates I charge because the rates clearly exceed the average person's ability to pay? I am a divorce attorney.

Answer:

Hi Eric!

I know a lot of coaches and business consultants that struggle with this same concept.

First of all, I don't quite think your comparison makes a whole lot of sense. Charging a dying man $100.00 for a glass of water doesn't really compare with charging attorney's fees.

Here's the deal…it's not your responsibility to save the world. If it were, you'd be the only divorce attorney in the world.

The truth is that you're looking at this all wrong.

The LAW states that if someone has a strong enough desire for something, the money MUST be there. What you're talking about is no different.

And your responsibility is to yourself only (and any dependent children of course).

Here's how I suggest you look at your fees.

Your fees MUST be set on your personal financial goals AND the value of the service that you offer. The value of what you offer must exceed the fees that you're charging.

The people who have the ability or willingness to pay you, WILL. And those that do not will find someone else to help them.

It's a win-win situation. You get to work with the people who you really enjoy working with, and people who aren't willing to pay your fees will pay someone else to work with them.

More life to all.

After looking at your website …

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Kim Peterson. You can find her on the web at http://commonsensehealth.org/

Question:

Hi David,
I am passionate about helping people take their lives to the next level by changing paradigms about Health, Wellness & Success. I have spent the past two years building a following (500 group members, 2,100 + FB fans, & close to 11,000 Twitter followers), credibility and community…what I have not been doing is generating the financial reward I'd hoped. I am still having a challenge with what the actual business model is.
I love to help, generate a buzz and get people pumped but I need help with how that turns into cash. Please help!

Answer:

Hi Kim!

I understand why you're having problems with a business model…you're not clear on your target market.

After looking at your website, it's clear that you're passionate about health and wellness, but it's NOT clear what exactly you do.

Your blog is great. It's full of really helpful information about recipes, health and tips. It seems to me that it speaks to anyone who is interested in improving their health.

However, when I clicked your “How Can We Help” tab, the services you describe speak directly to the fellow health practitioner. You wrote about your passion and ability to help them build their business.

To me, this is really confusing.

Ask yourself, who you most enjoy working with. Do you like helping individuals improve their own health, or do you like helping other wellness professionals build their business?

Once you've made that decision, dig even deeper.

Who is this ideal client EXACTLY? Describe them in as much detail as if they were standing in front of you telling you all about themselves.

Then get very clear on what “symptoms” are showing up in this person's life or business.

This will lead you in creating a program or package that can help them and be of great service to them.

Use biz cards? Shred ’em!

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Anna.

Question:

Hi David,
I find myself obsessing over business card and website design for my local service business, and nothing I produce ever satisfies me. I am at the point where I'd be happier just forgetting about those marketing tools completely. I'd rather approach prospects face-to-face and rely on my personality and positive energy instead. Do you think it's a mistake for me to not have business cards and a website?
Thank you for your time!

Answer:

Hi and thanks for your question!

You know, I NEVER carry business cards and I tell all my students to do the same.

When networking, if someone asks for your card, tell them that you don't carry cards, but you'd be happy to take one of theirs and follow up with them. Take their card and write notes on the back so you can remember the conversation you had.

That way YOU are in control of the follow up.

Last year my website was down for almost a year, and my company GREW!

Actually it was my best year yet.

Most marketers will tell you that you MUST have a website. I disagree.

NOTHING can take the place of a personalized person-to-person approach to sales.

In fact, in this market, it's been the single most IMPORTANT thing my company has done.

Don't get me wrong, a website has a purpose, but if your most pressing need is sales and income, a website is not going to get you closer to that goal. Your ability to reach out to someone, have an effective conversation, and close a sale WILL.

My advice would be to prioritize.

First, bring in the sales through one on one conversations, and when you have the capital, build a website that focuses on collecting opt-ins to build your marketing list.

My spouse’s money-mindset sucks …

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Anna.

Question:

What if you and your husband have very different beliefs around money? I know you can't change people, but it is frustrating because I understand the principles.
I appreciate your response.

Answer:

Money and relationships are pretty tricky, but they don't have to be.

If you and your husband have different beliefs around money, I recommend that you both start taking responsibility for yourselves.

Make your own money, have your own banking accounts, and split the joint bills and expenses.

If you want to save for a trip and he doesn't, go without him, but be prepared for him to do the same.

So many couples struggle with money, especially if one partner makes more than the other. Sometimes it works great and other times it's incredibly disempowering for the person who is not the breadwinner.

If you feel like your decisions are limited by your husband's money mindset, you need to have a heart to heart conversation with him, and let him know that from now on, you'll both be responsible for the bills, but that everything else will go into separate accounts.

This gives him the freedom to do what he wants with his income, and it gives you the freedom as well.

It's against the laws to ask him to change, this way, you'll both have the freedom to believe what you want about money and spend as save as you wish.

My new client changed her mind …

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

Last week's situation – I ‘ask for the sale,' they know treatment sessions will definitely improve the quality of their lives – home life, personal life, professional life – they schedule their appointments – and two or three days later, call in to say “You're not in my budget,” or “I can't justify not paying other bills to pay for care for myself with you.” I've had a run-on of these lately.
What am I supposed to learn here?

Answer:

Fantastic question!

There are two things you can learn from this situation. The first is to be more powerful in your sales conversations.

Let me explain.

The main way people commit to anything is with their wallet. If you're not getting their credit card up front, they really truly haven't made the decision to work with you. It's easy for their ego to convince them they don't need you because they haven't fully made the decision.

So the first thing you need to do, is when you get their verbal commitment, also get their financial commitment in the form of either a deposit on the service or paid in full. Knowing that their money is non-refundable will help them “stick”.

Asking for a deposit will also help you determine if they are really serious about their commitment or if they are just telling you what you want to hear to relieve the pressure of making a decision.

The second thing to consider is after you've received their verbal commitment AND their payment, simply ask them, “What is going to stop you from following through with this or from making yourself a priority?”

This is INCREDIBLY helpful if they call you back and say they've changed their mind, because now you can remind them they predicted this would happen, and you can resell them using THEIR own words.

What are you tolerating?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Pat.

Question:

Why I have attracted bullies into my life?

My earliest memories are of being ‘picked on' by siblings & school mates, having my possessions and artwork ridiculed and even vandalized, ideas and belongings stolen and given or credited to someone else.

I've been bullied by bosses, to the point I had a mental breakdown. I've been bullied by clients… people ‘pull the pin' on a project and refuse to pay or demand a refund after I've invested thousands of dollars in design and development.

I've been forced to take a job I hate, give up my design business. And I have an awful feeling that my new boss is another bully.

Even my spouse bullies me at times, speaking to me as if I were a child, treating me like I am not capable of the simplest things.

I used to be confident, self-assured, brilliantly intelligent, highly skilled, despite all the bullies I tolerated in my youth… but now after almost 50 years, it feels like I just can't take another emotional, financial or spiritual beating. (The only abuse I've been spared is physical.)

What could I possibly have done to ‘ask for it' like this, in every aspect of my life? I hate being a victim, I've always sworn I didn't want to be a victim, and yet, here I am – bankrupt, hopeless and heartbroken.

Answer:

Hi Pat!

The answer to this lies in the fact that at some point in your life, you gave your power away.

Sometimes this happens slowly due to a gradually escalating abusive relationship, and sometimes it happens when we are children and we don't even really realize we had power to begin with.

The beauty of the situation is that this keeps showing up in your life to get you to see that you need to take your power back and STEP into being POWERFUL.

Bullies don't want anything to do with a powerful person, because they can sense the strength at an energetic level.

In order to take your power back, I suggest that you make a list of ALL the things you are tolerating in your life, and then one by one either shift them or eliminate them.

This is non-negotiable! If you're tolerating it, it MUST change.

Being a victim may have served a purpose in your past, but it certainly is not serving you now.

You may also want to do some study to help rebuild your self-esteem. Read The 6 Pillars of Self Esteem by Nathaniel Branden, I think it will really shine some light on what's happening.

OK, now it's up to you…step into your power and then GO KICK SOME ASS!

If they don’t get mad, you ain’t doin’ it right!

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

Quick question: I've been working diligently on overcoming my inner demons and getting past my ego so I can take continuous and decisive actions in my business… it's been a process for sure.

But how do you deal with hate email. I recently received an email from someone “DEMANDING” to be taken off my list. I had no clue she had tried and the system did not work.

My first reaction was that my fear of judgment kicked in and I felt stopped in my tracks! Thankfully I was able to get past it and back on track, but how do you deal with these intense, paralyzing (albeit temporary) fears?

Answer:

Great question!

The only way to “deal” with fear, is to shine a light on it so that you can see that it's a lie.

I know you've heard me say this before, but Spirit does not speak to you through fear, so anytime you feel that fear and hear those fearful voices in your head, you must stop and ask yourself whose voices those are.

Let's go back to TRUTH. (My favorite place)

Fear is simply your ego's way of stopping you from growing. And the fear was given to you by someone else, usually a parent or someone who had a significant role in your life.

The next time you feel fear, try identifying whose voice is talking to you because it will not be God's.

So let's go back to the first question you asked: How do you deal with hate mail?

My answer is that you don't. You must understand that hate mail has everything to do with the person sending it and nothing to do with you.

You aren't responsible for someone else's thoughts, feelings and emotions, you are only responsible for your OWN.

Kudos to you for recognizing that it triggered your fear of judgment. If you focus your attention on why you have a fear of judgment in the first place, and let the hate mail go, the truth will set you free.

To support you in this self-discovery, I recommend that you study The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

Do we have to meditate to manifest?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

Please explain the difference between meditation and manifesting because I am very confused.

Answer:

Hi and thanks for your question!

Many people confuse manifesting with meditation. Meditation is a practice of consciously choosing to center yourself, to quiet your mind and find inner peace.

Manifestation is very different.

You don't need to meditate to manifest.

Manifestation is the continuous process of creation.

We are constantly manifesting everything in our lives at every moment. Whether it's the pen you write with, the water you drink, the tree outside your window or the money you make; you have manifested it all.

Most of the things in your life you manifest without even being consciously aware that you're doing it.

Where manifestation gets confusing is when people try to consciously manifest something. They think they need to say affirmations, meditate or use their will to create.

The truth is, manifestation starts with a simple idea in our brain. It could be a thought, a feeling or a picture. As soon as that enters into our awareness, our brains begin to “tune in”. And we begin to seek the opportunities to bring our idea into form.

It's very similar to how a radio works. As I sit and write this there are thousands of radio waves around my head. I'm not aware of the music or sounds, because my brain lacks the ability to tune into the frequency. However, if I turn my radio on, all of the sudden I can hear the music. The radio didn't create the music, it just simply found the frequency to bring it into form.

Our brains are like the radio. We don't create things out of thin air. We are constantly seeking to become aware of what already exists, so that we can bring our ideas, thoughts or pictures into form.

We then begin to bring our ideas into form by taking action on the opportunities that are presented to us because we are “tuned in” to the frequency of the idea we want to manifest.

I’m just not making any progress…

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from Kris.

Question:

I have been unemployed for the last 6months or so and am trying to redirect my career. I've been doing a lot of soul searching and I come up with great ideas and I start working on them and then, in fear of failure, I find something else. I know I need to focus on one thing but I'm afraid if I spend too much time on the wrong thing, I could fail and have wasted all that time and possibly be out of time and money

Answer:

Hi Kris and thanks for your question.

The key thing to understand here is that it is your FEAR OF FAILURE that is causing you to stop and find something else.

Let me remind you of something really important.

FEAR IS A LIE. And it is not from Spirit.

Fear is not a message to you from Source that's trying to redirect you or help you course correct. It is from your ego.

And your ego has one goal in mind: To stop you from growing.

You see your ego views growth as a huge threat, and it will go to every length possible to keep you “safe”.

Instead of allowing fear to direct your decisions, I recommend using the following four questions:

1) Is this something I want to be do or have?

2) Is being, doing or having this taking me closer to my goal? (You want a yes here)

3) Is being, doing or having this in alignment with Universal Law (more life to all)?

4) Does being, doing or having this violate the rights of others (does it take away someone else's right to choose)?

The determining factor in using these questions is that you must answer yes to the first three questions, and no to the fourth. When experiencing indecision, using the four questions above will help you see clearly which direction to take without letting fear take the reins in your life.

I talk about using the 4-Questions in detail in my latest 30-minute training video. Sign up to receive it, free-of-charge, here: www.ManifestWithDavid.com

Is my manifestor broken?

This week's question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from an individual who wishes to remain anonymous.

Question:

David. My ability to manifest what I want is in the toilet. I've desired, I've believed and I've acted, and yet, I'm still stuck in the same place I was 5 years ago. I'm not talking about spending weeks or months for the manifestation, but many years. There's obviously a lesson to be learned, but I don't know what it is. What am I missing?

Answer:

Ah, yes. I love this question.

First let's all get on the same page. There are a lot of people out there who don't actually know the meaning of manifestation. They think that manifestation is creating something from nothing. They couldn't be further from the truth.

Manifestation is simply becoming aware of what already exists. It's that simple.

Ben Franklin didn't need to create electricity; he just needed to become aware that it already existed.

You are not getting your desired results because you are resisting doing something. Now, I know as soon as you read that, your mind screamed, “But I have done EVERYTHING.”

And your mind would be wrong.

Take a moment and really think. Have you had ideas that you've dismissed, is there something that's been in the back of your mind that you're not doing because it might be uncomfortable?

Really think…

Everywhere in life there are lessons, and those lessons are designed to push us to grow, to become more conscious, to step further into the divine beings that we truly are.

The Universe will not allow you to “skip steps”…

Chances are that you haven't received your desired results because staying exactly where you are is protecting something inside you in some way. This subconscious need to protect yourself is the reason for the resistance.

Here's an example.

Let's say that your desired outcome is $20,000.00 this month. You don't know how to bring in that $20,000.00, but it is money that you really need. The way to reach that goal is already present, you are just not aware of it. (I lovingly call this a BLINDSPOT).

However, if you really listen to your inner thoughts, the answer is apparent. It's just that the answer may force you to face one of your fears like asking for a sale, being seen, investing in yourself, or opening yourself to possible rejection.

And so you dismiss those ideas.

What you resist will persist.

And you will not manifest, or become aware of, what it is that you desire.

It's insidious, but it's the TRUTH.

The timing of your question couldn't be better. Watch for my new gift-video-series later on THIS WEEK, designed to teach you how to manifest with me!! Stay tuned …
